I paid 6 pound for 4 hours in Cromer,  and that was in a field,  20 minutes walk to the pier.  I think the Norfolk hot spots have got the edge over local council car parks.

Yep .... Cromer parking charges are outrageous. Makes popping in for a couple of hours far too expensive.

On the plus side ..... there are always plenty of parking spaces.

You have a Tesco's there which will soon make all those independent shops things of the past unless they get custom. Don't believe me? Go look at Stalham. See what Tesco's has done to that!

Tesco's has been in Beccles for several years now and arguably Beccles has improved much over this time. Probably because of the pedestrianisation of the road next to the King's head which makes the whole area seem more welcoming.

Whenever I have attempted to access that carpark on a week day its usually been packed out and I assumed its used by people working on the Industrial Estate more than anything else.

Yep, this is my recent experience too. I've had to do a drive through and leave as there are no free spaces on at least a couple of occassions. I think 2 hours free parking might be an attractive compromise.

In general a town like Beccles needs to attract visitors so free parking is essential for the local economy. Charging commuters for a parking space seems appropriate to me.

RANT warning: I really object to the ticket machines that boldly announce "over payment accepted .... no change will be given"!! Particularly when fees are set in such a way that multiple denominations of coins are required to meet the exact fee.

  4. What I see is a modern take on the "bathtub" with a large outside lounge/driving area on the roof. The outside space is to me very appealing.

I guess being an inland vessel it doesn't need the streamlining of a coastal boat.

Is it ugly? yes but then so are many grp broads boats but I think the combination of below decks luxury and on top open air lounging will appeal to many hirers.

I think that is a little bit unfair Smelly, a bit like saying supermarkets and department stores should be banned for encouraging shoplifting.

The fellow I'm staying with had an industrial accident many years ago. The firm of solicitors supplied to him (by the company he was working for) said that it was just one of those things and that he had left it too long before giving them instructions to take legal action. The reason he had left it for over a year, was that he was in a coma for most of that time. He believed them and left it at that.

This accident has left him with a very bad back, and mental problems. (something very big and heavy fell on his head) I am also pretty sure it caused him to develop Epilepsy.

    .

He has never received a call telling him he has had an accident... dammit!

Just to be clear, I have no problem with people claiming damages for injury or the companies that help them achieve this.

My complaint is the practice of blanket calling random people "fishing" for cases for them to persue.

It appears that the government also believes that this is a menace and is activelly trying to stop it.

    Let's hope it works.

Even though both types of calls are irritating , they are very different issues. The "Your computer is slow, is a scam, a criminal attempting to rob you.

The "We understand you've had an accident" is a cold call trying to acquire "No win no fee" business from people who haven't claimed compensation for real accidents. This is not a criminal activity however abhorrent the ambulance chasing parasites may be.

Yes, if you have the telephone preference system in action, then an offence has been committed, but it isn't attempted fraud.

It is perhaps worth remembering that these callers are trying to do their jobs. Better doing that than sitting on their backsides at home watching TV and drawing the dole.

Imagine a young relative of yours, it was the only job offered to him/her and it was a matter of pride that made them take it rather than live off the backs of others, those who work. How would you like their call answered?

    Rant over.

Whilst I have sympathy with your thought processes I think the "accident chasing" callers are conducting a type of "theft". They encourage people to make bogus claims which in turn leads to us all paying higher insurance premiums.

It is difficult to have sympathy with a cold caller that spouts off "I believe you recently suffered an accident" which is blatently untrue and then tries to fish for any kind of accident you may have suffered from in the past.

Strangely I had frequent such calls prior to my accident but mercysfully havn't had any since the event occured.

      What they do is wicked.

Exactly ...... Preying on the vunerable is disgraceful. Not just the scammers do this there are quite a few "ligitate UK businesses" who provide aids for the elderly who quote  extorionate prices up front.

Many elderly folk will accept the first price as they think it too rude to haggle. BUT haggle and the price can be halved .... I know ...... this happened to my mum when she was in need of a stair lift.

    "What they do is wicked"!!

There are always people moaning about planning applications regardless of where they are located. Unless the complaints are valid ones, which in this case they would seem not to be, then the planners will just glance over them and dismiss them.

You are quite correct and our planning system is designed to allow those with objections to make them known.

I am not very familiar with this bit of Yarmouth but to me the development looks like it will improve the site whilst adding extra facilities for boaters which is a plus.

I'm sure the planners will examine all the comments that have been officialy made and then come to a conclusion.. I think it a little unfair to brand the local objections as "moaners" as their observations are an important part of the planning process.

  9. "snap" .... I broke my ankle 6 months ago. I now have 2 titanium screws in place. All on the mend now as I'm sure yours will be.

Tell them you'll be hopping mad if you can't get to the wedding.

    All the best

This may have already been said but I think rather than the bridge actually failing I do wonder if 26 degrees is the temperature they decide not to open it incase it causes trouble by not closing again.

I suspect you may be right ..... I guess they want to avoid it being stuck open at all costs.

Please forgive my naivete, but haven't we always had hot weather in summer? So has the bridge always failed to open when the weather is hot? If not, when did it start and what has changed?

I've lived here for an awfully long time and the extreme heat events like we enjoyed this year have been rare .... although they do seem to be becoming the norm.

  12. Is it just me? But I think there are areas such as this that should be left undisturbed by motor cruisers.

It is a truly magical world when explored via dinghy by oar or  electric outboard.

But leave the motor cruiser in the deeper waters of Bargate and let the peace & quiet remain undisturbed ..... there really arn't many places left where you really can get away from the hubbub of modern life.

I dislike very much being handed a card reader that says "Gratuity? Y/N"

I like being given the choice. Sometimes the cash in my pocket is destined for a car park so unless I tip via card their would be no tip.

By the way, I like my steaks with a pulse, my curries hot, my fish less than 24 hours old and the chips twice cooked, e.g. oven chips deep fried! Does that qualify me to comment on food?

No .... that just makes you fussy. :) :default_coat:
