Hi Neil I am on Ranworth Breeze from 17th to 24th of March so I may see you on the rivers.

That will be great Alan, hopefully if we see you at Loddon again we can go for a curry in the Raj.

Sorry, I intended to quote you before I posted above is the above the unit for drinks and mags you designed.

No, the unit I built was an in-between unit. It separated 2 centre line seats and was floor standing. I never really took many pics of the things I've built, because I always thought I'd be in trouble, now however, I think i'l take them for memories sake.

  3. The company i work for won a contract to manufacture a seat deviding console, which combined a mini bar, magazine rack, and a couple of small lockers, one which contained the lifejacket, the other contained a pair of slippers and an eye cover for relaxation and sleeping. I was tasked to finish the mock up, which was sent out to the customer (Sicma seeting, and Emirates) which they wanted changeing. I did all the mods, including suggestions for design and manufacturing modification, and resubmitted it. The customers acceopted it, and i took it through to full production and "first article inspection". It turned out it was the classic "spratt to catch a mackerel" job. It was also the project that saved the company.

I felt a lot of pride in what i achieved, but, after i built the round bars, i got sideways moved because i caught the production manager out lying, which really hit me hard. As such, i was never given a chance to work on any more of the major executive projects again, despite having several section supervisors requesting me to be transfered to their projects.

Needles to say, i lost faith in the company, and although i still work there, i`m counting down the last 3 1/2 years til i retire.

  4. Many thanks for that Pally.

The reason i wanted to post this is because i had just caught up on the thread about "Broad Ambition, the model", and made a comment that i have skills but no dexterity. Well, my skills went in to building the horshoe bar in the pic. I built the fiirst 8 of them for the Emirates 380 fleet. Now they have the mk2 version, which i`ve had no input. I`was also involved in the manufacture of the the chilled bar immediately behind, as well as the sofas which are a bit out of shot. To the right, but out of shot, though you can just see the small cut off at the bottom right of the picture, is a trolley stowage unit with a massive monitor screen above.

Yarmouth Yacht Station doesn’t open until the end of March, but Beccles and Oulton Broad are manned in the mornings.  Most of the pubs will be open, The Lion at Thurne, The Bridge at Acle and The Maltsters at Ranworth will all be serving food.  The hose at Ranworth will be available and there was one at Broads Boating Co at Acle when we were there in November.  Water will be available at Oulton and Beccles, too.

We are up for a long weekend on Norfolk Lady starting Thursday evening 19th March, so may bump into you at some point on Friday somewhere for a chat and catch up.

Hi Malcolm, as you know, we`re moored at Brooms, so there`s every chance. As i said above, we`ll more than likely be going to Loddon for the Saturday night because i`m hoping to meet my brother and sister in law on the Sunday to take them for a cruise back to Oulton for the night, where they live. Then we`ll probably be heading North for a few nights, then back to Loddon again, and Brundall on the Thursday or Friday night.

Looks like a good week for getting through Yarmouth.

Thanks for that Helen. Yes, the tides look spot on for once.  So far, we`ve planned for either Brundall (home mooring) or Loddon on Saturday, then definitely Oulton Broad on Sunday, and then across to the North on Monday, and back south on the Wednesday or Thursday dependent on other things.

  7. I have`nt caught up with this thread for quite a while. I just love those mini planes, they look amazing. To make such intricate and detailed work takes a lot of skill and dexterity, skills i have, a steady hand and dexterity i DON`T.   I envy you to be able to do such fine work. I hope one day, our paths (or should that be rivers?) will cross, and will be able to see the model in the timber?.

  8. Hi all,

Karen and i will be on Lightning for a week from March 14th onwards. We`ve never been afloat so early in the year, so would ask what`s open that early, such as yacht stations, quay rangers , moorings etc. Also, things like water hoses, i know the hose is always on at Loddon, but not places like Reedham and Gt Yarmouth etc. Also, what will the tides be like, as we are going to see Liz (the owner of Ramblers Gallery at Thurne), and would like to take for a run on Lightning.

Any relevant info would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe some of the "Posts" could fall under the "Law of Incitement" futhermore scrutiny and accountability of an organisation is one thing but the constant targeting of an individual within said organisation with accusations that have a basis in personal opinion not fact could be construde as harassment.

