  1. Hi MBA, I've got an inflatable tender with a 2hp on the back so access isn't a problem. I saw a crane and two cars on the island opposite the town house pub today, not sure how they got there though. If no one else gets back to me, if you could pm me the number that would be great
  2. My heavy duty tarpaulin and ply turned up today Ive installed the worlds shortest door (Its about 2 foot x 2 foot). The plan is to use the tarpaulin and wood to seal the cabin area but to have the option to extend the tarps over the rest of the boat aswell. I WILL ADD PHOTOS WHEN FINISHED I've also made up some slats for when i want to sleep in the boat with an inflatable mattress. Most importantly of all, I cleaned up my camping cooking set so now have a frying pan, 2 pots, a grill and a KETTLE : to use on the boat. Not long left now till i can get on the broads
  3. Hi everyone I'm looking for a mooring and live 10 minutes walk from thorpe green. I was wondering if anyone on here has any contact details of the person in charge of moorings on thorpe island and a rough idea of annual mooring costs for a 14ft boat. Any help would be greatly appreciated
  4. Hi everyone I've just ordered 2 Berkley quick set rod holders and i was wondering if anyone on here has used them (or similar rod holders) before. I'm not sure if you can leave the rod in the holder when you have a pike on the line for example. Would be good to know if they're good enough to risk losing a valuable rod and reel
  5. Exploring sounds good . I've been reading up on breydon and i think I'd be fine to cross it into yarmouth. It costs me £60 to trailer a boat one way so it's not really an option
  6. Hi everyone I was wondering where in norfolk you can travel by boat, starting in norwich. When I've looked on google maps you can see the river leading in various directions e.g to fakenham? Is it even possible to follow the river that far. I've travelled Norwich to Brundall so far on a tender + a hire boat from Wroxham to Yarmouth but i don't know much else. Is there anywhere which is well worth a visit. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
  7. Hi everyone As some of you may know, I recently bought a mayland boat which hasn't seen the water for 4 years . When I bought it the poor thing had a crack in the deck, no windows or rear plug and a very shoddy paint job on the inside. Well when the sun shines as bright as today there was only one thing to do, Start the fix up . The first job was cutting and fitting some perspex windows, 3 to be precise. All i can say is when your jigsaw only has one power mode which is hard and fast, DO NOT USE IT ON PERSPEX!!! I managed to shatter the first window shape so had to fibreglass attach an extra 9 inches out of an old bit i had to make a whole window. The rest of the windows worked lovely with a stanley and a good cut they all ended up as rectangles. Because of the issue with the jigsaw i decided the windows would be easier to bolt on rather than using proper rubber window trim. The windows are bolted all the way round with weatherproof foam trim to allow movement in the perspex and around the bolts and then covered with marine silicione sealant. The second job was painting the cabin area. I decided to go for light grey Blakes deck paint which looks so much nicer than the dark grey it was currently painted. I've done the walls and sides leading to the seats. I've left the roof and seats unpainted as they will be padded with foam and cream leatherette. The Cabin floor will be covered in splash vinyl black treadplate. The next job in the cabin was to make a cupboard door for the front section of the boat. Another annoying job as whoever built the boat must of had wonky eyes as one side of the storage opening measured 29cm and the other 31 so i had to cut the planks to accomodate. An easy job was fixing the sunroof so it wouldn't fly off in the wind, a couple of little catches fixed to the fibreglass work a treat. Now for the back end of the boat. The most important job was fitting a new draining plug as a hole below the waterline is definately a no go. That took about 10 minutes using marine epoxy, silicone and a couple screws. I managed to pick up something from my local hardware shop for 60p which is ideal for tying ropes to( I will upload pics at some point) which I've fitted 1 on each side of the back of the boat. The last job of the day was de rusting and painting an old anchor which I've had in my room since i was about 8 or 9 which I'll use like as a rhond anchor. So for now that's everything, all that's left is making the open cabin closed using marine ply and canvas, fitting the cabin vinyl and a few niggly bits and the boat will be ready for water . Then it's time to find an outboard and a mooring
  8. After paying £10 extra for a number plate and having the winch wire slip a few times, we finally got the boat home safely 1st job today was filling a couple cracks which are now sorted. Thanks for all the kind and informative posts Now let the restoration project begin :
