For buying a motorhome you'd be better off waiting till foreign flights are unrestricted as the prices will likely plummet as all the ones snapped up last year come up for sale.

    That's what we were thinking.

We know what we want at least. Now just have to find it. The few that are currently for sale are too old (they vastly improved the spec from 2017 onwards) or have far too many miles on them.

  2. For the first time in a long time we have absolutely no idea what we are doing for holidays this year :default_blink:

Our Easter trip on the Thames has been cancelled and we had nothing else booked for the rest of the year. It will very much be a wait and see year for us.

We don't really want to book anything because we don't know when we will find the right motorhome for us.

If it starts getting a bit late in the year with nothing cropping up we will probably book a week on a boat on the Broads.

If someone displaying no symptoms (but has the disease) obeys all the guidelines, he/she will be unlikely to spread it. If however they behave like selfish do-dos then spread it they will!

Too many have tried to bend the guidelines to their own convenience, though it does seem to be fewer this lockdown.

I'm not sure how true that is. Someone with the virus can easily spread it around a supermarket for example not knowing that they are doing so and not breaking any rules. The same applies to public transport and facilities.

I agree that there are some bending the rules or blatantly ignoring them but I do believe that the vast majority of people have been following the guidance which is evident in the massive drops in new cases.

True, which is why the NHS is offering asymptomatic testing.  Have you been for such a test?

No I have not and I have no plan to either.

There are two local testing stations but they are for people who can not work from home. I can work from home so see no need to take a test.

Don't forget that all of this depends on people who normally behave like idiots, not behaving like idiots.  If people followed the lockdown rules, got themselves tested and quarantined themselves when asked and got their vaccinations when called, we will be out of this by the date on Jemaki's counter, if not before.  Why am I not holding my breath?

It is not quite so simple as that. If someone is displaying no symptoms then how are they to know that they should be getting tested or should be self isolating?

It is easy to blame other people and their behaviour but with a third of people who have tested positive displaying no symptoms it is difficult to isolate this group to prevent the virus spreading.

After June 21st can we all stay in your shed?

PS. I don't actually want to stay in your shed, I just want everyone else to stay in your shed so the rivers are clear for me....

They can stay in the shed or we have a couple of tents to choose from.

In fact, given how busy holiday accommodation is going to be this summer you might be onto something there...............

What was said was "no sooner than 12th april", it can change so don't jinx it.

    Very true.

Either way it is too late for our Thames trip so we are taking a full refund and buying a shed instead. We know how to live :default_laugh:

Interesting that the Stay At Home rule ends on the 29th March, though people should "try" to stay local. Sounds as though those with their own boats, will be able to stay on them from that date, before the self contained holiday lets open up. (Doesn't apply to me). Sure the BA will clarify.

No. If you read the details there are no overnight stays allowed until 12th April.

Others may have better knowledge than me. I think this boat is a bit too wide for the Ant or the Chet, and it probably won't get under Potter, Wroxham, Ludham, Beccles Old, or the bridges up to Norwich. It might not be the easiest of boats to have on the Broads but I could be wrong.

Which won't be a problem given it is going to Ireland :default_laugh:

All I want to do is check on the boat. It’s a hard earned , expensive piece of property that I’m worried sick about. Ive honestly got to the stage I don’t care about even staying on it.

If the news is right then day trips will be allowed from 29th March and the stay at home, stay local order will be removed so you should be able to see it then.

We had people last year trying to cancel because the pubs might not be open.

It's amazing how petty people can be. Are you coming on a boating holiday or a pub crawl? The two aren't irrevocably intertwined and if its not possible to have a good time without a pub, maybe there are cheaper ways to have a pub crawl than hiring a motor cruiser for a week.

You dont need to be on a pub crawl to enjoy a few drinks while afloat.

It has been suggested that self catered holiday accommodation, visits to second homes and boats etc would be allowed before hospitality reopens, possibly even as early as Easter. Lets hope so, much as I like a visit to a good pub, any easing of restrictions is better than none.

A lot of things have been suggested but until Boris announces anything tomorrow it is all just speculation.

I can’t believe you said that!

It is my opinion and we are all allowed one.

I don't see it as an enjoyable holiday if a large part of it won't be available.

Judging by how the previous lockdowns have been unwound it is a mute point either way as hospitality, holiday accommodation and pubs and restaurants have all opened at the same time each time. There is little to suggest that this time will be any different.

I suspect those hoping for an Easter get away are going to be deeply disappointed.

  14. We are due to pick up a hire boat on the Thames on good Friday. I would prefer not to be able to go if the pubs are going to be shut.

For us visiting pubs waterside and not is part of our holiday. As much as we like being on the water on the boats we also want to enjoy the towns and villages that we pass through and for us that includes the pubs.

Honestly I would rather Boris didn't open holiday accommodation for Easter if the pubs can't also be open.

From Le Boat: "This cost covers the fuel you use to power the boats engine and onboard systems (such as heating), engine oil, as well as gas and general engine wear & tear.

The per hour rate is £5 to £12 depending on boat and location.

Yes. It could actually be more for the boat we have on the Thames. I think the £5 might have been for the smaller boat we initially hired in Belgium.

Either way it works out much more expensive than any other boat we have hired. The most we have paid for a fuel deposit previously has been £150 and we got £60 of that back after a week. That was on Swan Ranger from Richardsons and we did a fair amount of engine hours running that week especially as the batteries were none so clever!

I really don't like Le Boats fuel pricing in the slightest.
