  1. Stayed there earlier this year in a balcony room and was really very nice for the money. There is a very good Thai restaurant straight opposite, and the bar in the hotel is very comfortable. Breakfast is very good, they make to order so nice & fresh, all in all was a very pleasant stay!

That's fine if your in an area that you can get a signal , me if a list was available I'd print it then there's no need for Internet signal as there are still a lot of areas where that's difficult if not impossible , I do agree that the operator will give you details if required and yiu do need the code to remove the machine but that can be accessed at the machine too .

You'll struggle not to get 999 signal anywhere in the U.K. Just because you can't get the rough to auntie Mavis on your standard signal doesn't mean you won't get through to 999. (Please don't try, but trust me)

Just out of curiosity, how did the other independent organisations start?  to my thoughts, probably in much the same way as this organisation has? by some hard effort on the parts of the volunteers, and just being available.

Can't speak for others but Hemsby was founded over 40 years ago due to a massive increase in deaths at sea in the local area.

Their Broads rescue lifeboat was started on request of HM Coastguard.

From the new kids on the block themselves:

BRW have contacted me (Sue Hines) to say that those involved currently have such qualifications as qualified RYA helms, search technicians, police search techs, swift water rescue and first flood response, emergency response drivers and some are trainers themselves. Broads Beat, BA and Norfolk Fire Rescue are looking at doing some joint training with BRW and its boat so they can use it in an emergency.

A great pity that their initial press release was such a disaster!

BB, BA & NFRS already have their own boats.

The real question to ask is if this is a service the emergency services need or want.

  5. Il refrain from commenting on BRW / BSAR...

What I will add is that SAR operations on the Norfolk Broads (National Park :15_yum:) have been relinquished from the Police to HM Coastguard. HMCG are highly trained, very well equipped and have vast knowledge of the Broads. They also have at their disposal the 3 emergency services, SAR helicopters and of course declared lifeboats (2 of which cover the Broads).

Declared lifeboats (both RNLI and independents) are are audited by HMCG - everything from training schedules & qualifications to maintenance, suitability of equipment, and from risk assessments to SOPs. Then there's the rescue boat code - a 100+ page document covering the requirements of a rescue boat & its crew...

Operating a lifeboat takes literally thousands of man hours & costs thousands of every year (not including the brownie points you have to earn from the wife!).

I was tempted to take a photograph of the bar staff but the pain in your feet showed in your faces! Not drinking, surely not.

(Actually the lighting under the awning was crap so no snap!)

Great day, congratulations to all of the team, hope that you made loads of dosh.

Yeah they always put us ugly ones out of sight in the pooy lit tents :216_pig: luckily for us that means testing the beer when we change the barrels over :1311_thumbsup_tone2:

It was a great day, we were out on a call-out until 2am both Saturday and sunday morning, not to mention 2 call-outs during the day on Friday, so the crew was already nackered before we even started!

Despite that we made about 30% more than we ever have during the Herring Festival thanks to the public (and in part the beautiful weather we had yesterday!!)

It would appear from the article that 5 were. Taken off to transport ,but the remaining crew stayed to continue their holiday ,possibly visitors on board .but as said earlier would there have been enough lifejackets ? Glad it all ended well..Is there restrictions by the hire companies on the number of guests you can have aboard ?

Some were taken off to safety as they were either fairly old or very young.

they didnt, and they were paid more than evans

They're not employed for the BBC, he seems not on the list. Any they were worth it, it was the most popular TV series on the planet sold globally...

  9. It isn't also worth noting that being paid £2million per year will mean he pays near as makes no difference £1million in tax per year, which is more than most of us pay in our lifetime. He pays it a year.

And due to his popularity, the revenue gained from selling advertising space on his very popular show would easily see to the other million.

  10. How come a boat owner & forum user gets caught with firearms & wasting police time (among other things) and it gets swept under the carpet but a bloke on his stag party gets his bum out & everyone loses their minds?!

Back to the serious, this article in our local EDP makes interesting reading although not related to the Broads:

    http://www.edp24.co.uk/business/center-parcs-elveden-resort-targets-20m-investment-to-attract-3g-families-and-other-new-holidaymakers-1-5107164

Perhaps Center-Parcs has got it right. Mind you, the Broads infrastructure needs attention. Pubs with broken garden furniture, for example, should have no place on the Broads.

The day centre parks puts itself into the Pontins/Butlins price bracket is the say I stop going there - they're usually fully booked so no need for change!

But Wroxham Broad is a lot slower by road than Horning.

And Horning Yacht Club / The Swan make us bacon sarnies when they're open :1310_thumbsup_tone1: Wroxham yacht club are a bit tight on that front!

  13. It's quicker for us to launch at Horning (yacht club) than to drive the extra 10/15 minutes to Wroxham.

Granted we spend longer in the water but this is minimal and a lot less time that we would lose in the vehicle heading to Wroxham...
