  1. I always stopped off there when South , enjoyed a swim ( being the athlete that I am 😆) Was great to have a long hot shower and work off some off the holiday indulgences. Then reward myself with a coup!e of beers . Had an exceptionally good night fishing one year there also . Some proper specimens in abundance, it lasted a good couple of hours .

Going back years , there was a great wee family room as well .

The old rough and ready pubs of the broads were part of its charm . Good honest people in them , playing pool , darts, dominoes and the like . Chicken in a basket or a steak pie 😋

I don't take well to change , it's certainly not always for the better .😓

  2. My point , a few posts ago , was really driven by a certain type of folk , who tend to run about in transits . I’m aware we’ve got to watch what we say on here, but of course I’m not talking about your average joe who owns a transit type van ( I have owned a few ) . But we all probably know what/whom I mean.
These people have no fear of the law, they are almost untouchable. My point was, Singapore authorities wouldn’t care who they are, or what card they played, the perpetrators would have felt the full force of the law, and trust me, it is a deterrent, it quite simply works.

My young lad was there for 8 months , he never seen a mugging , a drunken brawl or seen anyone taking or god forbid selling illegal substances.

I left Singapore convinced , their way was the way forward . The people are happy, hard working and respectful. Nothing comes to mind which isn’t legal there , that isnt here ( in regard to lifestyle choices, socialising etc) . The people certainly are not oppressed.  There really only is one rule, , “follow the rules , and you will be fine 😛”

Im blethering on a bit here 😆, my point is , as a country we need to learn again , we don’t know it all , we think we do , but that was a long time ago , and we could do with looking at other models in regard to how we deal with crime.

Punishment has nothing to do with crime reduction, take America, which has some truly incredible jail terms of many years, that for crimes over here you'd get 12 months for and be released on licence half way through.  America has one of the worlds highest prison populations, and crime is as rife as ever.  What Asia has is a culture of respect for others and pride - not to forget the sheer shame it would cause a person and their family for being arrested. Our problem is complex and I believe begins with lack of eduction and respect for others, then spirals from there.

I agree , that education and respect are key in changing attitudes and behaviours. But whatever Singapore are doing , and the threat of long sentences doing hard Labour is very real , they are doing it better than this part of world.

America , is a some what strange comparison , as this is a country which allows you to  purchase automatic rifles , but you will struggle to buy steel tipped darts , as they are deemed too dangerous . 😅😅😅😅😅

  4. 3 men in a white transit 🤔.

There is a certain section of our society who sadly don't contribute anything to the well being of our nation.

If only we could tell who they were 🤔. It's such a mystery 😐.

I was in Singapore last year . There are signs about telling you anyone caught stealing will get 5 years  ( in a not very nice establishment)

Strangely enough , There is very little crime in the country .

    Weird eh ? 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

I remember last year in that dreadful heat how uncomfortable it was. If you get cold you can put extra layers on or cuddle up under a duvet but in that heat you just can't get out of it especially at night which makes it difficult to sleep too. Much prefer the colder months and Spring can be lovely

    You cheeky beggar :default_biggrin:

Now come on Neil, we all know you don't have polar bears up in wee bonnie Scotland, it's grizzly bears and you well know it :default_eusa_naughty:

A few years ago now when we went to Scotland my youngest was terrified the grizzlies might get him. I had to gently explain there were none where we were going only the Loch Ness monster. That didn't seem to help much :default_biggrin: x

Unfortunately, the grizzlies are in decline up here in Bonnie Scotland . The haggis are eating their young .

On the "Wee Scotland " dig 😍, here is a lovely wee fact for you too digest with your cucumber sandwiches 😋

There is more water in Nessies pond , than there is in all the combined lakes of England and Wales . And it's not  even our largest or deepest loch .

Everyday is a school day 😘

It’s becoming a bit of a habit for Scotland to have better weather than us southerners in May. It’s happened every year since my son bought a house up there a few years ago.

Yes , Scotland has two seasons , May and winter 😂😂😂😂

you take two steps forward and then ten back, took me ages to get home :default_biggrin: x

Sounds like a normal Saturday night out for you 😘😄

I think the weather folk have got their maps muddled up just now .  It's almost tropical here in Bonnie Scotland the last coup!e of days .

