  1. Unfortunately there are none of the original fittings inside as the previous owner stripped it all out and refitted it with a new kitchen and 'open plan' everything else lol. I was thinking of sanding back the paintwork on each side of the bow to see if any ident numbers come shining through, would they tie up with any records held anywhere does anyone know??? Tony.
  2. Thanks one and all. I've managed to un-plumb the calorifier and link the two ends together as described above with little or no issue at all. Topped up with anti freeze and ready to go again. Started to take the other pipe work off the copper tank now and shortly remove it etc. No issues with battery compartment as that's under the rear step and on the other side of the boat to the tank, but thanks guys/girls, any advice is helpful when you've not tackled anything like this before. Many Thanks again, Tony.
  3. I have a Wilds Bermuda 34 but over the years it has had a few alterations and identity changes etc etc. Does anyone know where there may be any identification markings on the boat or engine and how I would go about tracing the history of the boat? It would be great to make contact with anyone who had previously owned the boat or even rented her and see any old photos they may have when it was in its prime! Cheers, Tony.
  4. Lol, yep tomorrow is a full on action day with pipework and tank removal and if all goes well, maybe refitting some new pipes to replace the 1970's ones
  5. Thanks Guys, wasn't expecting a response quite as quickly as that, but mega appreciate the help. Guess what I will be doing tomorrow?? lol. Tony.
  6. Guys/Girls a question for you. I have a Frank Wild Bermuda 34 and am currently carrying out some modernisation to the internal fittings. I want/have to remove the copper hot water tank (calorifier) from the port side rear quarter due to a bad leak and will be fitting a truma gas/electric water heating system. My question is..... by disconnecting the copper cylinder and fitting a 'bypass' hose on the engine coolant outlet, WILL THIS CAUSE THE ENGINE (Perkins 4108) TO OVERHEAT DURING CRUISING due to the reduction in coolant water? Any help here would be much appreciated, Tony.
  7. Hello Guys/Girls and hope you are all well. Ive finally moved on to my Bermuda 34 boat and all is well EXCEPT some of the cleats appear to have pulled out of the deck and look as if they have had some attention from Mr Bodgit and his mate, Mr Leggit. At this time they are holding the moorings ok but im worried that they will eventually pull through altogether and cast the boat free! Can anyone give me a clue as to what the cleats are screwed into (im assuming its not just the fiberglass) and how would I repair or replace these fixings as there appears to be very little access to the underneath. Any help would be much appreciated Guys/Girls. , Tony.
  8. Thanks Alan. I took a load of photos today but then left my bloody phone on my boat, so i'll give it a go tomorrow when I'm a bit more awake ;-) lol. Tony.
  9. Just a little update re my Bermuda 34 called DEFENDER 2. Ive been decorating the kitchen and forward cabin/lounge area. I decided to take the sea toilet out and replace it with a chemical type toilet as the Marina im at has facilities for this type. Ive bought some furniture for the boat and also made some steel wall mounting brackets so I can fit a block of three cupboards above my bed and mounted to the rear wall above the engine cover. This has made so much storage space in my bedroom and ive got loads of room for all my stuff when I move aboard next month. Today ive fitted a car roof storage box on the roof at the rear above my bedroom. I will use this for dry coal and wood storage and it will free up room inside the boat. Ive taken a few photos and will upload them when ive worked out how to do it, lol.
  10. Yes Maurice you are correct, the boat will be on the River Crouch near Maldon Essex and if I understand it correctly I can 'legally' empty the loo into the sea??? It still has its original tank type toilet at the moment which pumps into a storage tank on the side of the boat, the only problem is that there are no nearby 'pump out' facilities at local marinas. I'm more than happy to fit a chemical toilet if required to but I will be living on the boat and therefore it would be easier to use and maintain a sea toilet. Am I right in thinking that a sea toilet vents everything out the side of the boat or through a vent in the bottom?!? If this is the case, would I have to drill holes in my hull to fit an outlet pipe or will there be one there already? Any help would be appreciated Guys, Thanks, Tony.
  11. Hello one and all and hope there are a few others out there with this model from Frank Wild???? Im a new member and have just purchased the Bermuda34 called DEFENDER2. I would be very interested in talking to anyone who has one of these and can give me an incite into life aboard. I take delivery on Monday 17th November 2014 and will be moving aboard in March 2015 when it will become my new home. Has anyone ever adapted the toilet to pump into the river rather than the holding tank as I would be interested in knowing how to do this. Should I remove interior panelling and fit insulation as the only source of heating at the moment is a wood burner but im also looking at other heating methods. Any help or advice would be fantastic. I am an ex-mechanic and fabricator with all my own tools and can turn my hand to most things and not easily phased by hard work etc. in advance Guys/Girls, Tony

Hello fellow newby, im an Essex Boy through and through living near to Maldon Essex on my boat moored on the River Crouch. Have fun Dude and enjoy. Tony :
  13. Hey, so its true then, trade in all my tee shirts for thick wooly jumpers and thermal pants, lol, Hmm cant wait for that ;-) lol. Tony.
  14. Well thanks again one and all. Im so glad that there are people out there to help this nautical novice, lol. I will probably stick with the emersion heater idea for when im on the mooring and rely on the engine water heater when im cruising as im told that they will provide a tank of hot water for showers etc if used daily! QUESTION FOR YOU..........??????? Im thinking of changing the calorifior as its probably the original one that was fitted in the 70's. Does anyone have an idea of a sensible size tank to replace it with as im sure I wont need the large one that was originally fitted when built? There will be only me on the boat most of the time with an occasional guest as and when etc etc. How many litres capacity do you think guys/girls? , Tony.
