  1. I've currently got a set on the boat, they last about 6 days in the rain till they become unreadable. You'd think the BA would of designed them better as within the 2 weeks of me buying a second set they had sold about 80 short visit tolls (all of which would be unreadble by now), but I guess it saves costs. Luckily I received a slip of paper with all the details of the toll which i keep in the boat incase any broads rangers come along.
  2. Hi everyone I'm trying to find the name for the type of metal effect in the photo attached. I've tried many variations on google and managed to stumble upon only 1 picture of what I'm after. I'm hoping to get a vinyl version for the boat floor as the "rotproof" carpet i originally used has now ... rotted Thanks in advance Branden
  3. Hi everyone Im taking the boat and tent and going broads camping on saturday. I was wondering if anyone knew of any pubs I could moor at for a few hours between Norwich & Rockland st Mary which will have the Haye v Chisora fight on. I'm only looking to watch the fight and have a pint before heading off to the camping spot for the night. Thanks in advance
  4. Hi Jonny, You can get them in poundland/99p store. 8 guy ropes (camo or glow in the dark) and 4 thick plastic pegs.
  5. Hi everyone My Mercury 4.5 outboard raises completely out of the water when i stick it in reverse. I was wondering whether anyone had any ideas as to why it's doing it and more importantly how to fix it. The reverse gear works fine and if i hold the motor down with my arm the actual reverse is fine. If i manually lift the engine there's a locking mechanism to keep it up and then a pin to keep it down but when i reverse it still raises up. For now im going to fix a rope so that it can only raise so far. No reverse is pretty annoying when my moorings stern on
  6. Haha yeah it is The boats being launched tomorrow at lunchtime The plan is to pick up dad at thorpe green, potter down to riverside then turn her round and head on over to the woods end for a celebratory pint. Grandads kindly donated a bottle of his home sloe gin for the launching ceremony. If all goes well i should be parking up somewhere for the night and doing some fishing before my mooring starts the next day.
  7. It's like most secret spots, if you know its location, you'll recognise it from the photo. If you don't recognise it from the photo you wont know its location. I must add that if you do recognise it please don't post its location
  8. The boats nearly there, just pretty work left to do We left the spot exactly how we found it, that way we can head back again and again. Heres a pic of the view from our tent.
  9. A couple more pictures. For those of you who remember the roof i made for my inflatable boat you'll be happy to know it can now be attached to this boat . Everything except for some finishing touches and fitting hand rails is completed. The boats being launched next tuesday so i'll have some new photos to upload then :
  10. Hello everyone Me and Aydan set out in a very packed inflatable boat yesterday at thorpe green ready for a night of fishing. We rowed down to our secret spot set up the lines and camping gear and within seconds he was in with a lovely 7lb bream. Throughout the night i was constantly on my feet reeling in small fish after small fish (16 to be precise) whereas aydan didn't catch another fish the whole night . There was a good hour without any bites when we saw a fairly nice looking pike skulking the area. A smart man knows when to quit, so out came the bacon rolls, a few beers then off to sleep Come morning we were back on the rods after a good 4 hours kip. This time we were both reeling in small fish after small fish. That was until once again the pike returned. Aydan jokingly put a pike hook on his line, not expecting to catch the sneaky bugger (no wire tracer or anything). Sure enough though, the second the line hit the water the pike was hooked : Unfortunately for Aydan, I'm not the type of person who fancies putting my hands anywhere near a pike so we had to try and land it using the poundland net As im sure you can guess i couldn't get it in the net. Eventually after trying and trying the pike broke free of the line (jumping out of the water and scaring the living stuff outta me as it shot towards my face). He swam off ready to be caught another day. Needless to say Aydan was fairly p***ed off with me for "losing" his fish, so after catching a few more littluns we decided to head home. Overall a good start to the season, and many more to come
  11. The only one i know of is harpers riverside swimming centre in norwich. Sits next to the river and has free moorings. Nice size swimming pool and also has a steam room sauna and jacuzzi
  12. Hi manko. I went to have a look at the bridge today and its gate is well and truly locked and barbed wired. It does however have a 3 digit combo lock so maybe once i'm moored on the island someone will tell me the combo. Or not. I've been reading up on the access and it seems that the problems are being sorted so fingers crossed.
