Okay so this is a bit of a silly post but it's all a bit quiet on the forum so I thought we could have a bit of fun (yes, I'm bored lol). I've just been watching a big cats documentary and got to thinking, as you do, if, when you die and could reincarnate as an animal, what would your choice be?
After just watching a pride of big cats take down a Wildebeast, tear it to shreds and practically eat it alive, I think I want to come back as a lion and definitely not a ruddy Wildebeast lol.
I would like to come back as a Swan on the Broads, that way you get to be on the beautiful rivers, be near boats and mate with the same swan all your life, unless one happens to swim along resembling Johnny Depp
Sorry for the silliness, I really have had only one glass you know
Grace
Just the fish hooks and fishing line to worry about Gracie !

I remember a weather forecast many moons ago with the magnetic symbols when the F dropped off the fog label, without thinking the forecaster announced "sorry about the F in fog", I don't believe he intended it to sound like it did but I did LMAO.
I don't remember which forecaster it was.
There was an advert in Grimsby Telegraph fishing and shooting section years ago on behalf of someone who was selling trapped rabbi's.
I didn't buy any though.
Some clown left the "t" off.

Saw this in yesterdays Cambridge Evening News:
Since they have trouble forecasting the weather they obviously have an office competition to invent new names.
What with weather bombs and giving storms bloody names..... worlds gone mad.Why do we have to copy everything the americans do ??

Not at all Troutman62 i'v not taken it as a personal affront far from it , Cooking On The Corsican is all about what you can do on a boat with a limited amount of equipment you can still make delicious food , but no problem I did not take your comment personally , maybe if you watch some of my vlogs you will see what I am trying to do , all the best ... cheers ...
Same to you mate ! Keep up the good work.

Merely expressing my culinary preference old boy, sorry you have taken it as a personal affront.
However i dont feel i can apologise to the paste and stand by my criticism of it.
-
Paste curries in no way compare to restaurant food. Every variety tastes almost the same thats why i grind my own spices it doesnt take long. I bet the authentic home made pastes you talk about bear no resemblance to a sharwoods or pataks. Superb i bet !!

Some footballers would do quite well on Strictly the way they prance about the field.
I always love it when the england team get knocked out of all the tournaments ( not that i watch the dross) bless 'em. Still, they can always go and buy a ferrari or two or to drown their sorrows. What was the stupid song ? 30 years of suffering or summat ?
About 50 years plus now ha ha .

I am in a right state out here in Bali because they don't show any of that.
I have to watch football, motorbikes and Formula 1.
Rather watch anything than football.

Aah !
Basket meals , why not indeed , cheap n' cheerful , why do pubs have to try and emulate this masterchef crap and fail miserably ?
Tiny portions, smears on the plate and twills for Gods sake.
Get back to basics and cut the overheads.

It will be a tragedy if this iconic symbol of the broads is ever knocked down. had some wonderful times there since 70'.

we may see you on the rivers , we are on majestic gem 2 :)
Went in last week , lovely pub. Nice meal and nice staff and no better view anywhere.

Went last Sunday to an established Wroxham eatery. What a mistake !
Fish n chips , the fish the size of a large battered fish finger and the waiter stank of B.O . The guy on the carvery had zilch customer skills and was grumpy.
As we were leaving, the table next door were served decent fish portions and when this was questioned i was told thats how its sold to them. Dont they know that bulk fish sizes can be specified i.e. 6oz 8oz portions ?
I wish i dare name this place but would probably be sued.
Bless 'em they were very busy, but never again.

We stayed overnight at Wayford bridge on 8th September before a weeks stay in a waterside cottage in wroxham.
Would thoroughly recommend, spotless room, good evening meal , friendly jolly staff and a cooked breakfast to die for ! Lovely beer garden as well.
No more driving at stupid o clock on saturday mornings for us ! Give it a go.

Unfortunately if schools staggered the holidays throughout the year, the friendly holiday companies would just respond by increasing prices for every bloody week ! Ya can' t beat the system.

It is not unusual that old 16mm film gets converted and shared by a family on You Tube of their past holidays, but what is very rare is finding how it was for the likes of me - in the 1990's when I was on the water.
I found a very well made (and long at over 2 hours) film of a family holiday taken in 1991. A lot has changed and equally a lot has not. Makes for fascinating viewing from the start with the take over and trial run to the southern rivers and Breydon up tot Wroxham and beyond. I am sure there will be a number of people on this Forum who will enjoy this and strike a chord with their own memories of Broads boating in the 1990's.
Very nice indeed. A refreshing change from films of ducks and the cameraman posing ad nauseam for incessant selfies. The seventies up to the nineties were the best broads years for me it brought to mind the poem "Land of lost content" by A E Housman.

Hopefully !
We've got those wonderful never ending cookery progs to thank for the non existent species of sea bass !

Hi Troutman62,
I am with you regarding self serve tills, I avoid these at all shops, sadly all the supermarkets have increased the amount of these in store. To be honest I do not see the financial gain on these, they must cost the earth to supply and maintain and always need a member of staff on hand to sort out the vast amount of issues with their use.
A couple of years ago I went to B & Q ( I had two items a plumbing fitting and 2.5 litres of yacht varnish) but they would not open a till for me, I left the two items by the till with protests from an hovering member of staff saying you can't do that. The yacht I purchased later in the day from a decorating shop that I often use, this was over £20 a tin cheaper for a better product.
That particular B & Q has since shut, a sign of the times or just to many people voting with their feet.
Regards
Alan
Hi Alan,
Dont get me started on B & Q for Heavens sake, another place to avoid at all costs. I make a 20 mile round trip to a Louth D.I.Y just to avoid the experience of being "served" in our local B & Q by a bunch of miserable buggers who don't know the difference between low voltage and low wattage , true !!
Regards
Stefan

Why is it not cheaper to use "self serve" tills than a "manned" one?
If I am putting everything through the till myself then I should be paid as a member of staff for the time it takes to process everything through the till and receive a staff discount as well.
I have never yet heard one of the "self-serve" tills ask if you need a bag or help with packing your purchases !!
Jeff
I won't use self serve tills on principle. Just another way of reducing staff.

I've used Ficklings shop a few times, he's the Man when it comes to piking no doubt.
Your experience was a treat to read , if only other dealers were similar and not so quick for a fast buck.I've never been asked anything about fish care in any tackle shop. You'd think the Broads tackle shops would be a bit more like that, all things considered !

Seems to me that eastern europeans always get the blame for mistreating fish. What about all the "anglers" who holiday on the Broads every year ? No proper equipment, no idea, toy rods, all they want is a photo trophy, couldnt care less about fish welfare.
I've seen it all over the years and lost count of the fish I've had to unhook for these merchant bankers.

Thats what I was on about.
Wonder if they own the fishing rights or just trying it on ? Don't think I'll bother now, probably give Salhouse a go instead next time we're down..
Good Luck To England
