If you go on the Norfolk Live web cam page and then the Salthouse Hotel (Ipswich). A certain lady called Debbie is asking if hire boats are allowed to moor there!!!!
-
Now it is used exclusively in top range outboards and saildrives below water.
I moved out of that branch of engineering some ten years later so what has changed I wonder.
-
Looks a really good job. I am constantly amazed how practice changes. Back in the late 60s as a Mechanical Engineering Student we were lectured at length in metallurgy. Stainless below the waterline (especially in fresh water which is prone to stagnation) was an absolute design non starter due to :
"Oxygen Starvation" we were told, except in the case of shafts where numerous other trace elements were added to enable a relatively small diameter to cope with the torque.

The name sent me into a colds sweat. I had a new Dolomite Sprint in the 70s. It was one of the fastest thing about at the time. Unfortunately it worked about 2 days in 365

I stand corrected Simon, if a boat is not restored to its original design above and below then it does not matter. I was under the false impression that it was.
-
Original layout is very important in restoration otherwise both value and desirability is greatly reduced. How many homes had two bathooms or ensuite in the sixties? Not a lot! And in many parts of the county what they did have was down the yard. A lot hs changed in fifty years.

I think there is a Suzuki Outboard dealership at St Olaves but Marine Power of Brundall were the main outlet for the Broads

Fineway transfered their outboard business to Marinetec at South Walsham about six years ago. Fineway hire fleet is now part of Richardsons. I am sure Marinetec would help but they are predominantly Honda, Yamaha and Mariner.

We have had painted elephants, gorillas and hippos in Norwich. Crabs and lobsters in Cromer and Sheringham I think they look good and bring a smile to peoples faces. I am sure that there are plenty of folk that think the colour scheme of some boats that ply the Broads are pretty tacky and out of place. But I think it is a great use what has become a worthless site.

Camera operated traffic lights are not rocket science. They would only stop traffic on the A47 when needed.

In the early 2000s I was thinking of buying a wooden cruiser. Three companys were in my sights Kompass, based in Sneek, Friesland, Vikin Marin in Turkey and another in Shri Lanka, (why not stay as Ceylon, used to know all the countries beforethey started calling themselves other names). I abandoned the idea as I decided on a ten year early retirement instead but kept an interest going. I believe Kompas downsized and moved about 2006 and became a victim of the 2008 crisis. They may however have been taken over. Lovely boats.

Or it might be the weight of all those migrating to the area thats sinking the SE, not to mention the new building going on everywhere.
-
It is all the fault of Scotland! If they had held onto their 2km of ice 12000 years ago, they would not be rising and SE England sinking.
Seriously the land mass is sinking but tidal flow changes can also drive water further up the system. I am sure the flow through Ludham Bridge is stronger than a few years ago.

Takings will be down now that Robin is an owner!!!

I doubt those that live along the river and those of us who have no difficulty with it's height would agree. Raise Potter and Wroxham and Beccles old and you will wreck what is left of the best of Broadland.

I think the main problem with Wroxham, apart from being arched is that it is not at 90 degrees to the river. If you do not keep well to starboard that allows you to line up on the key stone and you are long, then, by the time the stern is coming through you can be in trouble.

Went on Infinity on the 13th May. Get the speed OK, in the 30's. But I really signed up because I was told it would be "Super Reliable".
It is not, drops out just as much as before and is dreadful in the early hours. At present not impressed. Speed is not the most important aspect for us, reliability is.

I thought the new Broome factory was to be on the corner of Cucumber Lane and the A47. But that site is now being covered in houses.
-
Definitely better when you have a mast and halyard to get a decent fall of water.

Vango and Gelert make them and the going rate in camp shops is £3 to £7.99.
Happy Showering,
Chris.
-
P.S. Check out your camping shop first, bound to be a third cheaper.
-
5 gallon Solar Sun Shower are available from force 4 @ £12.95.
Had one for years on my sailing cruiser. Absolutely brilliant for hot sunny days. Absolutely useless for the weather this summer.

Some time ago someone on one of the forums recommended a book, it is called "Isles of The West" by Ian Mitchell.
It is a very good read if you are interested in small boat cruising the Western Isles but in context with this thread it offers a real insight into the workings of the RSPB in Scotland. I bought it in Kindle format for Android so pretty cheap. Sorry if I am pinching someone's thunder but please read if you can.

I meant to add that their income is not far off twice that spent by Central Government on all the National Parks put together.
Boat Horn Advice.

The great benefit of a canister horn be it pump up or precharged is that it can be pointed at your desired target.
Fixed horns will often be pointing in the wrong direction and direction makes a lot of difference to their effectiveness.
