  1. I stand corrected.

My comment was based on my own experience sailing the Essex coast, estuaries and creeks. My own boat,a 20' yacht, has a makers recommendation of 6hp,about the largest the outboard well will take.

I use a 4hp but would prefer a "little extra' in reserve.

  2. Don't wish to be disrespectful or cause offence and I'm certainly not questioning your knowledge, experience or abilities, but 3.5 HP on a 28' boat sounds a tad underpowered/optimistic? I'm hoping it was a typo! I've got my flak jacket and helmet ready.

  3. Are there any problems using a 2 stroke outboard on the Broads?.

I know 2's are noisier, thirstier and smellier and 4's are heavier, dearer and more attractive to our light-fingered friends!

Other than that though is there any reason not to use a small(4-5hp) 2 stroke?

    Thanks

  4. We found Breydon Water to be an absolute doddle.Followed advice regarding tides/navigation etc,no problem. There were a couple of boats that apparently run aground, way outside the marker posts!

I think if approached with a bit of common sense and following advice freely given,it shouldn't cause a problem for anyone.

Mind you, most of my boating is done in the salty stuff,so I'm probably at a slight advantage!

  5. Hi all

Am currently partway through the the refurb of a sadly neglected badly bodged 1963 Kingfisher 20' yacht.

My long term goal is to bring her up to The Broads, initially for a holiday, ideally permanently.

    Progress(slow/lack of!)can be found at www.poormanssailing.wordpress.com

I'll put updates on here as well in future, but I'm in the process of a house move so don't hold your breath

  6. Sorry, kept it as clean as possible, it was meant in the spirit of classic British comedy with all the double entendres, who can forget Mrs Slocombes ***** in 'are you being served?' or corporal Jones 'they don't like it up 'em'. All aired on primetime TV for family viewing. And as for some of the 'carry on' films. ......

So apologies for any offence, but to quote Kenny Everitt 'it was all done in the best possible taste!'

I daren't mention that characters full name' Cupid *****' for fear of getting banned! Now that is really near the knuckle, but once again, primetime.

  7. It's a good job I'm a decent clean living bloke, otherwise i might have made a near the knuckle comment about you and your hubby instead.sorry, couldn't resist,
