  1. I almost think the Golden Galleon would put your memory into the late 1970s??? Could be proved wrong.

Okay my questions - how many crew on board

Was the helm also dealing with the mainsheet or was there someone else on the stern dealing with that?

Did you have winches for the jib

    Did it have a bowsprit

Can you remember the occupation of the helm

I'm thinking of Melody or Bryony maybe?

Liz (who remembers sailing at Horning, Wroxham, Barton, Thurne and Oulton in the 1970s but not the 80s)

  2. So pleased you are okay. A friend in the spring also fell in at Ludham Bridge. How did you get out? My friend had terrible problems but eventually found the BA ladder to haul herself out!

I've never seen so much.thats perhaps only a quarter of the stuff. And much of which not cheap.

You should go to our local posh garden centre - the prices are horrendous. I had to go there the other day as I needed an old fashioned Advent calendar (no chocolate or goodies) and it's like IKEA/ airport duty-free to get to the tills/out. There are no short cuts!

  4. As I said in another post - my brother reckons its the worst he's ever seen at the house in Horning since we moved there in 1970!  My dinghy is floating off the trolley in the dinghy store which is under the house - the old Percival's slipway (there is a barrier to stop it floating away!

In the 70s the water would be off the end of the slipway - that just doesn't ever happen now!

We had a trip round yesterday never seen the water levels so high in fifty years of visiting the broads

My brother has just told me it's the highest he has seen in Horning in also 50 years. Apparently my dinghy has floated off it's trailer in the dinghy store!!!

  6. Might be a school party moored up so the Swan was probably quiet!  I've encountered one on several occasions during the half term week.  There is also sailing cruiser down  river today as well - briefing at the New Inn but probably starting further down?

  7. The houses on the other side of the road on the left hand side are almost correct - you can just see one of the houses built on the Percival site development in 1970 (to the left of the steps up to the field.

As webntweb says the garden is much longer and there used to be a large willow tree in the 1970s - not sure when it came down.  On the right side you should be able to see Southgates Boatyard yards ......

So quite a degree of artistic license has been employed

  8. It was extremely high at Horning over the weekend - I was stepping up onto my brother's boat and it was very soggy around the sailing club!  Haven't heard anything about how bad it might be down towards the Ferry though?

    Hi Jenny

From the forum it looks as though you have a lot of knowledge of norfolk broads artists. I wonder if you recognise this artist, the painting is off a broads view with broads cruisers, painted in 1991, with great detail and colour, oil on board i believe, initials SRA 1991  in bottom righthand corner i have been trying to search the net, with no luck.
    kind regards debbie

There wasn't a photo of the picture?

Update on the phone signal/temporary mast

HPC met with the company which will do the construction on the temporary mast for O2 last week, on the recreation ground. Unfortunately, this site is not considered viable and O2 will be housing this mast on a farm, just on the offskirts of Horning (plan B).

All of Horning will still be covered by this; the signal strength is not decreaed due to being outside of the center of Horning. Those on various contracts (Vodafone etc.) - those network providers are coming in with O2 on this temporary mast.

The building works will commence shortly, and the mast will be live around 26th September.