Very strange . The polar bears up here are not happy 🤗

  8. I'm meeting a few long standing friends , going for a beer or two , then going to to the Hibs game . I then have a nice night planned with my good lady and another couple whom we have been friends with for a long time . A night in with  good food , drinks and laughs .

It's really just another Saturday for me .

I hope everyone has lovely day.

Oh Neil, how many times have you walked along the bank and someone is cooking bacon on their boat, that is just the best smell, even if you're full it makes you feel hungry :default_biggrin: I love the sound of the rain on a boat roof, I even like the sound of bow slap. A  boating holiday is what you make it at the end of the day, posh or budget, you're afloat on the Broads and that's what matters x (I'm still hiring though :default_biggrin:)

Yeah , sounds are unique on the broads also.

I've always been convinced every boat must come with a hidden wood pigeon 😁. Every where you moor , you can guarantee to hear one cooing away 😘. Can't always see him , but always hear him 😅😅.

Or is that just me daft again 😄?.

The way the diesel fumes react with the water 💚,  even the chemical toilet is comforting 🤗. My brain knows where I am when my senses pick up the signs 😍

Richardson's market their boats as Platinum or Classic I believe. Well I'm the riff raff classic hirer in a beaten up old bath tub and proud :default_biggrin: I wouldn't want to spend three grand for a week on a floating apartment much preferring two weeks on an old tub

I remember having just the best holidays on an old boat like the Major Gem's and the bath tubs, I'm sure there are some hirers on here that remember the good old holidays to be had on the likes of these boats and how much fun it is slumming it without the mod cons of home  x

I agree . My sister's are forever asking me about all sorts of boats regarding what they have on board etc. My answer is always the same

" as long as it's clean, the cooker works , the toilets and showers function and it's floats then happy days. At the end of the day you are on the broads , that's the important thing"

Also I'm not sure it's equivalent to camping , when asked by others who have never been what it's like , I often refer it to be a floating caravan.

Ahh, I can smell the bacon and coffee as I dream 😊. It's funny how  everyday things have a unique smell on the broads. Even the rain smells good 😇

Sadly, HS2 has gone too far to be stopped.  Thousands of acres of land have been turned over to develop a railway to speed the journey between London and Birmingham by a few minutes.  Maybe, a few years ago, this could have been something for the country to be proud of, but based on current estimates, it won’t be finished into its terminus in central London until 2041.  When many other countries already have high speed railways, once again were a bit late to the party.

There are so many better ways that in excess of 100 billion pounds could have been spent to benefit a much larger proportion of the population, it really does grind my gears.

I would love to comment further on the matter and give my views , but I suspect that would contravene the tos on here , so better not .

Needless to say , I agree it is a very expensive vanity project.

Isn’t it amazing that multiple billions of pounds have been spent on building ‘smart’ motorways, that most sensible people could see was a flawed idea in the first place.  Far too many billions of pounds have been found to build a massive vanity project, that most of us live too far from to gain any benefit from, in the form of HS2, yet preserving our coastline and saving the homes of folk living in coastal villages, is deemed not worth the cost.

Head a off banging brick your wall .

're-arrange these words to reveal an apt saying 😋. It may also help with the frustration. 😉

  13. The boat - which is 5.1m wide, 21.5m long and weighs 44,000kg - will be escorted by police on Monday, April 24, at 9am.

Surely 2am would be a more sensible time for all concerned?

What a sad story. The verdict feels right to me from the understanding of the facts. Having hired a boat with an identical stern from Ferry Marina last year, I think the design has flaws from a safety perspective but I still feel no-one is to blame for what happened. Ferry have indeed now added lights to show which helm has control but nobody can say if that would have made a difference. Nothing in life is risk-free and every so often there are reminders like this.

Your last sentence is bang on the money . Nothing is risk free ,.and if we spent too much time thinking about things , we wouldn't leave the house .

Wrong place.,.Wrong time is not a fact of law , but it is is in life . Sadly .

If it makes a few folk on here take  bit more care , then at least something has come from this tragedy.

  15. I love my football.

But how a club can spend near on £600 million  on p!ayers in a season is obscene. Not to mention what the wage bill must be .

The EPL is certainly not the game of the working man anymore . That has long sailed . It's quite sad actually.
