Pub for food every time available, boat cooker is for breakfast bacon sarnies only, oven is a good temperature stable place to store the bread.

Any other option is the work of satan or a vegetarian and both should be banished.....

You forgot to mention the beer!

I agree, oven is for breakfast, pubs are there for everything else!

As for vegetarians, I married one 35 years ago today, (never a cross word  :default_wink:) she still cooks bacon sausages etc for me!

  2. We booked a mooring at The New Inn late June, the guy organising the moorings was very efficient, he was also looking after the big screen in their garden (maybe brought in for the football) had tennis showing at the time which pleased Mandy

Food was ok, cant remember it being poor or outstanding, service was very good and was dog friendly

Only thing that was off putting was the young lad who brought our bill said 'there's 12.5% optional service charge on there, we can take it off, but it does go to the staff'

Very difficult to then say take it off, especially when the service was very good!

  3. I’m no expert by any means but looking the tables you’ve provided I’d go over at slack on the Wednesday and come back by Monday, low water if necessary you’d still have nearly 3 hours to get to Stracey Arms

We did low water in a high boat that wasn’t particularly powerful 80% throttle gave me 3mph soon rising to 4 then 5!

I did use a bit more fuel than ‘doing it right’ my concern was bridge height not water flow!

As has been said a lot will depend on the conditions at the time, but most boats can cope with the flow at this time

Best to check with the YS nearer the time

i hope I’ve read those tables right!  😉

  4. I can’t speak for October as never been that late, we came through in June dead on LW due to the height of the boat bit of a struggle at first but carried on at 4 mph not at full throttle as don’t like doing that, probably cost me another fiver in fuel but hey, you do what you have to do, and a fiver ain’t a lot when spend what I do in the pubs! 😉

With that airdraft you’ll be fine but you’ll need a few more revs!

    You could stop at Yarmouth?

Is the YS open in October?

  5. I make no excuses to say I love The Ferry at Surlingham

Lovely people bookable moorings great food and beer, very dog friendly and on a sunny day what is better than sitting in their garden pint in hand watching the boats go by, I love it!

Always make it first stop when I collect the boat from Loddon irrespective of which direction I’m going in the morning

Enjoying your tale during my enforced imprisonment!  😉

    thanks

  6. Freedom day became locked up day for me, last day before so called freedom day was a trip to the testing station!

I’d like to comment of the situation in my area but all I’ve seen is 4 walls and a garden

But when I’m allowed out I shall continue to take the old precautions until I see infections fall dramatically, and even I may continue

  7. I’m a fan of the small independent boatyards, we’ve being using Pacific for a while but before we ‘found’ Pacific we used Bridgecraft with Tower Bridge

They are an excellent yard with friendly helpful service and would certainly use them again

Im interested in your trip to The Wherry, did you take Rollie?

We went there for lunch on the way to Beccles a few weeks ago, we were met by a guy on reception who said looking at Lottie, ‘he may be very pretty but he can’t come in here, but you can go round and use the patio’

    He?

She was wearing a bright pink collar!

Anyway, patio was good and that’s always my preferred option providing the weather is decent

But I always thought The Wherry was dog friendly has it changed recently?

Anyway enjoy the holiday after 2 years you deserve it

Thought I was unlucky. Hope  you feel better soon, and some better luck!

It’s probably fair on the rest of the boating community that you and me shouldn’t be on the same piece of water at the same time!  😉

Thanks for your kind wishes, but your issues recently totally trump me!

I wish you too better luck in the future

Well, they say trouble comes in threes. You are clearly over the normal limit! Seriously though, hope the rest of 2021 is better for you.

Throughout my life in corporate management I’ve had many a b*locking for being both over and under budget!

Being outside the ‘norm’ is no stranger to a bit of a maverick like me!  🤣

  10. We lost our dog for two nights back in February, she ran away from the dog minder we used to send her to to get her more socialised with people, kept getting reports of sightings but she’s so nervous she kept running away

We got her back after we had a call from someone who witnessed her being hit by a car

I went out fearing the worst, luckily after wandering around she came running to me seemingly unhurt!

Trip to the vet for X-rays blood tests etc we got her back minus 4 teeth but otherwise unhurt, vets bill £850, but I’d have paid 10 fold plus that to have her back

in May my car was broken into on my drive, the thieves helping themselves to the steering wheel media centre and half the dashboard

So a 5 year old Merc I’d had nearly from new was written off

Whilst on the boards the dog hurst her leg so a trip to emergency vet and another £220

On Saturday morning a girl from my office was tested positive for Covid by Saturday afternoon I was feeling rough by Sunday I had it all!

So trip to testing station, get the test, results in this morning and I’m positive but feeling better than yesterday, hopefully the jabs worked

just got to deal with the boredom I’m not one to sit around and do nothing

I thought 2020, was bad, this year is a nightmare

Hopefully my tale can make you feel better about your year, apologies if yours has been worse

As the saying goes without bad luck I’d have no luck at all!  😉

When we are allowed to fly abroad again I’ll post my flights on here so you can cancel should be on the same plane!  🤣

  11. It’s a very good question and even with by paranoia one I’ve never thought of

My Initial thought would be to try and ‘ground it’ then throw the mud weight over but that might be very foolish!

