  1. That's very interesting. I had a discussion in the office about this the other day as a coleague was complaining about people at Granary Staithe always feeding the birds bread (we watch via webcam at work). I took the view that me and everyone I knew fed water birds bread as kids and there were never any dead or sick birds littering the place, and they must get loaves of the stuff at Wroxham and they all seem less than dead there was probably enough evidence to at least say it wasn't bad for the birds.

To be honest I've been boating on The Broads in total for 17 years and never been untied, or heard of any neighbours being untied. You hear through forums that it does happen and it is that, that has made me take precautions in certain places, but then you only hear of the few per year that may get untied and you have to compare that to the hundreds of thousands of boats moored per year that are never interfered with. I guess sensible precautions in certain places are not to be discouraged, but it is so unlikely to happen, not worth loosing sleep over.

Yes my sentiments extactly. I felt aggrieved at the time but it was such a lovely holdiay it was soon forgotten. Had the mud weight been down we wouldn't have moved. Live and learn.

  3. Happened to me my 1st time on the broads 1 May Bank holiday weekend in 2016 at Gayes Staithe. Us and another boat untied we noticed and chucked the mud weight over. The others realised at breakfast when they wanted to to get some water.  Almost put me off - but was a blip I hope.

Interesting to see how its done, one tug controls the bow and provides the propulsion, the other controls the stern and provides the 'brakes'

There is something about tug boats, love em

TY. I was about to ask how the that set up works!

  6. I'm certainly good for nothing however it's never really been good for me - which is a shame because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know. And if one looks throughout the history of this forum and other free forums, it is the latter category that tend to be the difficult ones.

I think I've strayed off topic!!

  7. Just caught up with this thread. What an effing nightmare. You're luck can't run bad for ever. You probs need weekend afloat with no maintenance, just you Macie Dog and a fishing rod to reset the balance.

We've only used Richo's in the last 10 years and 2 visits a year. Loyalty works for me were on a RC45 so it's £300 wedge of the cost for us.

Yard staff seem to remember you and call over. Booking office on the phone well it could be Norfolk but had better chats with PPi cold callers sometimes it feels like you've rung during loose women with one of them.

Never had a problem with reception till May when I turned up 30 mins early, I was walking round and it was empty so went in to be told it's 1230 (i think) fair play so went to Tesco in and out and back and parked at the boat. Walked round and was there 8 mins early as women waiting next to us said another party got the blue boat book so we went. It was a stand off me and her in the reception and 3 staff stood looking at us and the clock to 1230 lol. John on Reception can have a laugh.

I'll report back in September after they read this and I'll be last out of the yard lol.

Already pick the boats for next year with another change of boat.

I've only ever hired from Rickos my self - I've never not seen someone in there kicking off about one thing or another unnecessarily. The staff seem to have unlimited patience in my estimation. I love getting that blue book!
