Thanks for the information Meantime.

Brilliant position taken by Barnes regarding the not giving hirers names. As it's a civil dispute I don't know if there is a requirement for them to supply the aggrieved party. In this case BA. DVLA should adopt the same position with robbing CCTV monitored car parks. Very interesting reading.

Thanks for the update Mouldy. I suppose its called progress. Everyone wants the last penny from every opportunity.

That's a rip off. You are spending your money locally so they should support the local businesses better by not charging for up to a couple of hours. NBD and Barnes Brinkcraft both allowed us to moor for nothing, when we had our own boat, in order to get some shopping.

The irony of this is obviously not lost on some.

It's always good to have a couple of electric cards just in case but most of the time the posts have enough left on them to see you through the night.

I hadn't realised Whitlingham moorings were closed. That's a shame. I enjoyed walking the dog around the lake. Am I right in thinking that there was a shuttle boat from Whitlingham to Norwich.

We enjoy just meeting people at a mooring. Chewing the fat for half an hour and sometimes spending a couple of hours with people who you click with over a bottle of wine and some nibbles.

I don't think it's that hire boats are too expensive, it's that a broads holiday represents extremely poor value for money by modern standards.
We often discuss this at work, we'll be in Hoveton sitting down having a brew on the barge, looking around and asking, what is there to do here?
👍
Your first sentence seems to be a contradiction. I love hiring boats but I think it is expensive.
We all look for different things in the broads but I never sit on the boat and wonder what there is to do. For me it's a magical place. The quieter the better.
I can understand new boaters not knowing all of the places to moor but there is enough not to get stressed about it.

They should expect it to be stolen then they would take appropriate steps to stop it happening. Its a very common theft I'm afraid to say.

Having no go areas for paddle boards on the broads is making me me smile. Have you ever thought you may be looking at this from the wrong perspective. Can you imagine the uproar on here if there were more no go areas for motor cruisers so that row boats, paddle boards, swimmers, wind surfers blah, blah, could use the rivers free of all of the danger. Live and let live is what I say.

Lovely picture of Cantley. I need my own boat. This lovely weather is driving me mad.

If you want pampering, stay in an hotel. If you want self catering, hire a boat. If you want all the home comforts of home... stay at home.
People should embrace the differences of living on a boat, not override them.
I used to say that to my missus. It's a boat and comes with some compromises. It's about making the best of what you've got. And modern boats are hardly roughing it. As kids in the early 70s I remember the boats not having much at all. A game of cards was good enough.

Great story. It doesn't always work out. I tracked an old friend who I hadn't seen for 35 yrs. It was a weird experience meeting him. I won't go into details but I probably won't see him again.

Great pictures. Enjoy it you lucky people. Nice boat as well.

The diesel heater is an interesting take on the noise issue. I remember being at Ranworth and the boat moored next to me had the diesel heater on most of the evening. It was very noisy but people need to keep warm I suppose.

There is nothing worse than an engine droning away till the later hours. 8pm is more than late enough. Poor planning in some cases and complete inconsideration in most.

Thanks for posting the updates and pics. These tails seem to keep me going when we aren't there. Very misty this morning by the photo.

I'm following this with great interest. I love Upton dyke as a moorings. I am very envious of you all who are enjoying this weather on the broads.

I've just said to the wife what a great week to be on the broads. Its what I miss about owning a boat. Just dropping everything and away we go.
Mind you, being retired completely means we can enjoy the sun in the garden (too nice to be at work).

You are in for some nice weather over the next few days.

That concrete staithe at Reedham always put me off mooring there when I had my own boat. Good job by the warden.

It is an Exige Bluebell. It's the lowest powered one Lotus made in this shape but still very quick. Too quick really.
They are not easy to get in and out of which is the big difficulty for some people. Especially when the roof is on. But there is a knack to it.

That is the one. They have been fairly bulletproof since 2004 when they changed to Toyota engines. Not really much else to go wrong. The build quality leaves a bit to be desired mind. I love them.

Going back to the bridge situation. I don't think there will be any changes to Wroxham, Potter or Yarmouth in our lifetime. And quite right too. I look at the size of some of the modern hire boats and i can't believe what I'm seeing. Along with the lack of pilot experience, it's crazy. As for less hire boats on the river at this time of the year. All the better for you privateers. Sorry Ricko. No offence intended.
