  1. Anyone looking for a day boat on the Broads?  On e bay no. 325991793257 there is a Seamaster 20feet day boat complete with small inboard diesel engine.  Looks cheap to me with a buy it now price.  Definately worth a look if you are interested in buying one.  I had a good look but according to shmbo I am not interested! :default_unsure:  Just to add.  I have NO connection with the seller.

I just hunted through my sent folder with a view to resending and I can't find it, my head wasn't very good when I emailed as I was suffering from a chest infection so I may have typed it and hit the wrong button, not even in drafts folder so....

Sorry Paul I may have blamed you for not replying to an email I didn't send :default_blush: please try and brush up on your psychic abilities to cater for idiots like me. :default_biggrin:

    I'll try again.

    Oops!  Must try harder!

Watch your renewal premium. I'm a Gold AA member and have been with them for 20+ years. My premium (relay only, no homestart) went from £100 to £125 this year. Checking online, the same to a new customer was £85. One phone call and they amended the premium to match the new cost - but it's a sickening phenomena and shows our loyalty is just exploited. I also insure with them at the moment and had pretty much the same situation with that too.

I thought it was now made illegal to offer a new customer better terms than an existing one?  Obviously I'm wrong.  It really should be stopped :default_sad:

    Any recommendations on breakdown cover.

I have been with RAC for over 20 years and never called them out.

£140 last year, £210 this year for renewal at the end of March.

I had a call from them today offering a early renewal of £160, only if I discuss it there and then. They couldn't email details until they had explained it.

I hate this tactic and told them so, they sent an email with details and said they will phone again tomorrow.

If they are this desperate they can go whistle.

Any recommendations of real life experience with smaller companies would be much appreciated.

The wife had cover with that 'green' company.  She only called them out once when she had a puncture on her XC90 and could'nt release the spare.  When they tried to renew it it had gone up considerably.  When asked why thet said "you called us out last year" - policy not renewed.  Now have AA for all vehicles with mechanical cover

We only ever used hoseasons once and it turned out to be a very expensive nightmare, the boating holiday bit was good but the week after I wound up buying a little boat on our local river after looking at day hire prices, from there it just snowballed!

If I'd gone camping instead I'd now just have a slightly bigger tent collecting dust in the loft and a bank full of cash but instead I have to face the miseries of boat ownership and an alcohol problem (problem being too many riverside pubs closed).:default_biggrin:

I got rid of the last boat some years ago but have kept the alcohol problem!  :default_hiding:

So, back to the Chinese heater.

It's now being used in anger for about 12 hours a day. I give it about an hour on full to get things warm then half power to maintain the temperature. I have been doing that for a week now. I do turn it off if I go out, but I would do that whatever the make.

Pros, cons and conclusions so far.

Pros. ... total outlay £300 plus fitting for brand new unit. More user friendly control panel.

Cons. Pump is noisy but I'm getting used to that.

Conclusions.  Only time will tell if this has been a good move overall but for now, I'm happy.  It should be remembered that all the fittings are from the original Eberspatcher unit and that the exhaust and fuel feeds are therefore tried and tested.  I would be reluctant to use those supplied with the Chinese heater which do indeed look cheap and cheerful.

Are there not quieter pumps on the market which you could maybe replace yours with if the noise eventually gets on your nerves?  Otherwise great to hear its all OK

My potential apologies for tonight Bern. Think I need to get snug in bed to nurse a filthy cold. If I can’t get to sleep, I’ll come along, at least for a while.
First cold I’ve had in many, many years.

    Get well soon :default_sad:

There appears to be no reward for loyalty now.  My RAC renewal came in at the end of November and it took a phone call to negotiate the price down to something more acceptable.  Our mobile phone contracts were coming to an end and we’ve saved a fortune by buying new phones direct from Apple and getting discounted SIM only deals from EE, who provide our full fibre broadband and not accepting the deal offered.

