Hallejuaha she runs Still unsure what the issue was. My dad and bro went down to try and get it running and did the same procedure i did, but where i gave the carb a little tap with a hammer, they hammered it for about 15seconds. Wd40 in the sparky holes and they got it up and running. After sitting in neutral for 20 mins they did a quick test of the gears while tied to land and they say it runs a dream. Tomorrow i'll be taking it for a lap around the island so hopefully it'll be all good. Once again thanks for all the advice forumites Branden

UPDATE: Tried all the suggested things and none worked. Phoned the company i got the outboard from and after telling them what i tried they suggested that it must be fuel starvation and that it shouldn't be the pipes or filter as they all worked when they packed it for shipping. So they suggested that the pin in the carb must of jammed in transit. Sounds very likely as the engine was on it's side for a while and was layed on the other side by accident went put in the car to take down the boat. So the plan is to get my lazy brother to have a look as he's the carb man in the family. Hopefully he'll be awake when i finish work tonight at 7

Thanks for the replies everyone, im heading down the boat for a few hours before work tomorrow so will try each bit of advice 1 by 1 until the darn thing works I'll let you know what the issue is once i know. I had a thought that maybe my primer bulb was set the wrong way round so will check that aswell. Waanty, i filled the new fuel tank with a fresh load of petty from the garage, which was annoying as i had 22l of pre mixed two stroke in the old tank. Once again thanks forumites

Checked the sparks and they're doing their job. The reason they were wet is because i was trying the pull start for ages. After cleaning them i left it an hour before trying again.

Came from swansea via pallettways. I have a back to base warranty but would have to pay to send it back. Would take longer than a week.

Hi everyone, finally put the mercury on my boat today. Ran sweet in neutral but cut out when put into gear. Tried a few times and it kept doing the same thing. Now it wont even start in neutral. Have taken the spark plugs out and they were covered in fuel so cleaned then put back in. Still wont start. I've visually inspected prop, fuel lines, drive belt and sparkys and can't see whats wrong. Must add that it is a great condition outboard that has been fully serviced by the company i bought it from a few weeks ago. Any help and advice greatly appreciated as need to get the outboard up and running by friday. Thanks in advance Branden :

Hi everyone, thought i'd drop in a post on a subject i found quite interesting. Norwich city council have spent the last week cleaning the river in norwich. At a cost of £3000 they've had access to a boat and a floating pontoon. Since monday they've been directly picking rubbish from the river and surrounding banks, clearing over hanging branches and the removal of graffitti. The area cleared is what i would class as beyond most visitors to the broads navigation as the work was carried out mainly from bishopgate bridge all the way round to the end of navigation. Hopefully the clean up could mean the start of some action after varied discussions on how to turn the water into a real feature of norwich tourism. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for any new moorings and water taxis (2 of the suggested ways to improve tourism). Kind regards Branden

Little update. Received a pallett today containing the new motor Have to rate Jones Boatyard where i bought the outboard. Threw in free delivery, some freebees and instructions on the maintenance of it. Just waiting for a sunny day (fingers crossed) then i can fit it on the boat. Looks like i'll make the meet

The problem seems to be that they want to keep the broads idylic so that people want to visit it and therefore the tourism boosts the economy and business's surrounding the broads. But to keep it idylic, they have to keep the number of boats down. If they had there way, all boats would be put on trailers and removed after every trip. The hire companys have no choice but to pay the higher toll as their livelihoods depend on it, hence the price hike. The small boats, canoes etc do have the choice to say bugger it i wont use the broads anymore and take their vessel out of the water , so the ba have to keep them sweet with lower tolls. It will always come down to the richer pay more, it's the common sense approach. But as the ba will eventually realise, there are other factors which always come into play. As you say, higher tolls = higher hire price. Then those will less money wont be able to even afford to hire. In that sense everyone ends up paying more.

