Marina, you and your crew should invest in one of these each:

Simon, we don't have heating so don't notice the difference ! Seriously though, we have roomy sleeping bags, fleece sleeping bag liners, fleece hats and fleece booties, snug as a bug in a rug! Bit cold going to the privy though! First one up in the morning turns the cooker on, soon warms things up. If it gets really cold then we even close the cabin door . . . . . . . . . .

Any of you hire this one when she was new?

Hi Ian, not me, I'm Oulton Broad based. Surely not a double at Brundall, arghhhhhh!

Pressy list to include thermal everything plus water-bottles and fur-lined, battery powered onesies. I believe that the Bridge at Acle does Christmas day.

There is never 'nowhere to moor', just that you might need to change your plans. Personally I avoid over populated honey-pots like the plague!

Thanks, BB. Quite a few Tremlett's sport cruiser hulls on the Broads, for example, so not unusual. Yes, you are right about trim on what, I suspect, is a semi V hull. A little bit of ballast in the hull might be worth considering although I suspect Barnes would have considered that.

Another welcome! Kathleen.
I see that I have missed the original dates & subsequent events, sorry. Nevertheless I'll leave my comments and hope that you enjoy the Broads as much as I do.
Personally I would go for a Broads cruiser on the Broads.
Handling with one engine is less easy than with two but on the Broads a boathook, a length of rope and a willing, helpful crew soon makes up for that minor shortcoming.
Strowager & I have had many good natured debates on the suitability of sports cruisers on the Broads so I don't intend to extend that one, despite the entertainment value to a some, other than to say that I am undoubtedly right , a Broads boat is best for the Broads!
Sports cruisers, I must admit, can be very smart boats. Twice as many engines to maintain though! Being based at Oulton Broad the sea is on my doorstep so I wouldn't say no but I do know that my wife wouldn't come to sea with me again. Last time was rough and that was her firmly declared last time! Actually I didn't think it was that rough!

Said the actress to the Bishop
And risk having their names splashed over the fronts of the Daily Dreadfuls, not likely!

Agreed - But civil servants generally have little to no knowledge of the private sector and so end up in situations where they're way out of their depth on procurement deals and let themselves get shafted..
Shafted at a cost, often huge, that the tax/council tax/toll payer ends up having to pay.

Always did think of Wayford as a hotbed of iniquity and base goings-on!

Surely, if we have to have it, one span is enough?

There was a recent EDP report stating that Parking Eye had received many hundreds of formal complaints against the scores received in relation to other car park companies.
The Authority, like some others, has shown that they are poor negotiators when dealing with the commercial sector. That yellow post saga was another fine example. Not just a BA thing though, North Norfolk wasn't that sharp over their incinerator negotiations either. Strikes me that local authorities need to wise up to the real world.

No problem with the end result, although I would very sincerely argue that the money could have been better spent. Preserving a pile of scrap iron was, I think, a poor priority. Having done it my number one issue is to ask why on earth did they not raise the blessed thing a foot or two? Doing so would, as a proportion of the cost, surely have been a very small part of the whole. By the way, I too am a sucker for most things relating to railways but the attraction of this one escapes me.
I have heard the river through Yarmouth described as Yarmouth's 'back passage', perhaps the wag that came up with that one was right. It really has been a long term wasted opportunity. For whatever reason Yarmite has traditionally ignored what it has. A riverside walk with a pub either end, a yacht-station/marina proper would be so much nicer than dumped supermarket trolleys and general air of abandonment and muddle that is Yarmouth's back passage. Perhaps best just passed through?
