wayneakp
Hi all Looking around I came across a boat today that has been "resprayed" in two pack epoxy. It is an older boat but I was wondering if : a) This is a normal thing to be doing It would detract from the value of the boat Thanks in advance Wayne
mbird
HI Wayne A lot of older boats undergo a face lift with paint if the gel coat becomes badly faded/damaged/crazed etc. Our old boat was painted after a lifetime in a hire fleet, and it certainly gives them a new lease of life. As to whether it affects value, I suppose that depends on the buyer. Original gel coat is often seen as desirable, but only up until it is no longer aesthetically pleasing. Far better to have a sound hull well painted than look a heap of crap in gel coat IMHO.
Antares_9
Many high end new GRP boats are two pack painted from new, much easier to keep maintained and looking nice than matching gelcoat scratches, I certainly wouldn't baulk at a painted boat with the usual caveat about a survey to see that it's not covering up poor repairs. Then again if it's a nice paint job it is likely that the same care will have been taken with and substrate repair.
