There's also clubs at Olney and the Stewartby clay pits.. The Stewartby lake must be a lot more pleasant now you don't have the brickworks smoke blowing across the lake.. .

We were Originally at Dovecote lake which is the one Nearest the M1, but that had permission for motorboats, so we got turfed off of there to move to Haversham, and they built a brand new clubhouse for us. A couple of years later someone bought all the lakes off ARC construction who dug them for gravel to construct the M1..

That person then put in for planning permission for golf clubs hotels etc, only to be told it's green belt NO chance.. So he was in difficulty, so he offered the clubhouse and lake to the club for IIRC £140,000.. The club accepted the offer and then got a grant from the lottery for £100,000...

So now the club is one of the most financially secure in the country, owning their own facilities and sailing waters. Most clubs are on rented land and don't own the waters..

I was on the committee at the start of the above.

The Milton Keynes club had great difficulties, they were on Willen Lake and had their club house sold out from under them, which became a commercial watersports centre..

Sounds a prudent bit of business.

At least boats cannot get bigger if they want to use the whole system - 46' is the maximum for the smaller rivers! As for the hull, could be going to Clive's!!

Being a newbie interested in your statement of 46feet. Surely at 46 feet the height is too much for the vast majority of bridges?

I agree with Marshman. Toys for the Boys spring to mind.

Been on the Broads and rivers for a few years. I have always known where I am. Where I have been. Where I am going. Never been nicked for speeding. Not even an an advisory, or  a wave of the round baton jobby. As for running aground, I would be ashamed. I would not know where to hang my head. Oh, and by the way, I have never fallen in! Capsized yes, but that's not counted. An act of God.

Go forth with courage and conviction. Keep away from chandler's and doom mongers.

Save myself some brass then if I went the new boat route then and kept it basic.:1310_thumbsup_tone1::1310_thumbsup_tone1::1310_thumbsup_tone1:

And of course, if you are going to stay on the Broads and rivers all those three things are absolutely vital - not!!

And more importantly, will add little to the resale value!!!

Its a bit different if you intend going to sea when they would actually be used - and of course other things you have not mentioned!!

On the Broads - of passing interest only!!!

I would have thought an indication of speed would be handy so as not to break the speed limits.

  5. Yes I know boat wanted is a bit of vague and loose ask. To be more specific what I am looking for is a cruiser of around 30feet capable of going under the vast majority of bridges.

There are certain requirements such as minimum 4 berth, be nice to have double that could be made up and left like that without getting in the way of day to day operations.

I am not after a renovation project , as I have enough of these going on as it is.

Have caravanned in the past and see the boat I want as like a caravan minus wheels.

Age is not a great concern if she looks nice and has a few mod cons. If something came along bigger than 30feet I would not dismiss it out of hand.

I know a lot of this is still a bit vague but I have to start somewhere.  Price I would say can be up to £60k more if warranted.

  6. Being Mr Newbie hope this is correct section to post this. In the market for a boat, new or used as yet undecided. One question I have as regards new boats is the pricing of add ons. Not naming the manufacturer but I have prices for add ons that look to me way more  than the sum of the constituents. For example of a 30ft boat to add GPS, speed and depth is approx £700. Now looking up what parts are needed to arrive at this with identical units they total around half. Am I just being tight fisted in my views?

  7. Suppose as am a new member only courteous to say hello, so Hello:default_biggrin:  Looking for a boat for Broads usage around 30 ft maximum. I have feelers out for new and old

I will post a question regarding add ons for new boats and their pricing soon.
