  1. Gosh! The bug certainly caught you young!  :clap   :clap   :clap

Caught me when I was a kid holidaying with ma & pa, they took me on boats before I could remember all over the place, but I think when the bug started I was about 13 (same time I got seriously into fishing) we then started hiring richo's boats 2-3 times a year! I can then remember I paid the favour back when I was 16 with my first lot of wages and took them on a holiday, a suprise birthday gift to my mother, a broadland moon hampton lol. (but was still good fun)

Thats the same year when I started saving for my first boat, a norman 23 from NYA at the age of 16:Stinky, then saved more, sold the norman for a small profit and bought the old ocean 30 for 10k from paul richardson.

Cut a long story short... brought the ocean 30 back to my dads yard and began, 12 months later took her back to stalham and launched her, all freshly painted, filled:naughty: & refited interior.

Had her for approx 5 years, going all over the broads and spending all our spare time on her, she never wanted for anything, just chugged along all day.

Then my wife got pregant with our 1st and thats when I sold her (again for a small profit:naughty:) and have been concentrating building up our company over the last 10 years.

Last year was the year we finally had time to get back into owning a boat (we now have a superb team of staff I can rely on & trust!) so searched for our current bayliner, but now we have our 3rd on the way and thats why we are now looking bigger.

Will post some pics when I get a chance to find them :)

If you are a bit bored you may want to take a look at the first part.. The restoration from day 1: http://www.thenorfolkbroads.net/forum/topic/4481-sabre-28-cruiser-project

I have had a little look, & when I get some spare time to ''myself'' lol I will make a brew and sit and read, just the first few pages reminded me of my first project boat when I was 17! yes 17. an old hearts cruiser Ocean 30. If I can find some photos I will post them :)

  3. I see "New boat forces reluctant sale" what did you buy Mr Plant??

Not ''bought'' as yet, but have 2 / even 3 we 'would' purchase once we get the sale on the bayliner, should have worded it 'potential' new boat forcing sale, as you will all know it's a waiting game when you are trying to sell.

As soon as everything come together we will keep you all posted :dance

  4. So for speeding they take you to court - whack a bridge and they don't seem too interested.

Maybe there is stuff I don't know about bridge hits, but a vehicle hits a bridge and it normally requires an inspection before it's back in use. A lot more costly in time and effort for the bridge people, but I guess the boat is classed as something for the yards or private owner to deal with.

OK speeding is inconsiderate, damages banks, can be dangerous etc, but unless this boat was blasting along and it was blatantly obvious they were speeding at an extreme velocity this seems well over the top.

How do standard speeding fines work on the Broads? If you get caught by a ranger and issued with a fine? Was that not appropriate in this case?

If I was caught and the Broads came to me with video evidence of doing 20mph in a 4mph and said we are fining you - a) I wouldn't have been doing this in the first place, b)If I was I would have known I was being naughty and c)I would have paid the £200 if I had been threatened with court as it was a fair cop.

If it was say 6mph in a 4mph - would a little chat and warning not have sufficed? OK they are breaking the rules, but sometimes it is all that is needed.

    Well said baitrunner

Where has common sense gone, typical nanny state!

Yes if they are doing 20mph throw the book at em, but for a little over have a word / small on the spot fixed penalty, if they persist, then proceed harder. Quite simple.

If the yards explained to hirers there is an on the spot £... fine if you speed, I guess 90% of hirers would respect that.:River Police

  5. Hi Mr P.... I believe that the s37 was sold about 3 weeks ago and his new boat is in the new pontoon moorings (a westward bath tub).

At the time of us getting our (broom 34 sedan....1st boat as you come into the marina from the river on the right) we looked at various boats of all shapes, sizes and configurations.

If you fancy a nose around ours give me a shout or just pop across when your about.

Hi Broadland Lady, will be down at the weekend and might just take up your offer thankscheersbar, went on a 34 sedan last weekend, like a floating cottage with those big rear doors, quite stunning really. But think we will need a little more length with 3 kids, grandparents and dog:shocked

  6. I suppose it depends on how you intend to spend your time on the Broads.

If you use the Broads as a base with occasional salty trips then the above druel inducing vessel would be great.

However if you intend to stay in the Broads then I would choose an older Broads friendly cruiser. I say this as within the confines of the Broads you are bound to encounter contact from novice crews, with possible damage.

However if image is important to you (and for some this is a very important requirement) then I guess you already know what you want.

    Good luck with your search.

Agree with everything you have pointed out.

Useage - would be weekends on the Northern broads, couple of weeks cruising full broads and I would LOVE to go out at least a few times a year, but being bases northern broads its quite a cruise down to yarmouth before getting out.

Image - everyone likes smooth stylish lines:naughty:

Damage - yes I will admit that, I cringe everytime a big 40ft hire cruiser trys to moor in the 35ft space in front of us now, but I also fully understand that this is what the broads is about and we used to be that crew, so I try not to worry ''to much'' Only thing that angers me is big groups who dont give a **** about the hire company boat or private boats and think its 'funny' about crashing, just no respecttwo guns

My brain says go with the broads cruiser

My heart says go with the sporty looking totally unpractical beauty:naughty:

  7. Hi:wave

Some of you will know we are currently looking at changing our boat for a slightly larger one with more room for the kids, 2/3 seperate cabins etc. Been looking at forward drive alpha's, a couple of alpha centre cockpits, old connoisseur's and a few others, approx 40-44ft.

Although these boats are perfect for the broads I cant help but looking at more ''modern'' sporty costal boats again Arrrhhh!!!! :naughty::Stinky Must be the 8 year old boy in me:naughty:

Moored a few up from ours at the boatyard is a sealine s37, everytime I drive in she stands out from the rest, keep looking out for the owner to have a chat but never anyone there...

Anyone on here have any experiences with cruising the S37 on the broads, twin diesels...

  8. For an inland cruiser the single lower HP engine wouldnt bother me, just they seam good value compared to other 'Brand New' Boats...

Anyone know what the build quality is like on them and how good the GRP is...?

I think the 34, 36 & 38 look superb and wouldnt look out of place on the broads?:shocked

  9. He he he, the advise is for the bayliner, we have our eye on 2 boats, but would obviously need the sale on the bayliner before we can move:naughty: so my lips are sealed:taunt:

As said in previous posts if the bayliner doesnt sell we will be keeping her, and thats why I still need to give her the care an attention she deserves, because she is mint:bow

If/when we sell I will miss it. I've always loved the style of them, and it does have alot of features for the value, I already have 2 new solid teak tables ordered and some new toys just incase we keep her:naughty: the mrs thinks I'm crazy, but I keep telling her its just my hobby:swordpir:

  10. Hi

Been speaking to a few others about this question and some people suggest raising the legs out of the water everytime we leave the boat, and some say makes no difference. From early spring - end oct/nov we use her most weekends. This coming winter will be the first with this boat but will be winterised by a marina.

Would anyone here have any kind advice / opinions
    cheersbar

    Thanks
