I'm not an angler and don't have much knowledge on the subject, so could someone explain the offence of fishing for bream, please? If you dangle your equipment in the river, how do you tell bream to leave it, but others to have a nibble?
It is not an offence to fish for Bream in the Season but not in the closed season.

Hello Howard and Mrs Howard, welcome back to the Broads. One of my favourite moorings Hardley Cross. As you say when other boaters are not around a chance to run your engine, however, I think this is supposed to be Summer, a bit hit and miss at the moment though.

We only stopped for water and to dump our rubbish. Short or long stay it is good to have substantial to tie your rope to. Barton Turf or Paddys Lane , whatever it is known as , is a 24hr mooring.

Last week we called at the water point at Barton Turf and noticed that the mooring posts are really wobbly. I did mention this to the BA but they tell me it is a Parish responsibility. I have emailed them and let us hope they attend to them at some time in the future.

Sorry I know I ought to keep up but what is or who is PC please?

Well said Gendel , pontoon moorings all over the Broads would solve a lot of problems.

We had a trip to Oulton Broad on Saturday and I would say we passed no more the half a dozen boats mostly private. Coming back yesterday there was a few more including about 4 hire boats but it’s still incredibly quiet on the southern side.
May be the tides are still not favourable, they certainly were not in our favour on our week otherwise we would have gone South and to cross Breydon very early in the morning with the thick fog we had would not have been ideal.

I assumed that as not half term they would have all gone home. How wrong can you be.

Have just spent a week on the Northern Broads, yes the weather has been good, not exactly the temperatures we were promised but a darn sight better than we have had in the past, which usually included a named storm to boot. However, we were amazed at the number of boats on the river, it was like high season. Families (I thought the kids were at school at the moment) groups of guys , most of them , shall we say cracking on a bit, a couple of stag boats, the trips boats were full of holiday makers. Hundred of little day boats buzzing around. Together with yachts enjoying the breeze. Paddle boarders, canoeists. As I say it was just like high season and it isnt even the fishing season. It was fabulous. May be things are getting better.

We heard the Bittern booming at How Hill. Wondered what the noise was. It went on for ages. Also the cuckoo who was also at Wroxham Broad giving its all. We saw it fly from tree to tree.
Don't know about anyone else but feel cheated out of 26 degrees everyone else seems to be getting.

I heard today that the Post Office in Horning is now going to re-open as - wait for it - a Dog grooming salon. How ruddy useful is that to the elderly population in that area. Worlds gone mad.

Strange that they allow double mooring on their sites but after 6 years of occasionally double mooring my small boat next to Whitey on a very wide section of the Yare a ranger recently asked if I was leaving it there as it might be a hazard. The section of river is over 60' wide. 😎
Must be a new recruit as the rangers usually refer to it as my extension and have never had a problem.
There is always one!

Next question - how do you pay, card or cash these days for Water, and pump outs please?

As an update to the chains at Hardly Cross, the rangers were there this morning repair/replacing them. They said someone had falling in, but I didn’t realise it was you.
And yes the mooring is still very slippery and as a solo helm I WAS wearing a life jacket…😎
Good to hear that the chains have been replaced.

My thoughts exactly Jean. I was beginning to think may be Grendel had bumped his head yesterday, Easter Island figures, my first thought after as just said was, New Zealand is ruddy long trip from there.

Good morning Grendel - how are you today? Please let us know you are ok?

Grendel , you must be careful. For goodness sakes , what next. I mean yes , in the Summer but not now it is like the middle of winter. Hope you are now dry and warm. Honestly if I fell in , you would be having a collection for me. Sheer shock would kill me , especially on a mooring like Hardley Cross, gosh you do do pick em , dont you.

Hardly, just two us and we pump out after 4 days and we have two toilets. I think we contribute our share.

An old saying and true - when in Rome etc. I think people who arrive in this country forget that we have our rules as they certainly have in their own countries.
