  1. Robin, it's not pretend, how many boats moored on the Broads are fitted with this equipment ?

At the moment only one boat can be seen but wait till a bank holiday and see how many, Brundall will be full of dots.

  2. Baitrunner, the pictures are not live they are photo's that have been taken by what seems to be their staff.

I know that this system has been available for years, but now anybody can download it.

Watch your speed if you have one of these systems, I will be sitting in my armchair watching you, but not if Coronation Street is on!

  3. I have downloaded an app called Marine Traffic, it shows Marine movements all around the world. When tapped on information of the vessel are shown and many have photo's of the vessel.

I would imagine that the vessels info is transmitted when they turn on their navigation equipment?

The part that stood out to me is that it gives the vessel's speed.

At present there is one boat showing within The Broads network and is currently moored at Oulton Broad.

Earlier there was one at Brundall but now gone off.

What if the BA had this app on their patrol boats, it could show some interesting reading to them.

Anybody know any info about this app, I.e. How do they get the photo's.

  4. I remember Herbert Woods had Quiet Light which was all electric, and after one year in the fleet, they changed it back to deisel as it got less than 10 hires in the season (i think?). Although this is a hybrid drive, it does have an awful lot of electrics to drain the batteries, so if you`re watching tv and the batteries go down, does the generator automatically fire up?. Very anti social if you`re watching tv at 22.00 hrs and people with children are going to bed.

I would guess that the drive batteries were a different sort to the auxilary ones and would be on a different circuit.

  5. Quote "There will be a lot of boats for sale when the age limit is 54 to navigate the system,"

Can somebody please enlighten me here, I have no idea what this is all about!

Sorry, my quote was supposed to be light hearted, I was not expecting it to cause another recall of parliament.

  6. I have just had a phone call on behalf of the BA, wanting to do an interview, not a survey.

But the criteria was 18 - 54, I was too old.

There will be a lot of boats for sale when the age limit is 54 to navigate the system, still will cut out a lot of the speeding and unsociable behaviour.

  7. Yesterday we were at Mahon Airport in Menorca, returning home. Along the back of the Airport in a nice row side by side sat The Red Arrows. As we waited they started to move, they passed across the front of the passenger terminal, taxied to the end of the runway and then took off, three groups of 3 then a single one and then it was one or two at the rear?

All the ground staff stopped what they were doing and watched the takeoff.

It felt proud that a British flight in a foreign country had brought an airfield to a standstill.

  8. AS a child our house had one open fire in the front room and the rest of the house was left to find it's own level, scraping ice of the inside of bedroom windows to see outside was common, I believe my boat is warm in comparison.

We were the same as you little sprite, plus the luxury of an outside loo.

Didn't stop there too long reading the paper in the winter.

Fitted, thanks for all your assistance.

    What has it found?

1st trip out the batteries were fully charged, going down the river the monitor was showing a discharge, next morning  monitor showed 80% charge.

Set off expecting to see % charge increase, no still showing discharge.

Moored up for night, checked fitting instructions, all looked ok.

    Next morning 60% charge.

Not being electrical minded, get system checked.

Batteries not charging, main lead from alternator missing!!!

Because this was missing the alternator has not been sending out power to batteries which has damaged it.

    New alternator fitted.

Cable from splitter to front battery not thick enough.

    Splitter wired wrongly.

Luckily unbeknown to me we have been surviving on shore power.

Because of the help from the forum I may be able to relax now. cheersbar  :clap
