For their own sakes I hope that they paint the fascia and modernise the outside, like get rid of that tired 1970's blockwork and the white plastic garden chairs. Good luck to them but it has to look inviting.

I couldn't agree more!!!! It has never looked inviting, or a place I would enjoy my surroundings, even though it's next to the river.

My system is similar to MMs with the exception of a length of rope with a hook on each end which goes between the bog door handle and the first hood iron to take the weight.

I used to commonly see something similar on all the American Sport Cruisers, but not attached to the heads door! :4_joy:

The straps would also let the camper cover convert into a Bimini cover for sun shade.

  3. I keep seeing great reviews of this pub now it’s under new management and had it’s refurbishment. We visited  when they first opened last year,  but weren’t  yet doing food.

It is top of our list to visit next month when we are back on the broads! I wonder if it will knock its sister pub The White Horse from its top spot as our favourite pub on the broads....

  4. No idea either why Robin can’t have keys and collect the boat.

Some vendors do ‘want’ the funds in their account rather than the brokers ‘client account’ before the boat leaves. But this actually isn’t a requirement, as the brokers are his acting as the vendors agents.

So it seems like nothing should prevent Robin being able to take the boat?

If ownership has to be transferred from the previous owner to the broker (whom you paid) and then from the broker to you it could take a few days for the "official" Bill of Sale to materialise. However by today I would expect an invoice and a receipt and be able to collect the boat.

Unless the broker is actually a dealer not a broker, then the Bill of Sale will be from the previous owner straight into robins name.

That's one way of winding them up I guess , personally I would have paid a deposit like most do a bacs transfer is same day anyways and secure for both party's and costs nothing , that said I does strike me as a very unusual way of completion on a deal and I would have expected much more from a broker but on less this dealership has changed hands in the last few yrs then I'm fully aware of who yiu are dealing with having been down that road a long time ago .

Robin has done a transfer though hasn’t he? It still won’t have show or be cleared until a weekday.

The Bill of Sale might take time for the vendor to sign and return, but no idea why the Brokers can’t release the keys, so Robin can move the and forward the title documents on later.

  6. “ Appears to be...” can be a very useful phrase. :default_biggrin:

Brokers should only really comment on cosmetic condition. They can list the information supplied by the vendor of maintenance and serviceing that has been carried out. They do have to be careful of misrepresentation.

A declaration of seaworthyness is not appropriate for a broker. Even if they also happen to be qualified surveyor,  as then they would have a conflict of interests.

Having said that there are reputable and un-reputable  brokers, as in any profession.

The results of that survey showed that a brokers advise is to be well and truly ignored as the boat was not in a seaworthy condition despite the broker being certain it was.

No reputable broker would/should make any statements as to the structural or mechanical condition of a boat. Statements like this could land them in hot water!

Rather they would/ should advise you have a survey/ engine inspection/ sea trial to ensure you are completely happy with the boat pre purchase .

(Or not,  if you are happy with your own capabilities of assessing the condition).

  8. As it was a Saturday the brokers may have needed to wait until Monday morning for the bank/accounts department to confirm they have your funds cleared into their account, before they release the keys and title documents.

    Hopefully all will be fine.

Sorry for no updates. Had my hands full. Proper rough seas earlier, still somewhat of a nuisance now but improved to about yesterday’s level. 5 crew onboard, 1 completely out of it, 2 more were sick earlier but have recovered and now operational again. Auto pilot packed up hours ago so manual helming. Generator not delivering 240v either so no dongle AIS or backup electronics. No chuffin kettle - if I was brave enough

Have been making poor progress due to having to back off. Now up to SOG 9knt+ on the limit for current conditions.

Could not film earlier too rough

When I get home I will sleep for a week - oops - work stops that one

    Griff

Hats off to all onboard Independence!

I was born in Poole myself Bexs although I haven't lived there for over 20 years. I know Weymouth a little bit.

Well done crew. Plymouth to Weymouth in a day is a fair trek I feel. This thread has been very entertaining, thanks for keeping us up to date Griff and all who've done the sea charts thing.

Has this broken the forum record for the most posts on a single thread in a single day?

Dorset and Poole are perfect, apart from them being a 4 hour drive from the Broads!!!

Yes  second that,  well done to all the crew, and good luck for tomorrow’s adventure.
