Glad you found a good spot, it sounds a lovely way to spend Christmas to me!
Great photos too 🙂

That must be it, the logistics of deliveries etc. must be interesting!

Not sure about the Mayfair, I still wonder where the land access is! 🙂

Best wishes for a long and happy retirement Andy... best thing I ever did 👍

Many thanks to all who run the forum for the benefit of us all. Including of course all those who have passed on the baton this year - Thank you

No one has mentioned the one problem with that (for me anyway) If someone is watching it all goes to hell in a handcart, if no one is around every manoeuvre goes perfectly and would satisfy HM Admiralty lol

On my first, or one of my first, hires it was a long time ago... a wonderful old chap, weather beaten and clearly a very experienced helm told me "make haste slowly" said in a full lovely Norfolk accent.
It was very good advice 👍

It's a shame so many plans have gone awry - to add to the list my nephew, his wife and son planned a cruise in the sun for the Christmas break. The day before they were to leave they had a phone call from the school, the boy tested positive!
No cruise!

I've always had first class jobs at good prices from Sutton Staithe Boatyard.

That's fantastic! Beautiful work Grendel 👍

That's good of you to offer, thank you 🍺 I think though that it would be more than I really need. Just a speedo is more my level of competence 😂 I'll leave the dark and the fog to you braver helms 👍

Brian Wards do indeed have them too 👍

My crew would tackle me to the ground and tie me up if I tried to cross Breydon in fog 😂

That would be handy! They are really helpful there 👍

I'm thinking of installing one, at the moment I use my cell phone and an app. Has anyone any recommendations for a particular make/model?
I would quite like a standalone that I can recharge between trips by usb but am happy enough to hardwire one if that is a better or more accurate option.

but we are now thinking, why should we bother if so many people are anti-vaxers
You booked it because you already know it's the right thing to do 👍
Anyway, who'd want tobe associated with anitvaxers and other assorted covidiots? 🙂

I have an nhs letter confirming I have had 2 vaccinations, is there going to be a letter confirming you have had the third jab.
Your vaccination record is confirmed on the NHS App, if you don't use the App then the card they give you when you have it done is proof. I'm sorry I don't know about letters confirming it, I never received one.

The ones who don't get caught are the only ones that are illegal immigrants,
Really? - So the ones who arrive in dinghies / boats and get 'Caught' are perfectly legal immigrants are they? I never knew that. Why would they need 'Catching' if they are legal immigrants?
The rest are refugees, asylum seekers and economic migrants.
Refugees and asylum seekers from France? - There it is again - Of course they are - I didn't know the system had reclassified them to suit some folks ideals
They may have arrived illegally - You want to make your mind up, did they or didn't they arrive illegally? only the ones that are caught or not?
but they are in the system and deserve to be treated with the dignity we should afford every human being in distress - This one I can agree on
Griff
I see what you did there 🍺
It has been said that no one ever changes their mind because they read a different point of view on a forum. I think that's true and so as we have both posted our views let's agree to disagree... Merry Christmas Griff 🍺

I doubt even the customs guys know the true numbers as they only know the ones caught, they too can only guess at the numbers in an empty washed up raft.
The ones who don't get caught are the only ones that are illegal immigrants, they can't actually claim anything officially. The rest are refugees, asylum seekers and economic migrants. They may have arrived illegally but they are in the system and deserve to be treated with the dignity we should afford every human being in distress.
Are there people born and bred here who are poor, sick, homeless? Of course, but don't believe for one second that blocking the English Channel would result in more resources for them!

whilst they are being used as a daily taxi service for the illegal immigrants landing on our south shores daily
Well, you're right about that being controversial Griff. Of course it's right that you decide what you do with your own money but even without my snowflake hat on the RNLI go out simply to people in trouble at sea. They rescued Germans during WW2 for example, it is only enough that a life is in danger and they will risk theirs to save it.
I agree with many of the arguments about economic migrants rather than refugees but there's no time to check credentials on a sinking boat!

@ MM Would you extend that to smokers, drinkers, sportsmen and women?
Quoting my own post because I can't edit it 🙂
Reading it back it appears confrontational, that was not my intention. The idea of paying the NHS for treatment of conditions which may be thought of by some as reckless or foolhardy has been mooted at different times over the years and I was interested to know whether adopting it in it's wider sense was part of Marshman's thinking when he posted.

A gun emplacement from WW2... or if not then that's exactly what they look like too. We have some on the dunes here, protecting our shores from the Luftwaffe!
