  1. As a much less frequent visitor to the Broads these days , i am Intrigued by your constant references to a "taxi rank" what and where is this  "taxi rank" exactly ? No one else ever mentions it .

  2. Bill Shankley said " football is not just a matter of life and death , its much more important than that " I always found that comment puerile and pathetic , sums whole football cult up to me.

Just goes to show kicking a ball around isn’t important at all. The nurses and doctors should be getting their pay and the footballers getting the reverse pay 😀

In no way am I defending the sky high wages that footballers enjoy but we need some balance here.

This is hypothetical but there you go.  Imagine a footballer that earns say £50'000 a week or £200'00 a month.  Straight off they are paying 40% tax plus however much NI so that £200'00 is down to £120'000. (less NI)  Most earners spend or live to their means, big earners - expensive outgoings.  Plus a footballers career is how long on average at the top on top money  - ten years?  So their typical mortgage won't be over a 30 year period like the rest of us, you can bet their big expensive mansion is mortgaged over ten years or so to get it paid off before their earnings drop down

They may well be able to afford a pay cut like the majority of the working population right now but down to 80% for them might just be more of a problem for them than it is for us.  a 20% cut on not a lot isn't a lot, 20% down on £200'000 is £40'000 - makes you think

Yes I really feel sorry for them too , maybe crowd funding would help them a bit ?......

  4. I detest the bling jewelry poppies which are getting more and more prevalent. In no way does this support the British Legion , remembrance is not meant to be a bloody fashion show at the end of the day. Just take a look at the "celebrities" on the telly ! The Strictly judges etc. Paper poppies not good enough.

    Makes me sick

  5. Whilst enjoying a pleasant week (mainly fishing ) in a property near summercraft boatyard , we have observed on a daily basis  a gentleman in a nearby private property who has two dogs.

I find it apalling that he throws all the dog faeces straight into the dyke.As an angler i appreciate that the rivers arent very clean at the best of times but this is disgusting. Dirty s..

When I was very young my late uncle was chairman of the Leicestershire County Council Sport Committee. in 1974 he took me to Villa Park to watch an FA Cup replay versus Liverpool, it was my first ever match. Liverpool were awesome that day and beat Leicester 3-1 to reach the final. IIRC Liverpool scored right at the start of the second half but Leicester equalised quickly. Goal from Keegan and Toshack, Liverpool's golden boys secured the win.

The Final, which in those days was just about the only live televised game was between Liverpool and Newcastle United. It was a very controversial year as in the quarter final Newcastle, playing Notts Forest at St James's Park had been three one down with a player sent off when the Newcastle Fans invaded the pitch. There were many injuries including to Forest players and lots of arrests. After the melee died down the referee restarted the match and Newcastle came from behind to win 4-3. An FA enquiry into the match was exepcted to disqualify Newcastle but instead "copped out" and ordered a replay at a neutral ground, which Newcastle won.

For just about the only time in history the whole country was behind Liverpool in the final which they won 3-0 at Wembley in what would be Bill Shankly's last game in charge. Keegan scored twice, I think the other goal was Heighway. The final was always on the day of our school May Fair and I remember watching it on the TV in the school with lots of others, mostly Dads. After the final whistle Malcolm Macdonald broke down on the pitch in floods of tears, receiving little sympathy from the assembled crowd due to the dislike for Newcastle because of the earlier controversy. I joined in with the jeering and heckling and have been a Liverpool supporter ever since.

After twelve years on the waiting list I finally got my season ticket in 1997, but that was the premier league era and saw Liverpool matches, like other top sides increasingly moved from Saturday afternoon to satisfy TV schedules. I surrendered it just four years later having managed to attend only six of the 19 home league games that year.

I remain an "avid". I have run with the Urchins. I was in Brussels in 1985 to watch the formality of the reigning champions brush aside Juventus in the European Cup Final, or so we expected and witnessed, or so I thought at the time the very worst of football until 4 years later I stood in the Leppings Lane end of Hillsborough. I didn't attend another football match Until 20th April 1994, the so called "Kop's Last Stand". I decided if I didn't get back on the horse then so to speak I never would. Norwich were the visitors to Anfield that day. They hadn't read the script and won 1 - 0 on a day charged with emotion. An error from "Calamity James" IIRC.

By that time Liverpool were in decline, unable to match the spending power of our East Lancs rivals. A string of hugely average signings further damaged our performances and in the words of Yoda ...."begun the wilderness years had". I watched Liverpool emerge from those wilderness years in Istanbul in 2005, mortgaging my left kidney to fund the trip. We thought that was the start of a new era, the Raffaloution, but alas the frailties of the clubs management structure kept us tethered. The Hicks and Gillette Years followed, the club was bankrupted by two men who were nothing more than fraudsters and crooks. We avoided administration by the skin of our teeth and finally ousted them. Gillette had been quoted as saying he would sell Liverpool "over his dead body". The Urchins made clear that they could arrange that.

