  1. Apologies if this question has been asked on another thread (the search feature revealed nothing).

I am seriously considering buying a small boat. The initial outlay is not a concern but how much would I be looking at spending in annual fees? I realise this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question so any ball park figures would be appreciated.

Any actual figures from existing boat owners would be even better.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. HA,

I live in Grimsby, my dad went to Wintringham (he was born in 1946). My son plays football at what is now Oasis Academy - Wintringham

    Ron, Hi.

I've lived in Norfolk for 35 years now but I'm coming to my old "home" this morning for the 62nd reunion of the 'Class of 52' of Grimsby Wintringham Grammar School........................

    It's a small world!

  3. A big high five to whoever decided to have a 'like' button on this forum.

Quite often I read a post that makes me smile or laugh but don't necessarily feel the need to add to the thread.

The 'like' button is not only a solution to this but also lets you know if someone has liked something you've written.

  4. Morning all,

What are the water levels like at the minute, particularly in the Wroxham area. We'll be on the water at the end of October and would like to visit Coltishall. Beautiful stretch of river that we've not cruised since 2009. We are on Ibiza which has an air draft of 6ft 10in.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. I also am a member of NBN and NBF, I joined this one as I figured two forums are better than one.

And like Paladin I browse each forum and contribute as and when it suits me.

If people have joined this forum because of issues with NBF (or any other forums) then so be it.

I hope NBF doesn't lose too many members as It's a great forum and provides a lot of people with entertainment and valuable information (as does this one).

Happy reading everyone, whichever forum you visit!!

  6. I remember the handbook well. When it arrived on your doorstep it was the countdown to the beginning of your holiday. My dad used to test us on the rules of the river, it all added to the excitement. The earlier ones included a log book. I've still got these, the oldest being 33 years old! 7. I've hired Bolero next August, mainly because of the competitive price compared with similar craft. We are going to take some fold up chairs for the sun deck (tempting fate with the weather). I believe Brinks Melody has wooden outdoor furniture but as has already been said is a lot dearer!

  8. Nothing particularly spectacular about this except for the river level. We spent 4hrs at The Berney Arms waiting to pass under the Yarmouth bridges, we got turned round on Breydon by the BA. It was October 2009, note the lack of quay!!!

  9. Very interesting this, I can see both sides of the discussion. I personally have never been daunted by GY and Breydon but fully understand it if others are. My advice would be to just cruise right through and avoid mooring. It's the mooring up at places like GY, St Olaves, Berney Arms etc that can be very tricky. I think it's important that newcomers are aware of the potential dangers but we don't want to put people off crossing from north to south or vice versa.

  10. My first time was 1976, the year I was born. My first broads memory was 1981. There were 9 of us on Star Wonder and other family members on Trail Dorchester and Lady Lidell (I probably have those names wrong). I remember the boats being beached at Salhouse and getting hours of fun from swinging on a rope hanging from a tree!

It's the biggest attraction of The Broads for me, the simplicity of it all.
