  1. Was wondering that too Simon, can't waitto get out there but don't really know where I am going once I do, there is Southwold although I hear the Harbour is a bit awkward. Ian
  2. Will give those a miss then thank you David, dont fancy planning to go against the tide all the time.. Ian
  3. White wine perry, but it has taken all the colour out of the red carpet
  4. Have moved batterys from the stren on the port side to more midships and all the food microwaves and clothes etc. is forward, six knots extra though with more weight on board seems a lot. Having said that it was blowing 5-6 and we were pushing over 2-3' waves on the sea trial. No one had any dealings with these doelfin things then? have heard they are really good on small ski boats and the like but not heard anything about them on a 27' twin engine set up. Ian
  5. That is exactly the one Perry, did you get the reg number so I can report him to the cheap spanish plonk authority. White lady does start to climb at about 12 knots but is heavily on the hump right up to about 19 and it is only then that she will climb over and levels off at about about 22 knots with the rev counters both showing around 3500, knock it back to 3400 and she just sinks back down. Fastest I have had is 38 knots on Breydon at high tide, this was supprisingly the same by both paddle wheel and GPS, and even more supprising was the fact that on sea trials down in Poole she wouldnt do any more than 32 and that was with no weight on. Is it possible that distribution of weight could alter the performance characteristics so much?
  6. Brian, Have trim tabs and the boat and it used to stay on the plane down to about 17 or 18 knots but with the addition of all the cruising and convienience weight she is now a fair bit heavier, was thinking of fitting Doelfins to the outdrives if enough time is spent at planing speeds to justify it, does anyone have any expierience of these, do they work? Ian
  7. The other week we were coming North to South on Breydon behind a very nice Blue boat possibly a Bénéteau, We were at our lowest planing speed which on the day was around 22 knots, the other boat which looked a lot heavier than our 3 tons was also planing but at a much lower speed possibly as low as 15 Knots. How is this possible? The other skipper also owes us a bottle of wine as when he got up to the turn for the Yare he turned round and accelerated onto the plane, he must have gone faster though because I would say he was coming at us at at least 50 knots and causing massive possibly as high as 6' waves to roll across Breydon, in order to counter these tidal waves I had to thrust forward the throttles causing my bow to fly out of the water and the bottle of wine which obviously was in the right place for Breydon, open and blanced on the edge of the galley work top, to be thrown off onto the floor consequantly smashing and ruining our whole years holiday. Seriously interested in how kingfisher gets on the plane so early and just thought you might be missing the second bit if you had'nt been on NBF for a while Ian
  8. On reflection Appologies to both Perry and the technical forum moderator, did'nt mean to make lite of a serious subject, just that I have a great deal of contempt for those that see themselves as higher than the law and shrug their shoulders when they get it wrong even if they have done irreprable damage in the proccess. sure that all the people at HMRC are human possibly. Ian
  9. Are you sure it is the WC you are looking at and not the washing machine Perry.
  10. and a top speed of 6 mph Jonny dont know if it is electronic or manual but what a waste. Is bad enough doing Breydon at 6 or 7 mph in a normal hire boat, imagine how you would feel on that. Ian
  11. Ooch, thanks for that Perry, suppose a week isn't too bad and in the middle of summer you would'nt normally expect to be stuck for longer than that, as long as we don't get another year like this one. Ian
  12. Great Idea Brian but dont think you have factored in the duty that you must self declare and pay to HMRC sure someone will put the exact figure in but think it is around 27p per litre. You can only go duty free if it is for personal use and you brewed it yourself. For arguments sake it is your company so you could say it was personal use and brewing as a member of a club would make the brewing kit at least partly yours. Reality HMRC say tough, blow up the still and charge you a few thousand for the privalige of doing so, then the nice man performs the strip search just because he likes to do this and you go to prison for 50 years. In order to make room they will release a murderer or rapist but only if they have served a full 3 days imprisonment, if all murderers and rapists have been released than a speeding motorist maybe released providing he has served at least 25 years. Ian
  13. Question for Perry or David, as your return from the summer voyage was deleyed by the weather I assume that you incured lots of mooring fees, do they continue to charge you at the overnight rate in that situation or are reduced prices given, also if not too nosey what are the fee's like around that part of the world? Ian
  14. Saw Liberty go past us at the Swan Horning, have to say that she would have looked a lot more impessive if someone had given her a clean before sending her out. Gorgeous real boat with the private factor in bucket loads, but would have been a bit upset if the boat was handed over to me like that. Ian
  15. Johnny, all are welcome on white lady but think it may be wise to let me get a few sea hours under my belt first, unless you are good at pushing boats off mud banks that is,
  16. Should a sea toilet hold water in the bowl? I assume it should but for some reason white ladys seeps away into the holding tank, if you switch over to the sea outlet it still seeps away. Thpught about putting an upwards pointing loop in the outlet pipe but cant get it in anywhere. Any suggestions? Ian
  17. Looking forward to our first trip out next year, have done so much in preperation though I hope it is worth it. Taken dayskipper, theory at least. fixed the VHF, bought Flares, bought Tender to double as emergency liferaft, Bought admiralty chart Bought GPS still to buy hand bearing compass, horseshoe life bouy, (yes know should have one anyway) Almanac Engine Spares this is just the basics too so I am told, when someone said that boating was an expensive hobby my perception of expensive didn't quite measure up to reality. Still got a couple of 3lt petrol engines to feed once I get out there as well. Ian
