  1. The bird hide is still there. If you moor in Rockland Short Dyke it is a quicker walk to it than mooring at Rockland Staithe. The moorings are also much nicer IMO.

A good walk might wear them out enough to make them quiet, so as to not scare all the birds away!

  2. Get that, but it’s been done to death ( perhaps not the best terminology) on other threads.   We all know the dangers for our health individually, both physically and mentally and the economy as we slide into the inevitable recession.
The Broads are open for us to enjoy - celebrate that for now and keep the virus on the threads that already exist.

    I couldn’t agree more!

I was only responding to the two earlier comments/posts made by others...

We are booked with Silverline Marine via hoseasons.

Pick up time is 5pm and I get that additional cleaning time is needed but not sure what happens to social distancing and pick up times when you have 10 sets of families all anxious to board 10 different boats at 5pm?

Richardson are requesting you all stay in your cars, until time to depart.

The handover will be done with the lead booker only.

I am actually liking the sound of this new system, no standing in queues!

Oooooooooooh!  Another thread diverting away from the original post and heading for COVID-19 and controversy!

    Indeed.

Unfortuantly it seem to have gone that way.

Anyway, back on to my original post!

Parks for the children whist some attractions are still closed....

  5. With small children who have been stuck at home for over three months, the risk of playing on some swings and slides in an outdoor park are worth it.

Children need fresh air and exercise.

We can be responsible, by avoiding already busy parks, respect 2m distancing and LOTS of handwashing, and regular use of hand sanitiser whilst at the park.

Life does indeed need to get back to a ‘new normal’. For the benefit of people’s mental health as much as anything else.

  6. Sounds like we will be having fun finding moorings on our holiday then...
    Holiday diary:
7:00am  - left overnight morning headed towards......
7:15am - spotted boat leaving mooring, took its place for the night.....

    Please please no....🤞

We have had our all our new style paperwork emailed through, and have completed our online check in.

We still have our unchanged handover time of 1pm on Saturday. So we will be hotfooting it out of the yard as fast as we can!!

Richardson’s have done some brilliant videos, including one explaining how arrivals and handover will be different.

It’s on there Facebook page if anyone is interested.

  7. Thank you for all the suggestions!

I believe play parks are allowed to open from the 4th July so fingers crossed.

  8. I am hoping to pick your brains.

Do any moorings on the Yare have playgrounds/parks nearby?

    Suitable for a 4 & 6 year old.

We normal stick to the River Waveney when going south. The children love the RWC playground and Pool and the Lido at Beccles, but next week the Pools will still be closed.

I thought I might use it as a good reason to explore the Yare more. But I don’t know it so well.

  9. Bexs - you should try sailing on the Broads! Takes some skill with those big sails and all those damned furriners getting in the way!!!!

    I have.

My parents hired from Martham & Eastwood when I was a teenager.

I started hiring myself, from what was the Norfolk Broads Yachting Co., when I 19 and then when they sold most of the fleet to Martham.

The last time I hired a yacht was my honeymoon on Zoe back in 2012.

Our first child was born a year later. Thats when we switched to hiring motors boats. It was more practical with a 1 year old as I am/was the only sailor in the family.

I am working on that though... This my six year old daughter racing her Poole AB.

  10. Well this time next week, we should be onboard and hopefully out of the yard!

Happy to up date as to what changes in the normal handover process.

If we do Ranworth it will be on the island this time.

  11. Interesting contrast between Vaughan's observations in France and Andy's comments above. I was born in Poole and knowing the beaches in the area well I was shocked and worried by the scenes yesterday. Do our European friends have a more cautious culture?

It would have broken your heart to see it. It’s was just appalling.

I thought about taking the children to Studland Beach for a few hours, as soon as we woke up when it would still be quiet. But then decided I just didn’t want to be a part of it, even as a resident.

We normally take the rib to the beach to avoid the traffic and crowded spots even on a normal weekend. We don’t like crowds even under normal circumstances.

  12. This year could be different as who knows whether families will wait for school holidays to officially start or will have given up on home schooling once we get into July or feel they can do some of that while away.

This is exactly what we have done.

Normally do 10 days to include the May half term and then another week for the October half term.

This year May obviously got cancelled.

Children are at home being home schooled anyway, to took a chance and book for the 4th as our favourite boat was suddenly available.

This was before the date 4th July had even been outlined as a possible. It was just fluke!

We have only every been in the school summer holidays once. It was our honeymoon which we spent on Zoe from Martham.

It was a really quiet week... it was the first week of the 2012 Olympics. No idea if that was why the broads were so quiet, everyone had Olympic fever?

“ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TIMES HAVE CHANGED TO ALLOW TIME FOR DEEPER CLEANING OF PROPERTIES. PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE AT YOUR PROPERTY BEFORE 5PM AND LEAVE BEFORE 9AM ON YOUR DAY OF DEPARTURE. THANK YOU”
I’ve just received a detailed invoice for our holiday boat hire with Broom in September, it states a change of handover from 14.00 to 17.00, now I’ve no complaints about this as the extra time is for the boat to be deep cleaned for our benefit but seeing as sunset is 18.00 on that day and with the understandable rule that there is no navigation after sunset then I am concerned that the available time will not be enough to complete the handover, obviously the first night will be in the boatyard,.
With the previous handover time being 14.00 we had planned to moor up around Cantly/Hartley Cross in preparation of crossing Breydon on the Sunday morning, that will now have to wait until the Monday. I’m not sure if having previously hired boats on the Broads ( Royalls and Richardsons) and I have taken the RYA power boating course albeit a few years ago will make any difference to the handover.
This “Safer Stays” procedure will be and is being adopted by responsible boat hirers so hopefully the inevitable delay in most instances causing an overnight in the relevant boat yards will not result on the following morning being turned into a waterborne whacky races
The quote at top of post appears to be a generic Hoseasons one on behalf of Broom so the boatyard may have other ideas, will have to wait and see.Having said all that we are so happy that at the moment it looks like we will get our much look forward to holiday, a bonus will be having time on the Saturday morning at a brokerage looking at a possible purchase of our own boat, but shush don’t tell the Missus.

Thanks for posting this, I am waiting to see what the new handover procedure will be like for us on the 4th July. We will be the first on the boat for 3 months.

Like you a private boat owner at home with years of experience and qualifications. We have hired from the yard twice a year for years, and we have had this boat before.

BUT I would imagine they maybe have to apply the same rules to everyone, for fairness. I don’t know..

  14. P is for Pet

We had Monacao P booked for our Autumn break, but I got a phone call a few weeks ago to tell us it won’t have been built!

Due to Covid they have obviously had to stop building.

It confused me a bit as I thought the Pet boats would be the oldest boats in class not the newest.

Maybe they have just had to have a bit of a change about.

They were fabulous about sorting us out with another boat though, top class Richardson’s service as always.

  15. I have spoken to NBD. The bridge pilot is running.

If anybody really wants to know more, speak to the service provider. You can be certain that the pilot service will be as safe as can be humanly possible else it would not be permitted to run.

    Thank you! That’s brilliant.

I wasn’t worried regarding our health.

As I said, happy to take our chances!!

I was more worried that H&S and all the red tape might get in the way.