  9. The trailer itself was £28 to hire then im paying £30 for the person with a tow hook. Double my budget, but if it means I get the boat I can't really complain
  10. No stretched arms for me. I've found a company in norwich that rent boat trailers and after ringing round every person in my phone book, I've managed to find someone with a tow hook who's towed boats before. It's fair to say Happy Days, as will be picking the boat up this saturday
  11. Hi everyone Are there any rules/laws regarding carrying a boat along a road? My friends have agreed to help me carry the boat if i get it. I'm thinking if we all were hi vis jackets we should be alright. I've found this is the only cost effective way to transport the boat. Walk it to the river at surlingham, find someone or use my current boat to tow it to norwich then drag it out of the water and carry it to my house. Simples
  12. Hi everyone I'm looking to buy this boat but it needs "a new coat of anti fouling paint" It's currently only been used freshwater but if i get it I'll also be using in salt water, so what would the best paint be to get. I've never dealt with anti foul paint so I'm not 100% sure where to buy or what brand, so any advice would be greatly appreciated :
  13. As i said hiring a trailer wouldn't work. I'd have to buy a car with a tow hook first Think I'll have to get a few friends together and carry it to the river and get a day toll on it (so it's legal till i get it home on dry land ). It weighs between 100- 140 kg so should be an easy job. Thanks anyway for the comments
  14. Hi everyone I'm waiting to hear whether I can buy a 14ft boat or not (It doesn't come with a trailer). I was hoping one of the many kind people on here might be able to pick the boat up for me if i do buy it, from Rockland St Mary nr Surlingham and tow it ( On a trailer) to Pilling park near heartsease. I would be willing to pay about £30 ( I can't afford any more). I would go to a hire yard but my dad doesn't have a tow hook on his car. It would be about 30 minutes work for £30 and i would be truly greatfull
  15. Little update, Boat is now tolled and insured with the motor but thanks to the marvelloues weather I've yet to go out on it . I did however go camping last week on the broads. Headed out on the inflatable at river green and after an hour, found the perfect spot. Built the tent and set up the disposible bbq, had a few beers and enjoyed the surroundings. The only issue was the morning was a bit nippy but otherwise all good. Went to morrisons (in norwich) for a full english then wandered home. Just a shame i could'nt do it again today
  16. It's right next to a rail bridge so i would'nt know if it would be ba or national rail I'd have to talk to
  17. Hi everyone On my small trips out and about I seem to be constantly finding sunken or very poor condition boats, I can think of atleast 11 of the top of my head. My question is how would i go about legally becoming the owner of one? I've seen a small rowing boat and a sailing boat i like the look of, but they have no tolls or names on them so there's no way i can think of to track down an owner. They've been sitting in their current positions for atleast a year that i know of. Because they're in this state i'm not sure whether i could class them as being Dumped environmental waste (so to speak) and could then clean the broads by acquiring one. Very unlikely but for some reason the ba haven't touched them, so there must be someone who knows the owners. Any advice on who to talk to would be greatly appreciated
  18. The rowlocks hook in just behind the frame so theres room to use them in an emergency
  19. I agree with Strowager, If you have the money it's well worth investing in a professional custom fit job, but when moneys tight a basic working version will have to do. On a brighter note I've attached photos of the finished bodge job
  20. Quick Update... I've finished all the frame work I've attached it to the boat using ring & pin system ( for the suggestion). Went to a camping shop an picked up the perfect size waterproof sheeting for £7. All that's left is attaching the sheet and some guy ropes tomorrow and the project will be finished
  21. I've decided my mission for this week is to finally get round to building a budget bimini for my inflatable Keeping with the "budget" theme I'll be using 22mm pvc piping rather than stainless steel or aluminium. Depending on how much it bends i may have to use something like expanding foam to strenthen the pipes. All supplies will be coming from B&Q, the piping will cost £8.97 and the 4 corner joints will come to £3.88 so £12.85 TOTAL for the bimini frame. Currently it looks like I'll be using a handy waterproof canvas hammock as the sheeting for the roof ( fingers crossed its already the right length as it will save alot of stitching) The only thing I've not fully figured out is connecting joints to the boat but i have a few ideas to test I'll keep you all updated with info and pics as the project progresses (or fails)
