Not long after we'd returned to the boat, the pie man arrived. Ive experienced his wares before, so we bought a steak and mushroom pie and an apple and gooseberry one too. Tuesday night's dinner, sorted!
Any more info on 'The Pie Man'? I haven't heard of him before. Where does he hang out?

May I just check, is Langley Dyke now a complete no-go for overnight moorings?
That’s my understanding.

Poor Ole Parge
Simple answer please if I use the shore base tide table in 2024 do I add an hour on to the passage time through Yarmouth?
Kindest Regards Marge and Parge
Depends on the time of the year. When our clocks are set to GMT no, but March to October, yes.

So what if you start off and the tide direction changes pretty soon after you start off ?
Just askin’

some white posts have been set into the bank)
Yes, there does seem have been some effort this season to make boats feel a bit more welcome on Geldeston Dyke. Still a bit dicey when stepping off onto the bank (our son observed that you can’t necessarily tell where the bank ends or where you will just step off inadvertently into the river) but we can’t expect miracles.

Is it the meds or the diet?

I’m not sure, if I recall correctly I was a whiner and a moaner in my 20s.Goodness knows how Graham put up with me. Mind you, I seem to recall him doing his fair share.

I’ve been watching one of Dave Whitworth’s July vlogs, going upstream from Ludham Bridge where he spotted a sign stipulating there was a section reserved for boats under 20’. Is this true? Has anyone else spotted it?

Thanks for pointing it our Malcolm. I overlooked that detail. I’ve been used to adjusting their sunrise/sunset times to BST but the tide times used to conform to BST.

My favourite comment…

I'm so glad. I tried to create my own, but was way out in my calculations.

That's very sad news.

Bungay?!
Thats not even on the ‘official’ navigation! Dave does go above and beyond though. I have a hankering to visit Bungay. -

Hi all I just came upon this via a search as I am a single Dad having the same issue - so rang Brinks who said we are OK to book. I have a lot of narrowboat experience including working at a boatyard (a long time ago) but none on the Broads - daughter is 15. Looking forward to thanks for the tip.
At least you won’t have locks to contend with, and presumably 15 year old daughter will know her ropes! The main thing on the Broads is to take the tides into consideration. If necessary, turn around and moor against the tide, so you have more control of the boat. The ‘Aweigh’ app is a great help with tides. If you are thinking about going from north to south (or vice versa) read advice beforehand, either in the free Broadcaster paper or here:

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to produce a Broads holiday tale this year. Last October I had the opportunity to forgo my rag and stick roots and do a short cruise on Moorhen, which I thoroughly enjoyed. However with time in the UK being severely limited it looks as if the only UK boating I will mamnage this year is a three day cruise on the Lancaster Canal with my cousin. We plan to take a trip through the countryside where our shared family have their roots.
We aren’t ‘exclusive’. A tale from the Lancaster canal would be very welcome, thank you. (I’ve posted our ‘other tales’ under the Members out and about section previously).

I’m hoping to get round to doing one again this year, it takes up a fair bit of time but also nice to look back on. Currently aboard Tideway from HPC, our last day tomo
Looking forward to your tale! I know how much time it takes, as I probably overdo it. The reason I do it probably chimes with yours…it’s nice to look back on.

It’s that lovely time of year when we are lucky enough to have more holiday tales being posted. However, I’d just like to encourage new posters. It’s so lovely to hear new perspectives from people that might not have posted before. Short or long, we don’t care, we just like to hear how you enjoyed yourself (or not!).

That shed looks like a sort of Tardis. Looks tiny when stood in front of and inside just goes on and on.

I once spent a February Monday to a Friday in Keswick doing, of all things, an ILM Leadership course. One day was dedicated to counselling skills which we got intensively taught in the morning. They then took us to Buttermere in the afternoon for a walk along the lake and back. We were paired off to practise counselling skills on one another whilst walking. I suppose you could argue you could do that just as well whilst walking as being stuck indoors.
It was a good course though, and it was refreshing to do that in pleasant surroundings rather than the usual anonymous training centre or hotel.

How customer friendly is that? Is someone deliberately trying to prove that buses aren’t viable by making it so confusing that people can’t find the right stop?

I enjoyed our experience on an electric boat from Whispering Reeds a few years ago, so quiet in comparison to the normal engines. The only downside was that it the smaller day boats are quite 'snug' at the helm. Quite a squeeze, but I imagine that's the case on all the day boats that size, whether electric or not.

And only a short Board Walk walk away from the staithe.

I can understand not getting a signal in Horning, but not getting a mobile signal when you step out of John Lewis in the centre of Milton Keynes is a bit much! I even tried walking back through the store to the other side. Still no signal.
I had agreed with Graham I’d phone him when done with shopping this morning. I very rarely go clothes shopping, but had regretfully decided I need a new dress for this weekend. I have a dress I would like to wear…only it’s got a bit tight (I’ve grown, but not in the right direction). Not a good look.
I had to walk down part of Campbell Park, below the city centre, before getting a phone signal. So Norfolk, you are not alone!
On the other hand, I did manage to buy a dress in the John Lewis sale.

Always lovely to get a glimpse of Moonlight Shadow, even when it’s not us aboard.

Ooh! Cheesecakes too! Unfortunately, we won’t be on the Broads again until November, so I’m guessing the pie man won’t be around then.
Maybe next year.
