  2. Thank you all for your reply's.

I have two 110ah leisure batteries, one 110ah starter battery and one 110ah battery for the Bow Thruster  and Mud Weight electric winch.

When on shore power they are charged on a professional charging system, Sterling I think.

So when I go cruising I know that all batteries should be fully charged, then topped up from the alternator.

Why I asked the original question was, obviously, after mooring for the night the batteries need recharging by running the engine.

I understand that the general rule is 3 - 4 hours engine time to top up the batteries.

Sometimes after mooring overnight we feel like an hours leisurely cruise is as far as we want to go and then moor up for the night again.

My main concern then is how much power is left in the leisure batteries?

Seeing a Battery condition gauge that showed the needle simply showing red, orange and green I thought this was my answer.

But, by the replies you have kindly given I have dug myself a hole.

After reading up about the NASA BM1 suggested by PALADIN I think this could be what I am after.

One of the settings that shows battery level and predicted hours left at that consumption looks great.

At my local chandlers they are £92.99 inc. vat.

  3. WELL!!!!  to me it has just happened.

I have put the computer on this morning and BANG!!! an e-mail from Lotto telling me I have won.

Today I have got to go and help my son dig out an old garage base.

Has he got any tools? NO.(only mine)

So I won't be buying a new boat or a boatyard, I am going to Homebase to spent my £25 on a new shovel. :cry

  4. Kadensa, don't let the worry of practising spoil your holiday.

It sounds as if you have the determination and willpower, so you are halfway there.

Take it slow, and if you do anything wrong you won't cause any damage.

Have a good holiday and let us know how you got on.

  5. (Ours drains overboard and I did indeed do just this before I would venture across Breydon in an adverse sea-state!)

Our drain hole is connected to a plastic pipe, I wonder if this drains out or goes into bilge?

    Will check.

We have a cover, but it does not have windows in it.

  6. Having read John, Hockam Admiral's, recent post in "A few days on Friday Girl" about crossing breydon in bad weather it has raised a thought that has been on my mind.

We have been over Breydon many times, good weather and bad weather.

Our previous boats have all been closed in at the bow.

We now have a Bounty 28 Bathtub with a large open bow well.

What has been my concern is that as seen in John's photo the water is going right over the top of the boat.

In a closed in boat the water runs straight off but with the Bathtub the water goes into the well.

Can the bilge pump clear this water quick enough.

I have seen that Friday Girl only has a small well and a cover that goes over and still leaves the windscreen clear, John did you have the cover on during this crossing?

    Any comments or experiences please.

  7. After coming across Breydon I usually punch against the tide and moor at the top end of the old Marina and wait for the tide to turn.

Also when coming North to South I wait there for the tide.

I know it says "shallow water" but with a Bathtub it's been ok so far, famous last words.
