I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to be out and about and hopefully visit a pub at some point but I'm still very anxious at the same time. I'd be more inclined to visit a pub with pods/greenhouses than one without.

I thought we have been told there is less chance of catching the virus out in the fresh air, why on earth would you want to be cooped up in a greenhouse or pod breathing in stale air ?  expelled air infected or otherwise will stick to the glass as condensation for a period of time, the thought of drinking or worse, eating in such conditions is not for me.

Probably a bit of a specialist thing though

I think you can safely consider yourself a specialist, Ive been following this for months (or is it years ) I am in awe of your skills, the model nearing completion now looks magnificent. Can I ask what you will do with the model when completed ?

  3. Good morning,  I do apologise for giving my opinion and stiring up such passion on here I didn't mean to upset anyone. I also didn't see it as political, I saw it as my opinion on the handling of Corona Virus ( the name in this thread ).

It would be a boring forum if we all agreed wouldn't it ? surely the whole idea of a forum is debate, opinion & banter ?  Anyway I sincerely apologise to anyone offended.

Just for the record I am a lifelong Conservative voter, that doesn't mean I've changed my opinion that they have dealt with this crisis appallingly.

Back in the sixties a schoolmates Dad had a boat at Woodbridge with a Kitchin rudder, now that WAS technical! Two wheels and a twin lever Morse control. Busier than a one armed paper hanger picking up the trot mooring off the Tide Mill!

Anyone who masters Kitchin gear can call himself a helmsman !  had experience of them in the RN  they could turn a grown man into a jibbering wreck !

I think the government is doing as good a job as it can, and I for one am sick to death of people criticizing it's every move.

I have no doubt that I shall be criticized for this post, but to be honest I no longer care!

The highest death toll in Europe still rising, slowest to react to the pandemic, little or no PPE in place, ministers and advisors disregarding their own advice, contradicting and confusing daily press conferences, and that's a good job ?   Its a good job Piers Morgan isn't on this forum !

  6. It can be argued that  "following the science " is why the UK is three weeks behind most countries in terms of recovery. It has been a convenient excuse for this inept governments handling of the pandemic.

You are right Ray in that there are scientists not happy with the easing of lockdown, but I suspect there are many more who have given approval or it would not be happening , as we have been told many many times the government follow scientific advice :default_icon_e_confused:

  7. I absolutely agree that the decisions and choices we make in life effect the quality of life we live, but, ultimately ................

PS I hope you live as long as you want to, and you're in heaven half an hour before the Devil knows you're dead.

  8. This has been a very interesting thread with varied opinions, my opinion for what its worth is that life is mapped out for you from the day you are born, if you have a full fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are wealthier than 75% of the worlds population. we are very lucky to have been given a ticket that has not expired yet, but it will, and when your God says its time, you're going. You can approach your gate latches wearing welders mask and gloves if you want..........

But then the logical discussion becomes, if you own a second home in Cornwall, you can visit for the day, but cannot stay overnight, but those on boats can so why am I expected to drive 3hrs back home from my second home etc. The same goes for caravan owners etc.

The government is doing it's best to legislate for the masses, it cannot take into account every single circumstance. For the vast majority at least it is a welcome relief to be able to visit our boats.

I am not suggesting the government makes a rule for me, I am merely suggesting that at some point "  common sense ' has to come into play.

Its official boating is allowed, (with certain restrictions of course)

    (beaten to it by Tom)

Only for some unfortunately, I live 200 miles from my boat, I could visit, work all day on it, then drive home, tired and a danger to myself and other road users, but apparently this is safer than me stopping overnight on my boat on my own !

I really am quite saddened by some of the attitude we are now seeing, we are all frustrated and want to get back to as near normal as possible and personaly yes get back to my boat but not at the cost of lives or putting things back, a little patience now could save months of further disruption on both personal and economic disruption, its becoming the old story of give an inch and some will take a mile, where we are really in trouble is that it clearly states that all these plans are dependant on common sense something that appears to be sadly lacking.

Be patient or become one. Simples

If you know anyone who has some D1, I would just see what would happen if you tried to put D1 over what you have - it is very very thin and I would be quite surprised if you could not get more to soak in.

The real issue is that D1 is messy to apply in situe and a rubbing strake is relatively small to put it on - it has to be applied wet on wet and unless you are very careful, it will make a mess and probably more than that of your topsides. Worth a go though, its good stuff although after a period of time D2 starts to peel a bit like varnish - I would try D1 and leave it matt as next season it will just require a light rub and another coat and it will be fine!

Why have a shiny surface on a rubbing strake which will require constant renewal year on year!!

I wasn't going to re oil with D1, I thought I could apply D2 over the already oiled wood ?

However if your tanks are clean and you have confidence that they are and you are running with Soltron (Other brands available) - then I'd keep the valve open to keep them balanced and also enable you to top up both tanks with fresh diesel now and again

    Griff

I've used Soltron since you recommended it a few years ago, can't help thinking you have shares in this company ?  confident tanks are clean, fuel filters changed and checked regularly.

Appears to be two schools of thought here, both with merits, the boat came over from France recently with this configuration without issues so for my occasional coast hop and pottering around the broads I think I will leave as is.. Thanks for all opinions, I appreciate.
