  1. I wouldn't want to look at Broadland Memories in depth on a mobile. With my butterfly website I just have one important page for sightings as a mirror of the PC page. I can't handle the small print. If I want to look at your website with all the pictures and text I want to enjoy it on the big screen, but I am a dinosaur :(

  2. In 1965 we had a holiday on the Shannon, it was ............interesting. Lough Derg was an experience I never wish to repeat. The best bits were above Carrick on Shannon and an area where there were no rocks????

I have some really poor black and white photos....so I can't wait to see more blogs and footage from bgw

  3. Mine arrived the other day, my brother who has been paying for many more years gets his even earlier.  I leave it to the last minute, I would rather keep the money in MY bank account than put it into the BA A/C early! :)

  4. My father was a railway officer and was on the train that took the coffin to the station nearest Bladon. I went up with my mother and waited at Waterloo Station to watch the procession arrive and then saw my father sitting in the back carriage. I feel very proud to have been there and that my father was involved. Whether he was actually involved with the organisation of the train I don't know but he was the divisional manager for part of the route from Waterloo.

I remember waiting for ages in the cold in my school uniform!

  5. The last two pictures from JM, I think were taken on the same day, despite one 'being coloured in' - just that yacht in the background has started to set sail. Same half decker in foreground.........and the reed lighter has just got a bit further.

  6. I am hoping that AdamsGirl might occasionally look in despite being very busy at the moment, as I really do need her help on this one. I have recently found a link to this footage and in the contents is mentioned a Purple Emperor (butterfly). I really want to know whether this is a genuine sighting on the Broads and where it might have been filmed. If anyone knows if this footage is available on line somewhere, please let me know.

  7. Many of the coasters in the 60s were Everard ships with the ending 'ity'. I can remember hearing coasters coming along the Yare in the distance so if at Brundall Dyke or Rockland Dyke, Langley or Hardley, the next thing you knew was the water sucking out of the dyke and then when possible I would run to the end of the dyke to watch the coaster go past - pure magic, what a memory! Have some photos which I need to find

  8. Water level was much lower then :)

Unless there was no other option, you jumped from midships where the deck was lower - anyway that was what you did on WR - a sister ship is in background of Griff's photo.

I was 16 months old for my first trip, on an Admiral from Brooms, followed by another Admiral, Challenger ?34 (Trumans), Checkmate (Collins at Oulton) then three Ripplecraft when we went from spring weather to summer weather, followed by a Broadland Teal which father considered buying, Valentina in November from Neatishead as it was one of the only boats available in November in 1965, the WR (Delight VII) was bought.................. (Father tried the Fens out twice and the Shannon once)
