  1. 40 year old engine mountings

Engine gradually (and un-noticed for years) lowered down until the prop shaft is silently rubbing on the side of the stern tube

    Result:-

Hole in stern tube (in our case a "shaft log" version of a stern tube) which is fitted completely inside the boat

  2. HELP

Are there any avid PBO readers out there that just have to own a huge glut of monthly copies of this mag.

I'm sinking under the weight of them, haven't even taken the wrappers off a lot of them and what's more they're still landing on my hallway mat every month.

(Yes I know that I should cancel my subscription).

No doubt there would have come a time when I would have enjoyed reading the odd article BUT thy're in my way and must go urgently.

FREE of course and for collection in Kent.

    Any takers?

  3. Here's a familiar sight in an unfamiliar place.

It's either one of Appleyard Lincoln's Elysian Mk2's or it's later equivalent, a J G Meakes Madeira 27AC (and it's pictured off Two Tree Island near Leigh on Sea, Essex in November 2018).

Many on here will be familiar with the 27ft Elysian hull (designed by Hugh Easton) that can be seen all over the Broads.

Hugh Easton lived locally (Lowestoft I think). He was admitted to James Paget Hospital in June 2016 after suffering a fall but sadly died soon afterwards in early July and was cremated later that month at Waveney Crematorium near Beccles Airfield. His legacy lives on in his well known designs.

No idea, but it's the least of the concerns at the moment. I'd hope it's closed and hope the marina owners will throw anyone off site that tries to access. Hopefully they are keeping an eye on the boat then again I hope they are Staying safe saving lives at home.

I suppose that there must be exceptions for liveaboards within marinas, since it is their home (and I for one am comforted that they are present with their eyes and ears open).

  5. I've just retired and I miss work already (mainly because I've now got to make good on promises to do all those major refurbishments and household repairs that I was "too busy" to do before).

I'm actually quite enjoying lockdown as I can't visit bathroom showrooms or DIY stores for a while.

I miss the Broads like mad but my wife's itinerary for me means that I would have suffered that same absence anyway (well mostly :default_smiley-angelic002:).

  6. Pharmacies all seem to have their own individual interpretations on how to instigate protective measures.

At my "in-laws" local pharmacy, physical access inside is restricted to just one person at a time (and only then barely inside, where there's a table from which you're served). The staff collect anything that you want from around the shelves and/or deal with your prescription before anyone else can enter.

Contrast that to the pharmacy where I've just been collecting a patient's prescription, where there's a couple of lengths of tape on the floor, 6ft apart. Approach the counter was past another customer at an adjacent counter (too close for comfort) in order to sign for and collect the prescription. I did however ignore the glass of biros provided and use my own in preference. I can't say that I was all that impressed with their system but like everyone else, I do thoroughly appreciate the "front line" service that they're providing.

Anyone remember Andy and Sandy that ran it in the 70’s?
I used to stay there when assisting our local service depot (Kelvin Hughes - Battery Green Road).
That’s when Lowestoft had a fishing fleet.

I helped with the washing up at night and ended up with Andy & Sandy offering me a live- in job!
I was based in Hainault at the time and on a very different career path.
