It is by the Compleat Angler but that is a new name - can't remember the old one. The main station in Norwich (GER) has always been called Thorpe Station (except perhaps by Google). The others were the City Station, for the M&GN from Kings Lynn, which is more or less where Halfords is, on Heigham St, and Victoria Station, which was a goods station, now a big supermarket at the bottom of Queens Rd.

Thorpe Hamlet is on the western outskirts of Norwich, near Taverham. Nothing to do with Thorpe St Andrew.

My wifes cousin (Norwich born and bred) used to own and run The Old Gatehouse tea room on the old M and GN line at Gunthorpe.  A small signal box was still there in 2014 when we last visited.

  2. You just need the gelcoat filler to get the job done.  The PP stuff is fine but be prepared for a lot of rubbing down.  I used it to patch a small gelcoat chip in 2004 and I needed an electric sander to get it smooth.  It dries very hard, even in winter!

  3. We had a budget idea but from time to time it got exceeded when we thought enough money was available, only to struggle after after a downturn in our business!!

Overall, in response to the OP, our running costs for engine servicing, lift out, anti foul are not too bad for a 24 foot boat.  Drive leg service including lift out and back, around £350 every two years, engine servicing is done by me and a local buddy, cost of parts and beers plus dinner, not too bad at all.

As to the rest of money and time spent, well that is down to me poshing her up now and then.......thats me own fault :default_dunce:

  4. Gas propex is cheaper but does eat gas.

Looked into this option for us many times as it would be an easy fit but they do eat gas.  Diesel is really our best option but would cost more to run...long term though, less fuel used and overall much more efficient.

    What a load of c**p.

This only applies to the paranoid.

Indeed Lab!  I wonder how few of us founding members are still left these days.  Reading through this lot has made me realise what a bright, friendly, cheerful and helpful place this was back then. Nicknamed the "Bright side" for all the right reasons.

  6. Not nice in East Herts today.  Sat here wondering how much leccy we have on the post in Horning.  Put £50 on in late november but with the frost heater on 24/7 and thermo controlled oil filled rad in the cabin, we could be running low.  Marina staff not back yet so fingers crossed.  Pretty sure we can only buy the cards from Ferry Marina unless anyone can advise an alternative??  If anyone can, thanks in advance!

I wonder if the Highway Code might give some of us a clue about negotiating a roundabout?

In modern times Heron, it would seem that most drivers never read that book (or forgot what it said?)  To quote a police officer who stopped a friend of mine back in the early 70's ("sir when you passed your driving test did you read the Highway Code or bribe the examiner")

    Having driven a section.....

Ok which PRATT designed the roundabouts?.....

The roundabouts are 3 lanes, at the most any road coming into them has 2 lanes...

When you come onto the roundabout there is no Flow, if you are turning left it is a HARD left turn to go onto the outer lane.

When leaving the round about you have those who've done a hard left and those who are going to that exit  from the other entrances in the middle lane. How long is the merge area for the two? about a car length. I predict a LOT of accidents...

Proably the same P**** that came up with the Postwick Interchange!  Okay, I have been to the NNDR asphalt plant many times from the west and its a doddle, try from the east, I get lost on that junction.  When staying aboard back in July, to get to the plant I went to the A146 and turned back to head westbound..I swear it took less time!!

  9. Well, after my visit yesterday and also in early July for two nights, it would seem the milton has done its stuff.  I dosed the system after a full rinse in July and having not been there till yesterday, the water ran fine and no bad pongs, only milton. Her tanks are now empty in prep for winter so hope all is okay come 2018.  Thanks for all the suggestions, well received!
