It looks as if opening has been hit & miss since July. Be aware however that there is a gentleman around to charge you for mooring there.

Alan, do you know  if this individual is  attempting to collect along the length of the total 3 sets of moorings or just outside the cafe area? There were "reports" elsewhere that someone was trying to fleece people  moored at the BA section as well as at  the other section by the wind pump.

  2. The calculation to make is : If you get there and its  full you have to turn and as Robin says its doable, we did  it in Thunder  with 43ft length and a boat moored  across  turning area bank, however it was messy, so ....is it worth the hassle of reversing back instead and hedging your bets. Either way you have to turn, and you can    :-)

I make the cost per unit increase 40%.

what makes me laugh (and I am no different) is that we all spend a great deal of money on boats but begrudge leaving 10p on the metre for the next boat!

As we are all the "next boat" when we plug in and get that remaining 10p ourselves , does it make a lot of difference?  unless of course someone goes around using up the residual 10p and then moving on . But if you have to do that perhaps better not to be boating at all ?

    Day Two (Part 2)

By the time I reached Dilham - which was empty - and turned the boat I did wonder about how one may turn a boat if all the moorings had been taken and I think if coming in the season and was on B.A. I'd turn earlier and back up the last stretch  of river to the Staithe.

:- )   It can be done (Just) we took Thunder up there back in Oct 15 and are nearly 44ft.  Not only were there two boats alongside overlapping the turning point  but they were nose to nose with the mudweights. We had to attach a spare rope to a  stern rope,  gently  bow thrust and then  pull on the rope whilst standing on  one of the other boats. Lift a mudweight , wedge our nose between the boats and  then push round. We  also had another  boat behind  us by then as well which couldn't turn !

Boycee, probably true and for a secure overnight mooring probably fair enough although yours truly won't pay to moor on principle, especially as there is miles of 'wild' mooring either side! I only ever moor to fish, or to walk up to the fishing lakes so hopefully it'll be free during the day, please.

Peter: Do you know if when moored and then  fishing at the lakes,if the bailiff takes money from the lakeside bank or is it pay in advance  pls ?

I posted mine to the BA on Monday.  It will be interesting to see if they come back before our next trip up there on 22nd.

I posted mine  back to the BA in early March and received  the new ones  back on Fri 7th April

  7. Or to make it easier think RRR...    for  keeping the  Red (post)  on the   Right  (Starboard)  when  Returning (To Sea)

So more basic still, RRR if navigating up stream, and the opposite for down stream

  8. Went thru Gt Yarmouth at time  was  supposed to be low and still a fair way to go  down and met a bath tub that had lost control just in Bure mouth coming out towards yellow post . Gave us a fright !

  9. This might assist.

Eric I think you may have used the Norfolk-Broads.org Tide table  to get the Sun set at  19:45 ?

Confusingly this has tide times in BST.... but the  Sun rise/set is shown in GMT, meaning that Sunset is not  until 20:45 for the   purposes we are talking here as we are on BST until  later in Autumn. So Max,  leave a little before the 18:00 you mention and  when you should be  on slackish tide anyway & you then  have three hours until sunset to get there  and with the tide pushing you most of the way. Your next worry of course is if you can  get onto the 24 hour moorings at dusk. You could of course reserve at the yacht Station, but would also need to leave Reedham  a little earlier then as around 3 hours, 30 mins

  10. Yes I noticed the bit about the moorings too and has often been discussed on this forum. So effectively if I understand it        correctly there should be no  real question as to who has the rights to the two sections  and if chargeable,  as each owns part, but  it is the shop which  actually collects all  the fees and with the agreement of the other party and on behalf of both. So no one loses out, and hopefully an incentive to keep things exactly as they are then...  at least for users  mooring purposes.

  11. You're welcome Grace and know what you mean about the mooring. For us it's normally worse as with just the two of us I tend to helm arrival and departure  and Janet is the Bow lady. We approach quietly and hope for no errors...and then i cock up and  the two dogs feel obliged to tell all  by barking  the place down and alert everyone to watch !

  12. Easily the best pub on the South for food, atmosphere, friendliness and staff. Cannot recommend more highly, and a great place to wake up to a Brekkie too if you book the night before. Scores higher than the Bridge at Acle for me by virtue of  the fact that you can also book your mooring  well in advance here if you wish too.

  13. Matt you've achieved  honorary blogger status on behalf of Thunder, and  your week is  sounding  pretty similar  to ours. Hope you didn't  sustain  too many  hits. We got onto Womack Staithe the previous Monday, and during a pleasant afternoon  nap was awoken to a big clunk and the sound of our mud weight being carried away as a hirer  ended up along aside  whilst attempting stern on and then   decided to heavy throttle forward and took the chain. Fortunately there seemed to be no     damage to Geoffs hard work of a couple of weeks previous. Then we took another whack at Gayes Staithe when the       neighbour initially decided he didn't need to use his mud weight despite on going 50km gusts!
