  1. Thanks for that CC.   I plan to stop at Womack Staithe on Friday night and then give the pilot a ring on Saturday.  It seems it depends who the Pilot is that day on whether a boat will get under or not.  I hope its a 'keen' one on Saturday :default_smiley-char054:  Thanks again

  2. Hi again guys.

It  looks like Wroxham Bridge will be a no no now so I am looking at other places to stay on our short 3 night cruise.

Can you tell me how far it is to the pub from Womack Staithe?  Seems a daft question for those that enjoy walking but to be honest I drink better than I walk these days!

    Thanks and:default_winko: Cheers

Blimey, I don't understand the half of it Alan :default_biggrin:

Phone the Pilot when you arrive in Norfolk to find out if you have any chance of getting through, if not, you can plan another route.

I so hope you get through the bridge though, it's stunning. For me, one of the best cruises on the whole system

    Good luck :default_icon_kiss:

    Grace x

Thanks for that Grace.  I'll feel even more peed off it I can't get through now! :default_biggrin:  It seems to be the actual pilot on the day who decides so I will 'phone Saturday morning and make other plans if required as you have suggested :default_icon_luvlove:

  4. Some years ago the wife had a Jeep.  She parked in Dover High Street did her shopping and when she got back to the car it was dead.  We had a quick look and towed it back to the garage where it then started without a problem.  Out of curiosity we went back to where she had been parked and it was next to one of those big green boxes used by Telecom.  Something in there had effected the cars immobiliser!  The only other time it happened was at our local recycling centre.  Same thing happened but we pushed it away from the plant and it was OK again.  Very odd. :default_icon_rolleyes:

It looks like a clematis Montana to me. Or at the very least an early group 1 clematis. Not much needs to be done other than keeping it tidy.
Mine tried to grow all along my washing line.

    Yea - that's what I thought - thanks:default_coat:

  6. A certain member of this forum has told me to take things easy so I have took his/her advice.  Just got back from a few pints with my son where we put the world to rights.  Very enjoyable it was too :default_winko:  Anyway in my mellow mood I thought I would show you this plant we have growing on the back fence.  Very pretty, no idea what it is but Mirical Grow sure works!  :default_biggrin: Cheers IMG_4673.thumb.JPG.3d4b59906aa5e9dd5dc01c02c351a149.JPG

  7. We are hiring a boat in May from Stalham and Sutton was my choice to stay on the last night before returning the boat on Monday morning but I am now thinking of retuning to the boatyard on the last night and going to the Swan by car.  A better move perhaps? :default_sad:

Whilst I agree that £4 for water top up seems excessive I can understand why the current owner feels the need to charge this much , firstly the cost of purchasing the equipment which was made necessary as the previous honesty box payments were far less than the actual water costs and the need to recoup monies lost by previous non payment.

This was told to me by the current owner/operator when he installed the meters.

So yes £4 is excessive but if the end users had been honest and paid the former £2 charge when they used the facilities the meters wouldn’t be in place and the cost would have been lower.

I agree with everything you have said and to be honest if I had let myself run out of water £4 would not seem a lot to pay and no one is forced to use it are they.

I'd look for someone local who could clean it for you then let it out on AirBnB. Farmers are being told to diversify, so you can probably come to an arrangement with your mate so everyone's happy. Most areas you could probably get £100 a night, or go cheap, aim for the itinerant tradesman market and let it 5 days a week year round.

Good thought but to be honest my buddy raises young cattle and with all the rain has'nt been able to let them out to graze.  He has used all of his farm produced hay to feed them and has had to buy food in at astronomical prices which I think might bring him down unfortunately so it will need to be moved/sold anyway :default_sad:

Would that be on the Broadlands Site or Manor Farm, Our first visit back to the Broads since we sold the boat will be in July with the caravan at Manor Farm. that will be 18mths since selling. Looking forward to it,  still not missing the boat but enjoying caravanning.

Hi.  You probably did'nt know that I was the sales manager of a touring caravan sales centre for a number of years.  We were quite successfull but every time I sold a new or used caravan I used to think 'you could buy a boat for that money'!   When we sold our last boat on the 'Broads' we bought a rather nice motor caravan but always seemed to go back to the 'Broads' with it.  With the now increasing mooring fees ro pay it seemed a good choice.  However, as a salesman at heart, I was offered a good profit and sold it.  We then bought a nice touring caravan so that we and my son and his partner an our grandkids could use it.  Its sat on my mates farm for the last 2 years, unused.  Maybe time I sold that too?

another thing my Gran did was to put tin cans into a metal biscuit box (the old fashioned ones a foot cube) and bury them in the garden, when we went visiting she would dig up one of  these tins and we would have a meal of pot luck, as invariably the labels had disintegrated so we would get corned beef (easily recognisable tin) from goodness knows what date (maybe even as far back as the war) with peaches instead of peas.

maybe it was her way of discouraging visitors to call round for a meal (it worked).

or you would all go shopping which was when she inevitably found she had left her purse at home.

she was however a very fun grandma with a wicked sense of humour.

Not sure I would have wanted to eat at 'hers' but liked her style of shopping!

    You would say correctly.

You get some great pictures of your Shiz-tzu.  As soon as we point a camera towards ours she turns round and shows us her bum.  Maybe she's camera shy? :default_rolleyes:

  13. We had a 'Jolly Boys' four days a couple of years ago from Freedom when they were operating, on Absolute Freedom.  Rockland was an overnight stop with a lot of darts and drinking - we were treated like locals.  In fact the then landlord (now left unfortunately) gave us all one of their beer fest tea shirts.  A great night.  Lets hope it re opens with a like minded landlord :default_beerchug::default_smile:

We always take Bramble with us into the various pubs we use when in Broadland we are however aware that she is young and overly friendly and keep her on her lead , we a couple of exceptions where we (and her) know everyone and it’s permitted .

That said beware at the spring meet as she regards empty laps as fair game (as Neil found out last year)

Looking forward to that but our dog Purdy will want to get on your lap to get her own back!