  13. I wrote an update but it hasn't posted so I'll do it again. Thanks Jonny, the phone number was in call history. After phoning a few wrong numbers i eventually got through to the bloke. He explained that the plate had snapped off so he'd glued it inside the cowling. Sure enough after cleaning away some grease i found it glued in possibly the most awkward location. A flat head screwdriver and some 2 part epoxy later it's now glued back into place. Got quoted £61 for the insurance which is alot cheaper than i expected.
  14. Quick update. I bought the outboard. It's a pull start and came with an external fuel tank. I had to buy a new fire extinguisher which is up to full spec
  15. It has the 2 pins which hold the plate down but theres no scratches or damage on the paint or around the pins so doesn't look like a plates been forced off. I'm going to contact vodafone tomorrow as i phoned him off my mobile so they should be able to tell me what his number is.
  16. That's what i was thinking but i don't have the contact number for the bloke any more. I have his home address still saved in the sat nav but he lives 30 miles away. I wasn't sure if i went to the ba with his name and address they could tell me the engines registered number from when he's registered with them.
  17. Hi everyone I recently bought a 4.5hp outboard and have just noticed that the id/serial plate is missing. The man i bought it of said he'd had it for about 8 years and had a picture on his dining room wall with the outboard on the back of a boat so i can safely say it's not stolen. I've also checked online for the same engine and none are registered as stolen. My question is, is it possible to get a new id plate as i need the id number for the insurers. The engine has stickers under the cowling from where im presuming someone has serviced the outboard but no company name Any help would be greatly appreciated. The outboard is a 4.5 mercury 1 cylinder 2 stroke with a brown band (not the version with the blue band)

    needing advice

Hi Jonny, I can't advice on the bridge lift but i can offer an alternative. If you moor at ba public mooring on whitlingham lane it's a 5 minute walk to the old rectory where there's a bus stop. Any of the buses leaving from here will stop next to the train station. The park is called Whitlingham Country Park, They have a great centre which hosts various events and has sport equipment hire e.g sailing, archery, rock climbing. Heres a link to their website http://www.whitlinghamoec.co.uk/ Hope this helps
  19. Sold my tender today and am off to pick up an outboard tomorrow Not a big engine but perfect for pottering around fishing. Photo attached
  20. As far as i can tell because i'm not putting any cooking or wired electricals in the boat i only need one. The rating is 13b and certified BS 6165.
  21. Slightly off topic but i bought a fire extinguisher today for the boat. I'm just wondering if its up to bss standards. I've posted a link to the same extinguisher from another business. http://www.consumableitems.co.uk/google ... hicle-FM20
  22. Forgot to add the picture to the above post
  23. Thanks for the responses. I was thinking one of the things in the picture below. I thought jerry was a generic term for any portable fuel carrier, by the repsonses i realise i meant an external fuel tank . If i strap it on the front of the boat I'll have to run a fuel line to the back of the boat. Is this even safe? Would it be possible to strap it on the buoyancy tanks/seats on the boat as it would be outside the cabin but still within the boat?
  24. Hi everyone I've been reading through the bss guide and I'm confused about where to store a jerry of spare petrol. I was thinking on the front of the boat as it's outside the cabin but it would also be in direct sunlight. Any advice would be appreciated
  25. Thanks for all the kind posts As far as cooking on the boat goes, I'm considering buying a Cobb as i know all the safety issues invloved with portable gas stoves. Heres a link to the promotional video for the cobb. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... io6obL7hWg I've now acquired a mooring so the boat will be on the river on the 27th june There's still a few bits and bobs to get sorted on the boat including the bss but im definatly getting closer Heres a few pics of what i've been up to today Everything still needs cleaning and tidying up. As far as a names concerned, I'm sticking with what I've named all my boats plus an extra number..... Her name will be Dirty Sket IV. Shes the 4th in a line of "Sket" boats. I wouldn't like to explain the name on a family friendly forum
