  1. As you are coming to Norfolk  before your time on the Broads try Cromer, plenty of places to get crab and it is always good. If in Hoveton as already said, get your crabs in Roys spermarket  and do it yourself, excellent value for money.

  2. I rented a  Sachina from  Womack Boats, I think it was 1973. On arrival we were given a spark plug and plug spanner and told the boat had a new engine, two stroke I think, and it kept oiling up and might need the plug changing.

Off we went and had a great time. I  remember having to change the plug bobbing around at Thurne mouth after the engine just stopped. Loved it!

  3. Interesting post froom Rum Punch, my wife and I walked out of Roys in Hoveton yesterday as it was the most badly organised place we have been since lockdown. Queue for the grocery store all round the houses in the clothing area with nobody having any idea what was going on.

Where did we go? Tesco in Stalham. No queue, resonable organisation, far from perfect and the only problem the other customers, dithering seems to be a national pastime these days.

Goodness knows what it will be like when the hire boats get going.

  4. Sadly, opening up the economy now is top of the government agenda. Lockdown could have saved thousands of lives if the timing had been right, it was not. Does anyone have any confidence they will get this right? Do people understand the latest rules? No.

I hope boat owners can overnight soon, it will not harm anybody, but with clueless leadership who knows what will happen next?

  5. Your policy through this outfit does not meet the requirements of the Broads Authority. When you make the insurance declaration on paying your toll you could be making a false declaration. I believe more info is available on the Financial Conduct Authority website and also by searching this forum for previous  posts on related matters.

  6. We are already up a creek without a paddle, largely because of austerity, which was never going to work. We do need to rebalance how the nation is funded.

I suspect that the poorest in our society pay a greater proportion of their income into the governments funding, no matter which party is in power. Until we find  a way to correct this we will always struggle.

I worked in the Finance industry for 38 years, despite good profits there were always many ways for corporates and  those at the top to avoid paying for the benefits of living in the UK, it needs to change.

  7. Some parts of Tesco at Norwich Sprowston had been stripped bare by lunchtime today, trolleys piled high being wheeled out. Goodness only knows what some folk are going to do with the rubiish they are buying. Even the cat food aisle had been hit.

  8. Back on to the subject of the signs, one is being attached to the Stalham sign on the A149 approaching from the Hoveton direction today.

Only the waterside part of Stalham is in the BA area. I doubt it will go down well with local residents.

  9. I would put money  on the Broads supporting more jobs and busineses long before the BA came into existence!

The National Park tag puts more people off the Broads than it attracts in my opinion. Wherever I go I try to promote the Broads but the minute I say its a NP people turn off. The wider public do not want to be herded around to selected beauty spots to join a crowd, they just want to be left alone to enjoy through there own discovery. The Acle project comes to mind.

As for local people, we simply do not want it.

  10. Much of the blame for flooding in other parts of the country has been the lack of dredging and the locals tend to know what is going on.

Potter is no different, lack of dredging on the Bure, look at all the navigation posts on the lower Bure, 20  / 30 years ago they were only needed in a few places now there are far more. The river is silting up and I believe holding the water back upstream.

Perhaps this is to help lower the risk of flooding in Gt Yarmouth, probably political decisions that none of us are party to!

  11. I hope the buyers have the right business plan. If the deli is a good draw, discontinueing it could have a big effect reducing other sales as customers have a habit of going elsewhere. I assume it will continue as a convenience store and post office and I wish them well, but they will have to match the current owners reputation.

  12. Have you noticed all the No Mooring signs around the Broads? One of the problems is what I can only describe as land grab where the wealthy and influential acquire assets that never really belonged to them and deprive others of their use.

There are many places where there used to be wild moorings or informal moorings that are no longer available, several moorings around How Hill now carry No Mooring signs presumably placed by the BA, to prevent the ordinary boater from making use of what for many years had been good mooring places. Another example is the dyke leading to the village of Acle where I believe a staithe existed, you try mooring there now.

Good luck with your efforts to open up some of these places but until there is a lot of change in our country you will have a difficult task on your hands.

  13. Has anyone got any knowledge of the Ferguson (Cello) 22 inch Battery & Solar Operated LED TV. It claims that a 2 hour charge will provide 8 to 10 hours of TV with the TV battery charging while the car / boat is under way. It seems like an ideal solution to avoid use of the boats domestic batteries especially at this time of year.
