  1. Can I ask a question about twin engines. Is it normal when on the rivers to use only one  engine alternately or do you alway use both together all of the time. Sorry to ambush the thread slightly.

  2. If you are going along the Waveney you have got a bridge at St Olaves and a rail bridge at Somerleyton. Like the northern broads there are plenty of places to moor. Get a Broadcaster paper it'll give you lots of info.

If you are going up the Yare you have a rail bridge at Reedham and then no bridges till you approach Norwich. Again lots of places to moor.

The big difference is the tidal flow of the southern broads. Moor using long ropes and just have your wits about you a bit more.

Beccles is nice but will be very busy. If you can get under Beccles bridge the river is lovely as you leave the town towards Geldeston.

  3. Going back to the earlier posts it looks to me like the local authority will take control of the Horning moorings in 2025 and place a daytime time restriction on all boats. A bit like a limited waiting or disc parking with a car on the roads.

Hopefully this will not happen and the BA will renew the lease with no change to the current conditions.

  4. Hi SwanR,

We've had our week on Bella Maria 1. The boat was nothing less than fantastic. It is by far the best boat I've ever stayed on. Complete comfort in every aspect. Huge bed which suited my bad back. Masses of cupboards and 3 wardrobe type lockers in the bedroom. The bathroom was a proper bathroom very large for a boat with a full size separate shower cubicle with glass door.  No compromise had to be made whilst using the facilities. Electric toilet design was brilliant. It appeared to use quite a bit of water but to nothing excessive looking at the water usage. We had a pumpout after on the 5th morning as advised by the boatyard but there was no sign of needing one if you know what I mean. Galley and saloon were as per most bathtub boats. The saloon seats were bigger in the seat than other boats we've been on. A great boat overall which I will be using again I hope.

  5. I was planning on having a night there this week if Breydon water is open. We always used it as a stop over before going to Beccles. As said it was interesting watching the campers come and go. The pub was OK and we enjoyed walking the dog around the field next to the church.

  6. We've just come home on Friday from a week on Goosander. Today I've booked a week on Bella Maria starting on Friday coming. We've got to make the most of everything while we can. I've always liked the look of the Haines Bure 36. Really looking forward to another week on the broads.

  7. The Haines Bure 36 is the ultimate 2 berth broads boat. We looked at Borelo, another Haines Bure 36. It was described as a luxury apartment on water and that's exactly what it was. Fair Lily was only for sale for a couple of days. I'm hoping to book it in September.