And don’t start me on actually getting through to speak to a human being.  Automated answering, selecting multiple options to eventually get through to someone who can help is so frustrating and the music they choose to play whilst you’re waiting usually drives me to distraction.

My most recent experience being with Halfords, whose Tyres on the Drive operative succeeded in damaging two of the alloys on my wife’s car whilst fitting new two new tyres.  Twenty minutes listening to inane ‘muzak’ to speak to someone in South Africa, who lacks any degree of empathy, is not what I call customer service!  Grrrrrrrrr! 😡

When we ran a business we had a severe problem with British Gas and sometimes had four calls a day from I assume somewhere in Asia.  It was hard to identify what they were saying and Assume reading from a script sheet.  Did'nt sort out the problem.  Just wound me up more and more on a daily basis.

no, just to access my back garden from the road, the path is technically not even on their property, but a previous owner took the fence down and no amount of telling the new owner will get him to reinstate it (as he sees that it gives him a bigger garden, so at least once a year I use the access to ensure I can say its in constant use and to stop him saying its unused and fencing it in (the council actually owns the path).

Some neighbours can be a real pita.  I have one that appears to be 10x worse than yours!  And no, we have never done anything to upset him  :default_sad:

  10. We hired the smaller picnic boat from Simpsons.  Just two of us and a mutt.  Wanted something  that was like a 'proper' boat with a loo (which we never used!).  It did have a 'fridge and one of the noiseiest small diesel engines fitted under the bow!  Apart from the noise it did the job.

Okay, so Graham’s birthday is officially cancelled. :default_coat:

It doesn’t help that I left his birthday pressie at home. Though, to be fair this is the first year for quite a while that I’ve actually bought Graham a birthday present. He is very adamant that cards and pressies are not his thing. It’s taken me 40 years of marriage to try and buck this trend, then I go and mess it up by leaving the pressie at home. I’m safe in revealing this as he doesn’t read the forum, so at least I can surprise him when we get home.

Save it and give it to him next year  :default_coat:

    Hi all.

Some positive news. Dad changed consultant's and wards and has started to improve. He is more awake. Anti seizilure meds have been changed and he has responded and now has only small seizures. He started to talk today. He has a long way to go but it's a lot less dark than it was. Please keep thinking of him.. something worked. Huge thanks to all.

    Great news.  Thanks

Ahh - Red Barrell.  In truth it was probably s..t but who cared (or knew better) when young!  :default_drinks:

I have my Mercedes SLK oil changed that often without fail, despite the fact it lives in the garage and came out 6 times this year. Why argue with a customer wanting to spend their money? Better than a customer arguing something does not need doing when it really does need it, or chasing customers for payment..

Excuse me but where did I say I argued with the customer.  As I said, the customer is always right.  Advising him to try and save money is not right then?

Three years ago I was charged with selling my Father-in-law's 10 year old Kia Venga which he had bought new from the main dealer in Leicester. He had traded in his very low mileage Carens and they stung him at the time with a very low trade in value. He would have been 82 at the time. I went through the service invoices and was horrified at the amount of money they had taken him for. From memory, there was a 12k service at 5k miles and a couple of 20k services too. It had only done 16,300 miles when I sold it! He was also supposed to get something like 25% discount on his first seven years services but they seem to have forgotten that.

Having watched Robin's videos, in the "you may also like" column it seems there is a trend for all the Clarkson wannabees on Youtube to buy a car from Ebay/FB Marketplace and take it to a main dealer for assessment. Four grand for a pair of Jag headlights! :default_scaredmouse:

I ran a SEAT dealership set up on the day they started in this country.  We had a lot of happy customers. One of them was an ex Army Officer.  Lovely guy and quite elderly.  He did'nt do a great mileage but insisted on a full service every six months.  It did not matter how many times I told him he was wasting his money - he insisted.  Customer was always right.

Sorry its not 40% but our prices are low enough already!

Bit bloody late now!   But thanks anyway
