  2. clearly this is a topic open to debate, i suppose as Robin says, a matter of whether or not proof is available , to point fingers and say " you , were negligent " if you hire a boat and it states in your " skippers manual " that you must use the bridge pilot  at such and such place " then it's clear that by not doing so you are in breach of an agreement or even a contract ( ?) which would make you liable for any damage caused by negligence or just plain stupidity , that's not even considering the impact it could have if somebody on board was seriously injured or even killed . when in doubt use that new superpower , " common sense .

    cheers

  3. a new week and a new recipe , this one is dead easy , and although it say " with Brie " there is nothing to stop you from using Camembert , enough rattling so here we go ,

what you need for two , 2 medium dressed Cromer crabs

1 red onion sliced ( so that you get " half moons " )

handful of coriander leaves torn  or flat leaf parsley if you cant get coriander.

    butter

double cream (get a small pot ) and use about half to 3/4

    Brie or Camembert

small glass of white wine , ( i prefer to use a medium dry )

1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper .

    HOW TO DO IT .

melt a good knob of butter over a low heat and add the sliced onion cook gentle until just soft then add the coriander, wine ,and cream. heat very gently then add all of the meat from the 2 Crabs , ( keep the shells ) heat until the mixture just starts to bubble , ( you don't want it to burn )  take of the heat , leave for a couple of minutes while you wash out the crab shells and have a glass of winecheers ,    make 2 doughnut shapes out of tin foil and place them on a baking sheet , put the crab shells on these then carefully split the meat mixture between the two shells , turn on you over at about 100* c , , put a centre slice of your cheese on the top of your crabs , and place in the oven , for about 5 minutes , just long enough to melt the cheese but not long enough to toast it , serve with  green salad and crusty bread , Bon Apetit , this doesn't take long to make at all if you are having more than 2 people just add another crab a bit more wine and a bit more cream .  wonderful food for a summers day , can be enjoyed with a host of different white wines .

  4. seems to be the best thing is to avoid Granary Staithe unless you want to pay then , sad really , , never mind , we'll go under the bridge ( using the pilot ) and moor up the other side . thanks for the info RanworthBreeze cheers

  5. we have heard recently that there are some rumblings about the moorings at Granary staithe , and that the Hotel Wroxham is charging  for these moorings , can anybody shed some light on this please cheers

  6. here in Peterborough it's another beautiful day , the sun is shining ( thanks for sending it back Broadscot ) but on the Wroxham bridge webcam it looks decidedly over cast , would you like me to send the sun to you ? cheers

  8. i'll be posting photos on our return home , mostly because we , my Wife and i feel that a holiday on the Broads is exactly that , no T.v. no internet , only taking the phone in case of emergencies , hadn't taken " wind-burn into consideration , thanks for the heads up on that JennyMorgan .cheers

  10. we are taking a 44 ft x 11 foot boat out in October according to calculations made with the info i have been able to get from this forum i shouuld be able to get her through Wroxham , obviously because she is a hire vessel the pilot will have that responsibility and indeed the final say,  the issue i have is not necessarily going Wroxham to Coltishall more the other way , as i'm led to believe if it is miserable weather it can alter the depth of water under the bridge, so the question i am asking myself is " do i go through and not get back or do i not go through and then kick myself  for not going when i could have got back ". October is a long way off but the end of May approaches and we'll be there for a week .:party:

like most people on here I love boats of all shapes and sizes and love to look at and watch them but would never dream of going onboard.

I've been invited on board on a number of occasions and have invited people on board our boats to have a look.

I remember back in the 80’s when it got really busy and having to double moor, we always asked before mooring and usually ended up having a real good chat.

some people just begger belief........ As for the penknife, I see that as criminal damage.

i would have been incandescent , there would have been usage of those special " short " words , and then a phone call made :River Police

I don't know about others but I'm only to happy to show people around my boat IF they ask, I put a lot of time, effort and usualy money into getting my boats just how I want them, so I'm proud to show my work off and it's really nice when someone says, I never thought of doing that or ask me how I did something so they can do it on their boat, but start noseing around my boat without asking is a big no no, for me my boat is an extension of my home and God help anyone I catch peeping through the windows of my house,,

    Frank,,,

i feel exactly that same , to ask is one thing ,to help yourself is totally different .

  16. when my wife and i first came to the Norfolk broads last May, we moored up at Sutton 24 hr moorings for the last night , with plans to go and have a meal and a drink at the Hotel , so off we toddled , went to get a drink from the garage at Stalham green , popped into the Hotel for a pint ( thirsty work walking ) got back to our boat only to find it had been moved about 50 ft down the moorings so that another yacht from a certain sailing club could get in closer to his friends, now earlier on  an individual had asked us very politely i might add, if we minded moving down a little way so that a rather beautiful wooden sailie could get in , we didn't have a problem and moved down , now it's one thing to ask a body if they would mind , but to do so when there is no one aboard is just not on , as we were on a hire boat , if anything had happened to it , the responsibility for any damage would have been ours . i reported the incident when i got back to the boatyard , the young lady i spoke to was  rather irritated and called the president of said yacht club , and told him in no uncertain terms that they must not move boats that are moored up and unattended .

  17. Thankyou deebee29 , a lot of people have asked " why no salt " ? there is lots of salt in the pesto and parma ham so it doesn't need it , however a little pepper after it's on your plate goes well, it's one of my wifes' favourites .i'm glad there is this " share your recipes " section i have lots  of my own recipes cheers

  18. i'm generally a rather nosey individual ,but i wouldn't go clambering about the decks of another boat without permission , goodness me no , that is akin to trespass as far as i'm concerned and if i was stupid enough to do so and got  a mouthful of expletives, or a poke in the eye with a sharpened pencil  i think it would be completely warranted . i think that to give a passing vessel an admiring look , and say , " fabulous boat you've got there mate " is sufficiently nosey . cheers
