  1. Hi Ken.

I seem to remember that there was an eatery in the odd shaped chalet/lodge building.

If I remember correctly it was in the building right next to JB Boat Sales office and looked down the dyke towards the main river before  the houseboats were moved to Wayford Bridge.

I stayed in one of the houseboats that were at Grebe Island and I think I recall it being there at that time.

What is now JB's office used to be a little shop but my son used to take the row boat (with outboard) round to the little shop that was in one of the outbuildings at the Ferry Inn.

  2. Just been having a look on the Barnes Brinkcraft webcam and noticed one of their boats with a large area covered by what looks like a plastic sheet.

It looks like it could be covering some damage and is there to prevent the weather getting in.

Does anyone know anything about it ?

  3. Out of curiosity I 've had a look at the Le Boat website and I think it's about time someone in their "organisation" should tell them what has happened to their boats on the Broads.

I wonder if the staff at Horning are keeping it quiet so they are still getting paid! !

Imagine what a customer would be told when they have booked a holiday and paid a deposit , "Sorry the base at Horning is closed and we don't have any boats there now"

    Ooops

  4. Just been away to read my E-mails And I have received one from Le Boat which tells me that I can hire either an Admiral or Emperor class of boat from Horning next year. It even quotes hire prices!

I am wondering if HW know there has been a mutiny and they have taken all the boats back when no-one was looking.

Also does Clive know that he could have squatters.

  5. I thought I was about right as I cannot imagine it would be able to get through Wroxham or Potter bridges at 13ft.11ins beam.. Having said that there in no indication that I can find in the Hoseasons brochure to say it will not go through these bridges.

  6. Just had a look in Hoseasons brochure and the website and Broom Captain is shown as 35ft x 12ft 4ins on both. However, BROOM COMMODORE  is shown as 43ft 3ins  x  13ft 11ins. I find this a little difficult to understand as I thought all other boatyards had to keep to a maximum width of 12ft 6ins.....or am I wrong?

  7. Maybe someone will correct me if I am wrong.  Don't Hoseasons/Blakes or Wyndham (whatever name they want to go under) still charge the boatyard a booking commission even if the boatyard take the booking direct and just inform Hoseasons that the boat is no longer available for hire for that week?

  8. Totally agree with you BroadScot even though I can find errors in the Richardsons brochure it is far superior. When you look at the poor quality of the Hoseasons sales brochure it is no wonder that boatyards are leaving them and doing the job themselves AND saving a lot of money at the same time by not having to pay a SALES commission to an organisation that appears to know nothing about what they are trying to sell.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of bookings a yard like Richardsons get through Hoseasons compared with direct bookings.

I don't see Hoseasons offering loyalty bonuses like you can get through direct bookings with yards like Richardsons, Herbert woods and Ferry Marina !

  9. Mine dropped onto the doormat today.

My impression is " got to produce this brochure but don't know what to do".

I cannot understand the idea of producing a brochure which has some very nice photos of the local scenery but shows you what you are paying for in a postage-stamp sized photo. Also why go to the expense of printing it and not giving a proper price guide and assume that anyone who may be interested in a Broads holiday has access to the internet

The idea of the "Starboard First Class Fleet" is obviously one of the ideas stolen from individual boatyards (Richardsons, Barnes Brinkcraft,  Faircraft etc) It would have been more realistic if all the boats in the highest standard were included and not just if they are based in Brundall !!!

To me this looks like someone trying to sell something that they know nothing about.

Basically, as you may have guessed, I am not very impressed !

  10. CLIVE,

THANKS FOR THE REPLY.   HOW MANY REAMS OF PAPER DO YOU USE MAKING NOTES OF ALL THE LITTLE JOBS TO BE DONE?

ONE THING I HAVE BEEN PONDERING OVER IS WHY DID "HORIZON" GET REMOVED FROM THE NAME ON THE SIDES OF PEARL HORIZON?  NOW IT JUST SAYS "PEARL" BUT THE FULL NAME APPEARS IN THE BROCHURE.

I KNOW IT 'S BEING A BIT PICKY BUT THESE THINGS PUZZLE ME SOMETIMES.
