  1. We visited 'The Victory' last week, and were told the story of Nelson's return (or at least his body). Apparently when it was returned to 'Blighty, the lid was taken off the barrel. Well, sailors being sailors, they couldn't resist a tasting of the 'preservative'.

It was declared to be very good, possessing of plenty of body.......

    I'll get me coat...

  2. They could save money by getting rid of Packman, we need more moorings not less, I'm begining to wonder where all our toll money is going, it seems that most of the clearing work is done by volunteers these days, apart from a few more electric points I can't see any improvements,,,

    Frank,,,,

Just a small point! where did this information come from about the closure I can't seem to find anything relating to it???

The BA web site is to be polite - 'coy' on this matter, however It has been discussed by the Broads Tourism Group, who will have 'contacts'.

  3. The word on the rhond is that The Broads Authority are planning to close the Paddy's Lane moorings at the head of Barton Broad to save money. The have already served notice on Norfolk Wildlife Trust to terminate the current agreement for the boardwalk to be there.

This would be a very bad idea, for a number of reasons. It's a popular stop for many, although there are no facilities. Closure could seriously impact on the operations of the Nancy Oldfield Trust, since it would add to the congestion which occurs in the narrow Lime Kiln dyke leading to Neatishead Staithe. Please consider signing the petition.

  4. The first piece of advice I would give to any hirer would be 'read the bl***y hirers handbook. Amazing what you can find in there :love

  5. Yes JM, A good, if a little light read. I would thoroughly recommend it to those with an interest in the history of the Broads, particularly the last 250 years or so,

There are some good illustrations as well, there is even one of a general store in Oulton Broad..... ;)

  6. Probably the same bloke who was wagging his tail all the way down the dyke. Upon hearing 'my strong remonstration'  he replied " don't stress mate, they don't say nuffin when you take 'em back".

I explained that my boat, along with several others would NOT be taken back ( as politely as I was able :naughty: )

    he appeared genuinely surprised!

They live ( and boat) amongst us.

Thank GOD they aren't all like that.

  7. cheers.  She's a rag 'n stick, so a free standing job is no good.  Something like the spinflo is what is needed, but I'd like 'pre owned' if possible. To be honest, I'd rather spend money on rig etc.  The BSS isn't due for a couple of years yet, it's something I know I shall probably have to address before then.

  8. My photo of her under power shows her tilted up slightly at the bow, so the bow wave may be slightly longer than her LWL, so the multiplier could then be as much as 1.5.

Possible, but very inefficient with the deep wash. Though it's only wind that's being wasted ! :)

Stowager, the multiplier is a constant. However, with a design of this type as the vessel heels to the wind, more of the hull is immersed and then the waterline length increases. Ergo. the hull speed increases!

The overhangs were a design feature in Victorian/Edwardian racing yachts, since handicaps were calculated using waterline length at rest. Any slight heel therefore would offer an advantage.......  :naughty:
