  1. Have clicked on the NDAA map as suggested by Robin. It does appear that the St Benets mooring is split roughly into thirds, one third being where boats have priority mooring rights during the summer whilst on two thirds the anglers will have priority. Guess work on my part but that is how I interpret the relatively clear NDAA information/map.

I am sure someone in the BA knows what is going on as the NDAA must have negotiated, or not, these rights over this area which is leased to the BA

But has the NDAA taken over the lease, or at least part of it? Come on, Tom, some of us are gagging for information.

The anglers seem to wish to take over the Broads!!

Not us anglers, more like the birders.

Anyway, us anglers have always played second fiddle to the boaters. In reality anglers have very little of the Broads, at least to themselves. Not to say that I appreciate the prospect of lost moorings.

The most relevant comment of the debate!

Angling has long taken second place to boating on the Broads but nevertheless any lose of moorings has to be a concern to us all.

    TOM, OVER TO YOU.

£20 for one and all.    I am pretty sure that my Direct Debit that goes out every year for a pensioner is £20.   What benefits do you get for being a pensioner.   I stand to be corrected.

The benefits of being a pensioner are having sore knees, poor balance, more memories, greater dependency on the NHS, having great grandchildren (bonus), perhaps needing pads or even someone to wipe your bum!

Well if not , I've broken the rules a few times!!!!

My thought is that this will apply to the forthcoming season. Am I not right in thinking that some of the area marked as blue, seemingly now under NDAA control, is part of the BA's 24hr mooring at St Benets?

Excuse my stupidness if I am being stupid😣, but does this mean you are meant to have a separate licence should you fish at the moorings beside st bennets?

You will need your usual fishing license for fishing the Broads but beyond that I can only guess. The map shows that the NDAA now appears to have control of the fishing at the Abbey and their website appears to suggest that the fishing is for their members and I can only guess that it will be for their members only.  If the NDAA has taken control of the fishery there then I suspect that they will need to at least balance their books.

  8. Some of the finest bream fishing in Broadland is to be had from the St Benet's Abbey area. I note now that it is no longer a day ticket water, annual ticket only (£20.00). Details here showing where you can fish at St Benets. If you intend fishing there on holiday then it would seem prudent to get your tickets before you go. £20.00 for us keen anglers must be the sale of the century!

I wonder if all those negs are still around in somebody's attic - what a piece of history they would be.

The two likely candidates are Yallops or Fishers, both companies were very active 'smudging' around holiday camps and boatyards. Back then, as a student, I worked for both companies, great fun and a real earner. Fishers still exist but cleared all their negatives back in the 1970's, including pictures of the Beatles when they came to Norwich. Yallops ceased trading early 1980's and their assets, including hundreds of old glass plates of Yarmouth & the Broads were dumped into a skip, tragic. In both cases I found out after the event, I was horrified!

What on earth would a fisherman want with a telescope????

Being serious this time. I have such a telescope that belonged to a long departed forbear who was a fisherman. Many houses along the coast had a room overlooking the sea and fishermen ashore kept watch on approaching fishing craft. The fishermen, as they approached the beach or the harbour signaled ashore as to what they had to land and subsequently sell as well as their ETA. That way the lumpers would be ready to unload and the sellers could set their prices based on supply and demand. Fishermen would also keep an eye on their mates that were at sea.

. . . . . Tides, longer between moorings, less wild moorings. Less Towns that are built around the boater eg potter and Wrexham. Less water points and the big one, fear of not getting back to yard . . . . . .

    Wrexham, that is well North!