I’ll be interested in the replies from the more experienced members

  13. Came past Stracey Arms a couple of times the week before last, stopping on the journey south to north to let the dog do the 'neccessary'

There were loads of room both times, which is like going into an empty car park and you cant decide where to park then mess it up, whereas only one spot available your mind is made up and you do it perfectly!  :default_wink:

With an 8'6'' boat I went through a dead on low water both times, you punch the tide a bit but its quite manageable

We had Acle Spice delivered to Herbert Woods yard, and yup very nice!

When you collect your boat it should have a copy of the Broadcaster onboard which has a simplified map as indeed does HW’s Captains manual , if you wish for something more detailed then the below is very good

    0F312B2C-84C5-4DC5-84E6-C843AD6A0D0E.jpeg

It's the best map I've found, enough detail without it becoming cluttered and difficult to read

I bought a laminated copy online direct from Heron a few years ago for not a lot more money, the other ones had more sellotape on them than paper!

Would have used it again this year but I forgot to pack it, doh!

We bought the paper version from Herbert Woods when we had a pump out!

Only £4, which was very good

  15. I'll tell you about my little incident

About 4 weeks before we were due to go on holiday to Cornwall and the Broads, I spent the Saturday 'tarting up' the car

New mats, cleaned the interior and repaired a couple of very small scratches on the bumper, so I could gain access to all the doors I moved the car to the front of the drive, when I'd finished I locked it but left in at the front (big mistake)

My daughter left for work at 7 am on Sunday, but came back into the house and shouted up to me that my hazard lights were flashing, so I got up opened our front door and pointed the key at it, nothing happened so I wandered to the car opened the door of the car and was shocked to see inside (picture below)

Steering wheel media center built in Sat Nav and half the dash board had gone!

Now, the fun began, cant speak to insurance company had to file a claim online and wait!

The Police were informed and sent a CSI chap out to take finger prints DNA samples etc

The police seemed more concerned making me aware of victim support rather than investigating the crime, but I'm probably being unfair on them!

The CSI guy said that they'd been another spate of these attacks recently, he said they'd probably followed me home and cloned the key, because it was 5 years old it wasn't fully connected, so they could get in but not start it, had it been newer the car would probably have just been nicked!

As it turned out it would probably have been better as where the car was left, (by me) was blocking Mandy's car in the drive!

The car was going nowhere, electric hand break on all wheels locked, and the message on the screen said see owner manual to start car!  I dont think so!    :default_biggrin:

Monday came, I drove my daughter to work 20 miles away in her car then came back so Mandy could use the car to go work (she is an ANP and also runs Covid clinics)

So once a 3 car family, we were now only one!

Insurance company rang at 1.30 pm, and at first I thought this is going well, apart from being offered £75 for my built in Sat Nav, I explained it was part of the car but she didn't seem to understand eventually she took advice and came back saying she got it wrong, it was part of the car and not personal belongings

She said that the repairers would collect the car tomorrow and bring a hire car, when I explained the situation with my wife's  car and the fact she was a nurse running covid clinics and couldn't get to work they agreed to get the RAC to collect it that day

To cut a long story short, the car wasn't removed for 4 days as they kept sending the wrong breakdown truck!

I explained to insurers, repairers and RAC that I need this car back for my holiday but all they did was blame each other!

Then one week before my holiday, and just 1 day after me telling them to take their time as there was no chance of me getting the car back and I will need to take the hire car on holiday they decided to write it off!

I'd been ringing them all every day for 3 weeks!

Yup a 5 year old Merc with a few bits missing was now un-repairable, and they wanted the hire car back!

I blew my top at them!

I bought that car 6 months old for £21.5k, it was immaculate but I had put a few miles on the clock, they gave me £12,000 for it, but it was worth more that that to me

So a quick glance at Autotrader, it the hit me that to get a similar car with the necessary goodies the same age as the Merc was when I bought it was going to set me back not far short of £30k

Although I could afford to, I just couldn't justify spending that kind of money on a car!

So I found this Volvo V70, just a couple of miles away same age as the Merc but only 22k miles (it had been a motorbility car) cost me £4k plus the insurance pay out and I could get it now, which was the important bit

So I thought it fits my requirements it had all the goodies and more and it'll do me for a couple of years while I decide what to do

The whole situation has left me exhausted and very disappointed in the level of service you get from people today

The thieves managed to take the parts out in the darkness only a few feet from our bedroom window, but a specialist firm couldn't put the necessary bits back in it to make it go in 3 weeks!  :default_icon_cry:3.thumb.jpg.2c47440030ddb29749197a747243e4d7.jpg3.thumb.jpg.2c47440030ddb29749197a747243e4d7.jpg

What day / time do you need a lift?

    Griff

That’s very kind of you we have a day boat with HW on Wednesday and a table booked at the Kings Arms in the evening

she is improving rapidly, just difficult keeping her quiet!

The offer is much appreciated but we should be ok to walk to the pub and I’ll book a cab for the return

Thanks again for the offer though

    Regards

  17. Hi Chsps

    Help needed

Although our dog is now on the mend after her tendon problem on Saturday I’m not sure we can risk the riverside walk to Ludham from Potter Heigham so anyone know any dog friendly taxis in that area

We used Stripes a couple of years ago and they were great

    Any up to  date suggestions?

    Thanks
