It was entertaining when they first appeared to watch the local yoof doing the usual 70-odd then slamming on the anchors to trickle past the inoperative cameras.

Gutted for you,Griff. If she is a registered breeder I'd drop a line to the Kennel Club too - they're very hot on policing their breeders. (Previous deck totty bred shih tzus)

We saw one a few years ago on a hired bathtub curled up on the stern - "ooh look, someone's brought one of those stuffed ships cats from Nauticalia!" Then it started washing its bum! There also used to be a liveaboard about (Bourne 40??) with a catflap let into the side of the sliding canopy so it can be done. I don't think I'd trust any of our four on board though.

Did there not use to be a waste compactor set up there? Probably would have taken all that easily.

When we were about a couple of weeks ago there was either a new or a beautifully restored Caraboat at How Hill - maybe 14/16' with a Honda outboard. I'd have got a snap but I was busier than a one armed paper hanger avoiding the muppetry.

With all due respect to the seriousness of the thread, I sincerely hope that time will show paddle boarding to be a passing fad. I could understand the appeal of it, if it were considerably cheaper than canoeing but to me, it seems a thoroughly pointless waste of time and money. Apart from waterborne bacteria, I don't fancy the combination of tired legs and wash from a boat.
I do hope so - some years ago I was a stretcher bearer moving the victim of a propeller/leg coming together from the safety boat to a waiting ambulance, his leg from the knee down followed in a bin bag! You can guess what goes through my mind whenever I see a SUP!

Another vote from me for Alan Boswell. When Edward William suddenly decided we were no longer insured and the Halifax wouldn't process the online payment to their recommended alternative because "red flags were raised", Alice at Boswell's (working from home) knew all about it, knew what a Bounty 27 was and where Broadsedge was without being told and arranged cover without a survey within 24 hours!

MM - have you tried phoning David at Broadsedge? The number we have is 07584 341446. Not used it for a while but should be current.

Its often an education listening to the VHF at Felixstowe on a weekend when there's racing going on out of the Royal Harwich Yot Club. Pilots driving big box ships have a very large vocabulary!

I think we saw Jimmy Doherty (him with the 'farm' out Wherstead way) at the helm a couple of weeks ago.

It wasn't a pin dish - it was an ashtray!
Vaughan, technically it would have been imported (probably from China) as a pin dish - ashtrays with the groove to rest your Woodbine in attracted a higher rate of duty back in the day. Of course, everybody used them as ashtrays ,we have just that one at the helm of No Worries !

Until a few years ago all my boating kit was kindly donated by Her Maj. - you can imagine my surprise when I found out how much a pair of Sebago Docksides and a lifejacket service cost!

Ta for that, I'll update my phone (again!). Reading between the lines, they've been a bit overwhelmed by the interest.

Try 07538569128 - supposedly the mooring booking line. (Its on Facebook so it must be true) Griff - dogs still only on the verandah, apparently.

We had some chaps knock the door this afternoon reckoned they were something from the Government doing a health check. Anyone else know anything about this. We just listened and they left.
Hylander - do you have a dog? There has been cold-calling round Suffolk and Norfolk using various excuses and if a dog is seen a discrete chalk mark is left nearby, they later come back with a van and lift the dog or dogs. There have been warnings on Suffolk police pages for a week or so. A mate in a village just out of town had a visit a week ago,c/w chalk mark!

We passed you on your way down to Acle around Upton Dyke, running well with a big bone on Lucents teeth! According to Garmin you were doing a good 5.5 mph!

Ludham Bridge was the usual mayhem on Tuesday morning, FBI moorings virtually empty (Gus was up on the roof of a new build just up from King line). The New Inn had 8 or so boats moored and garden full, good to see. Salhouse chocker, Wroxham not too busy, straight through the bridge with a wave from the pilot in a mask. Coltishall full by 4 and the same on Wednesday (mea culpa,we stayed 2 nights as it was hissing down.) Now at the West end of Salhouse and its still precipitating! All in all its like a normal July midweek. We didn't venture in any pubs as victualled on board. We're just glad to be back!

not all single sex parties are as bad as that, you just have to look at our lads week for proof of that, 4 boats 24 lads, and the worst we got up to was 3 abreast up the river bure for a photo opportunity, and there was still room for the boats coming the other way.
It always tickled us on our lads weeks (average age low 70s, two RC priests, one Lt.Cmdr. ret'd, one tug master foreign going) when Herbie's apologetically took our brown envelope with £300 in it to put in a drawer to give back at the end of the week.

I've overnighted happily at both ends of Barton depending on wind direction, Salhouse at the Wroxham end, Womack and Malthouse on a single weight. The theory is the boat swings into the wind so give minimum resistance.

does anyone know of takeaway restaurants that deliver to moorings?
we have both son and daughter with us on this trip and prefer not to cook on board!
Ali Spice in Coltishall will deliver - we've only had from them at Coltishall but I hear they'll go as far as Ranworth and Gays Staithe. Highly recommended and huge portions.01603 266133.

Suggested 7 Day (kid Friendly) Itinerary For Southern Broads?

I'm with the others - since the Woods End was reincarnated as the Waters Edge its the only establishment on or near the Broads in which I've been made to feel I should really have worn a suit and tie - decidedly unwelcoming!
