Those crushed concretes strips are certainly not wheelchair or mobility frame friendly.

Genuine question :  why cant they use solid paving or paving slabs ? (or am I missing something obvious here).

Get in touch with Tom, the BA rep on here, and ask him. He did say if you have any issues, he`s here to try and help.

Having now looked at the current listing of moorings it seems to vary between 10 and 12 meters depending on the length of the moorings ???

    Fred

So that would average around 34ft. Just goes to show how big the average boat on the Broads has got in modern times.

I assume that's why MY post was hidden?. No probs, and apologies if it caused any problems.

Anyone have any idea what size of boat they use to make the assumption that it is 16 mooring spaces? And how close do they have to be?!

    Hi Matt,

I would imagine the law of averages would apply, so possibly around 38ft. There are very few hire boats smaller than 32ft these days, however, when you consider private boats, that average could be down to around 30 - 32ft. If anybody has a more realistic figure, then I wilfully stand corrected.

  5. Great to see the BA doing all this work, please convey our thanks if you're reading this Tom.

The new moorings and visitor centre sound good, I can just imagine mooring overnight a going to the centre for a full English while watching Marsh Harriers swooping over the marshes.

The extra moorings and leccy at Acle Bridge will be welcome, but the dredging and maintainance of Candle dyke and Waxham New Cut are sadly not a given for Lightning, so we will have to hire one of Martham Boats finest for a couple of nights to explore the Upper Thurne Network, unless they raise that blockage of course?.

You see marshman, we Do applaud and give credit to the BA when they work hard on maintaining the Broads in the manner they are supposed to do.

  6. Yes, a loss of one of the greats. I was told years ago that he also spent time as circus acrobat, does anybody know if that's true?.

I also heard he was recently in a film with his son, AND his grand son. I don't think there's ever been a film or TV show that has ever had 3 generations of the same family before.

Again, I must say, with a few minor exceptions, you seem to be the only one bothered by all of this. On balance I am sure most people would prefer to see council employees more gainfully employed!! Each to his own though, I accept!!

Yes, I WOULD rather see them more gainfully employed, doing something useful for tax payer, rather than waste money putting up signs advertising a lie, purely to satisfy a devious dictatorial beaurocrat.

I like the NBN but reading other forum posts I'm afraid to be gunned down just for saying something simple, but something in the past has annoyed me with this topic. Many years ago a managers job came up for a firm I was working for and basically it was given to an assistant manager in the firm, but they had to follow protocol and advertise the position.

What angered me was the people who had taken time to answer to the position, possibly with no job at the time and not knowing that the position was already taken.

    DESPICABLE.

I hope the Broads Authority don't do this type of thing, as it's an insult to all applicants.

That reminds me of when i went for a job at Virgin Airlines as a cabin tech. I did the interview, and gave a true and frank view of myself, my attitude to things etc, and went home. I then received a letter saying i was unsuccessful at that interview, but was asked to re-apply in 6 months time. It turned out the position had already been filled internally, but they wanted people to apply so they  had an idea who would be suitable for what positions and could offer them a suitable position in the future.  I never did re-apply, the journey back from Heathrow to North Kent on the M25 was horrendous, so i decided against it.

    School, absolutely hated it.

    Me too.

Things i don`t miss, and there`s not a lot,  Asthma, being bullied, getting smacked because i was the youngest and always got the blame, having to put up with hand me downs from my brothers.

There are probably more, but i can`t bring them to mind.

  10. I miss the way life was in general, people were more responsible, more friendly, and would take responsibility for their own actions.  I miss having a large manufacturing industry which employed many thousands of people. I miss all the British makes of car, i miss the milkman, travelling grocery van, mobile butchers van, the shell fish man in the pubs. I miss the uncrowded roads, the ability as a child to ride a pushbike around the woods without somebody being offended, or thrown off for health and safety. I miss the fact that many years ago, it was`nt a crime to make a mistake. I miss the fact i could roam around this beautiful country WITHOUT being watched by sneaky cameras all the time. I miss the police actually being there for the public, and upholding British law, instead of doing their best to nick you when you HAVE`NT actually broken any laws, it`s very convincing when they say you`ve committed a "public order offence" then see you in court for nothing.  I miss the village shops, and the local shops in walking distance from your front door. I miss when parents walked their kids to school, and in all weathers. I miss haveing the freedom to choose, instead of being told "you have to". I miss the chance to say or do anything, or tell a joke etc, without some halfwit being professionally offended, and when men were men, women were women, and girls and boys enjoyed their innocence without wierd parents making them mentally f....d.

Generally, i miss a much more fun life, where you could live normally, and with very little stress. I never had to work 50+ hours every week just to pay the bills.

Modern life just sucks, that`s why it`s good to be a luddite.

    Hi all,

We receive a very high number of applications for all of our Ranger roles and this unfortunately means there's often a lot of disappointed people on the other end.

This isn't a 'box-ticking exercise' - the recruitment process is transparent and the same as all of our roles.

Despite the number of applications please don't be put off applying if you feel you meet the job description!

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

I live 250 miles away, so i don`t think i`l apply thanks, plus at 62, i`m too old.  It`s good to hear the BA are not looking for "the politically preferred" choice, so let`s hope the right person gets the job.

One question though, the advert DOES`NT mention anything about age or qualifications etc, it would be nice for others to know what exactly the right applicant needs re above?.

Agree 100%. I would`nt know where to start, let alone dig extremely deeply.  Thanks Paly

It`s a bit late now, but i will hopefully be able to add something tomorrow, though we`ll be busy clearing out a bedroom.

Just don't assume you would get this!!!

Both I,  and a number of others on this Forum, have been turned down in the past!!!!!

I clicked like because i`m not surprised at all. No insults or anything like that, but i would imagine you, and the others who`ve been turned down are NOT "the required type" of person they want to be seen to be doing "the right thing". The fact is Marshy, even though we often disagree on some things, i get the impression that you, and others on here that have also been turned down, have a great deal of experience in many ways re the Broads. Unfortunately, that counts for nothing where political motives are concerned. synical i know, but then, the pitfalls of life had made me that way, hence my total mistrust of ANY form of authority.

  14. Being an authority, by law, they have to offer it to all "minority groups" as well as "average" people, and will be "encouraged" to offer it to a "politically correct" applicant. It`s what authority do. The advert is merely a legal requirement to attempt to make people believe the position is open to anyone. Probably find the position has already been filled by an applicant that ticks all the right boxes.
