  1. The thing is though Vaughan while I absolutely agree with you about the need for BA reform the NBN is a discussion forum run by folks who freely give their time despite having real life day jobs and commitments, it's not really fair to ask them or expect them to pick up the challenge of becoming a campaigning group... imagine the work and the hours that would require!

  2. Having moved home moorings to the south last year I have access to the facilities at the wonderful Swancraft.

When out and about on a cruise though one doesn't always want to return home for water/pump outs etc.

There doesn't seem to be many obvious places to find these services though so if members would like to start and add to a list I'm sure I won't be the only one to benefit.... Thank youΒ  πŸ‘

I can start with Brooms of course! πŸ™‚

  3. Ian, It does but it won't get it I'm afraid, those figures are largely sums that will be spent elsewhere along the coast. Money will be found for GY the rest will keep get bandaids and temporary fixes, in other words Managed Retreat, there was some hope in a policy of Hold The Line but that isn't going to happen.

  4. Look at Happisburgh to see what the future holds for Hemsby and Winterton Ian. There are lots of committees and consultations and plans, no shortage of worthy investigations.. in fact the only thing in short supply is money.

So the platitudes and fancy names for giving up will continue until the day we are forced to pay to demolish our own houses and are relocated like internal refugees.

With age comes wisdom so I take a sip from everyone's pint before coming back from the bar.... it's the least I can do to stop folks from wasting beer! They'd thank me, if they knew I'm sure 🍺🍺🍺 😁

Balance. That is the very thing.

Getting on and off the boat. I feel so insecure, so vunerable and yet a few years past I was so confident.. Am I alone?

Not at all, it's something that creeps up on us all. Just a few weeks ago I read something about this by the NHS with some exercises and having nothing better to do tried them and I was genuinely shocked at how bad I was at them now as I always thought I had a good sense of balance!

  7. I'm pretty sure that everyone who has commented here likes to see people enjoying themselves, that's not really the problem, it's antisocial behaviour that ruins other people's enjoyment that's the problem!

  8. The article goes a bit over the top, the writer clearly has an axe to grind against all motor boats as a sail boat enthusiast.

Having said that, the problem does exist of course but depriving everyone of a responsible tipple while on holiday because of the bad behavior of others won't wash!

  9. Our first boat holiday was in the early 80s, we hired the cheapest (oldest) boat available and a lot of our first ever handover was about turning the greasers and checking the oil every morning and mopping the decks. The water pump failed halfway across Barton and we had to be recovered.

It was an adventure and we loved every minute of it and even though we were a young married couple we knew that somewhere in our future would be our own boat and living in Norfolk.

  10. And yet, up to a point, they are believable sadly. We can guess where both reviewers were talking about without trying too hard. It's not by any means all like that but that won't be obvious to people reading reviews.

I'm not sure there is any answer to the problem as sadly their experience represents today's society "enjoying themselves"

Have the Broads been mis-sold as a destination for so long that there is no turning back. If people came because it was "camping in nature on the water" rather than a "luxury yacht in Monte Carlo" It would improve for us that love it but possibly destroy local businesses.

  11. I have to say that I do support the application of the forum tos in this case. The report by the bbc above is very unhelpful in that a perception by a shocked and grieving relative must be taken in the wider context and not published before all testimony and evidence is heard, considered and summed up by those in possession of as much information as can be garnered.

We only have to imagine ourselves for a moment as one of those involved to understand the feelings and perceptions that inform their comments.