Hi everyone, whilst looking through ebay i found this up for grabs. I've seen the boat For Sale on another website for around £4000 and i've got to say i'm a bit confused. A new canopy for my boat would cost 3x the price i payed for the boat. A properly done canopy really finishes off a boat nicely and is very much an investment in the boat. I however am merely trying to keep the rain off my head. If i knew i would be keeping the boat for a long time i would invest in a professionally made one, but knowing me i'll upgrade to a newer boat in the next year or two. Sunbrella would of cost me about £200 but this vinyl cost just £62. My current canopy is made of the same vinyl and it's still waterproof but all of the stitching has failed leaving it fairly useless. Thanks for the link btw. May have to send them an email for a quote. Stranger, yes it's the same sort of material. The idea is to blow hot air into the vinyl to melt the two sections together. As you said it's easy to burn, thats why i would nt want to buy a gun and try it myself.

Hi everyone. The material turned up today for my boat cover, pvc vinyl. My question is, what is the best method for bonding the material to itself. I was thinking rf welding but would need to find somewhere in norfolk which could do it at an affordable price. The other option i know of is chemical bonding. The idea is to avoid any stitching. Not sure if any forumites have used either method or could recommend any companies? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Branden

Hi guys, i was talking to my friends brother who turns 16 in a few days about going on a fishing trip before the season closes. He mentioned that he only pays £5 a year currently but has to fork out about £72 when the next season rolls around after his birthday. I was wondering why on earth the price increases so much when you get older (until retirement age that is ) ? I think i pay around £30 a year for mine. My second question is, is there a way to license a boat for fishing so that all occupants of the boat can fish with the same license. I go out alot when the weathers nice with mates fishing and they normally buy a day pass but when i get my friends down from my home town they throw caution to the wind and go license free. That's their choice but when they're on my boat it reflects badly on me, hence if there was a license to fish for everyone on my boat it would save a lot of hassle.

As a fellow beginner having only fished for pike twice and only landed 1 safely I'd be interested in any updates and advice you come across as you gain experience. Having been out on the boat and fishing as much as i have, i regulary see pike anglers but have never seen any actually catching anything. It'll be cool to see more pikechaser69 posts in the future and try and get some photos uploaded when you catch the bigger beasts. : Good luck mate

Good to hear, i'm awaiting better weather then heading down for a spot of piking. Bought all the extra bits for my tackle box for predator fishing a couple months ago and not had a chance to try any out yet.

Hi Andy, i got the outboard working the day after i snapped all the various parts. I didn't know you guys at freedom worked on outboards. May have to bring it along for a service in a few months time. Funds are a bit low at the minute after accidentaly buying a stereo for the boat.

Hi everyone Thanks for the advice. Looks like a little hoover is the way to go. Generally i'll only buy something for the boat if it'll have at least 2 different uses so sucking the air out of the bags and sucking up dry mud and sawdust is good enough for me I'll stick to my sponge and hand pump for cleaning the bilge.

The police were busy along riverside today. Whilst they were dealing with this, there was a car crash on the same road. We were suck in the car a while waiting to get past. Does anyone know the story behind the 4 boats constantly moored at riverside? They've been there everyday for the past 3 months. I bring this up because i saw hypothermia mans boat moored with the other 4.

Hi everyone. I got some vacuum seal bags from qd yesterday. Cost me £1.80 for the large one and £1 for the small one. The large one can fit a double duvet in and after sucking the air out with a hoover it's shrunk it down a treat. My question is, could i use an electric bilge pump to suck the air out of the bags as i won't have a hoover available everytime i want to re pack the duvet. P.s i'm amazed they work as well as they do. No more mouldy bedding (hopefully) on the boat. Thanks in advance Brandenjg

In theory i agree but i had been looking and bidding on outboards for a few months and they've all gone for £600 plus. This is ebay within 50miles of norwich. Plently of cheap ones miles away but wouldn't want to have to rely on using a courier.