And so the FSG era began. The new stand promised by G&H never materialised but recent developments to Anfield at least give us a capacity to challenge the big spending clubs. FSG have had a lot to do to rebuild the club but finally our scouting looks more consistent.

But redemption will not truly arrive until we are Premier League winners. That will not be this year, unless the hand of fate decides to deal us a Leicester City style Joker.

Personally I Can't stand football but each to their own.

My son in law says he "supports" Liverpool but never goes to a match.

If shouting at a telly screen defines supporting then surely the plot has been lost ?

The moorings are situated at the rear of the property , the opposite side to where you would be fishing , the boats are permanently moored (but usually moored elsewhere on the rivers for the weekend ) .

many fishermen and women have hired Bure Croft before and had a successful week.

when you arrive by car you will see the boats moored at the rear by your entrance to your two parking spaces .

most of the previous fishermen had fished from the front elevation during the day where it overlooks the Summercraft basin (only two start days with them and only a dozen boats in total if all hired out .

at night they have also fished from the side elevation into the dyke itself , I was on my boat a week ago Friday overnight and only one boat travelled past Bure Croft all day .

another bonus is the lockable storage room at the side of the property for storage of fishing gear.

hope this puts your mind at rest don’t hesitate to pm me if you want further information

Phew ! Thanks for this mate you have put my mind at rest .

Had visions of casting over the top of a cruiser all week !  So pleased you replied

There are only four boats in total moored there and is very quiet and peaceful , virtually no river movement , as peaceful as it gets I assure you , and you have ample private parking for two cars at Bure Croft

It doesnt mention this on the website, nor do the pictures show boats moored up !  are these boats moored permanently at the front of the property ?

There are 4 of us going for the fishing and based on the pictures it looked ideal initially.

I would greatly appreciate some more info if you can as this booking is worrying us now and looking less appealing..Thanks for the reply !

Member of the family looking for a waterside property to  fish from on the Northern rivers  September time ,any advise welcome, thanks Roy

Stayed at Wilderness and Riversmead both on  main river, fishing excellent on all 3 September occasions we visited. Also had a week at Owlswick at Grebe island , September again , water gin clear down the dyke , fishing poor.

    Recommend Riverside Rentals 100%

    Regards, Stefan.

  11. What do you mean by home moorings ? I' ve booked bure croft for a week but am a bit concerned that its a busy thoroughfare next to summercraft.

Bure Croft , and Bure Banks are both our home moorings , both have proved very popular and successful with fishermen (we do however have a resident otter )

  13. I realise of course  that we are living in a wonderful politically correct world nowadays, but would it be inconsidorate of me to request that a " Boring " icon be included  in the post response comments icons ?

Please do not take offence at this request but it might at least create a bit of light hearted amusement.

What do other members think ?

    Marina destroyed!

I find it telling that this news story hasn’t had much prominence.  There’s a capital-centric news bias both in England and Wales.  In Welsh news it trailed a long time after news of people being stuck in traffic in South Wales. The Marina in Holyhead, Anglesey has been completely devastated by high winds with about 70 private boats and another 10 company boats being smashed up /sunk. I know there’s lots of disruption due to snow, but I would have thought that this might have featured as a news item!

Afraid that if it hasn't happened in London the media aren't interested. The place is my idea of a living nightmare !

Have also watched the film three times plus the original and any TV programme  read most books about Dunkirk.

My father was plucked off the beach on the first of June 1940 by an indeterminate trawler and dumped at Ramsgate.

He never spoke about the horrors, until one night on a Dunkirk vets trip funnily on the first of June 1970.

We were sat around a bar table in Ostend, me a mere strapling of a lad with about fourteen vets. All of them telling their stories and my father recounted his. All the vets who told their story were in tears, at the horror they witnessed on that beach 30 years earlier, anywhere between the Mole and La Panne.

I only got a little more from my father of his war time service. Five years later he took his memories to his grave.

My Dad was with 5th Panzer army during the German retreat at Falaise,  captured in August 44 he never spoke about all the horrors till he was in his 80's. Like loads of vets the only way I could get him to say anything was after a few pints ! Fortunately I made notes of our conversations and keep telling myself that I will one day put them to paper in a readable form. Both the bad and the funny ! I have been so lucky not to go through the hell he did, Bless him.