"Law of incitement"?, hardly, due to no suggestion or encouragement of taking any form of vandalism by any member of this discussion, I certainly have'nt haven't read of any.

"Constant targeting", well, if the UNELECTED head of a lawful authority continues to endulge or promote activities and systems which are completely bogus, then said head MUST expect ongoing criticism.

  10. One piece of terminology I think should be remembered, and that is "they may not tell an outright lie, but they may also NOT tell the WHOLE truth".

Politicians usually make good use of this system to attract support for something controversial, by hi lighting any benefits, yet hide the pitfalls that also go with it. Remember the Common Market?, we were told it was all about trade, but we're kept in the dark as to what was the real aim. Now come back to current times and consider the Broads being "advertised" as a National Park, it certainly makes me wonder what their ultimate aim is.

Did someone say Packman was a politician...............

I agree if referrimg to a  individual member but I was referring to an outside agency and its representatives.

    Fred

And an agency that every member of this forum, both historic and present, has in some way, via hiring a toll payed boat, or owning outright, funded, so i think ALL of this discussion is very relevant.

  12. Yet another example of a "dishonest" Unelected authority cashing in on the now seriously boring global warming / climate change lie. And guess what, there's absolutely NOTHING we can do about it. Global warming was only ever a scientific theory, NOT fact, which became extremely politically advantageous, and climate change, and its effects has been going on since this planet existed, this time a fact, but again, a politically advantageous fact, which has NEVER been and never CAN be man made.

It's just a shame so many people are so gullable in that they need to believe in some cause, rather than to believe in themselves.

  13. So does this now mean we are within our rights to write to packman and demand the withdrawal of all adverts and signs proclaiming the Broads as a National Park?. Also, to demand that he drop any future claim that the Broads ARE  a National Park, and that he will never do so in the future?. Or do i just have an over zealous aire of optomism?.

  14. Paladin,

I really appreciate your research in this subject, you hi lighted a lot of vitally important information that I would imagine most of us would never know how to find.

It really does look to me like the top brass at Yare Towers will stop at nothing until they get their dream. It's almost like a dictatorship, you can't elect us, but you WILL do what we say and live with it.

It's actually quite frightening to think that our elected Government is allowing this to go on unchecked.

Definitely an excellent example of why the BA MUST be an elected authority, or at least the top brass must be.

I can only report what has been written. The letter states, very clearly, the current government position, which hasn't changed since the rebranding in 2015. On that basis, I believe it. Whether it reflects the intentions of the Broads Authority (or certain people within the Authority) is a totally different matter.

    Hi Paly,

My comment was based on the last bit, which is also referred to in your last sentence. That said, I admire your optomism in believing any authority, as it is my belief that ANY authority will only do what's beneficial for that authority, and never for the benefit of those within its governance.

That letter was dated 26 April 2017 and, in it, she said, "I can confirm that there has been no formal or legal change to the status of the Broads and that rebranding the Broads as a national park has been done solely for marketing purposes."

If you believe that you will believe pigs can fly, and to the moon and back at that.

I'm sorry but isn't this just moaning ? Has anyone reported it to BA ? And more to the point is it actually causing those posting any problem what so ever .

While I appreciate it Christmas and BA is likely closed for the next few days they are open just after before the new year , however I would hold back in reporting it if your not in a position to actually see it if indeed it's happening , as that causes BA to go on a wild goose chase , wasting rangers time when they could be doing other things .

Sorry but it annoys me when folk make an issue of something that's very unlikely to affect them .

Sure untolled boats shouldn't be on BA moorings but it is the season of good will .

If after Christmas you feel strongly about it and have witnessed it then by all means report it .

Other than that have a happy Christmas .

I don`t think it`s moaning, i think people are concerned because these new aged navigators tend to have very scruffy boats which are an eyesore, and some of the occupants can also be (to some) a bit intimidating. Add to that, they hog the staithe so other visitors can`t moor, and have in the past acted aggresively when asked to move up allowing others to moor. They usually leave a load of rubbish behind when they move on.  :default_coat:

as the boats i hire fit under Potter Heigham Bridge, I can normally (except extremely high tides - and then I wouldnt be getting under Potter Heigham) get under the bridges at Great Yarmouth at any tide state, assuming of course I dont mind punching the tide in one direction or the other either to get to Breydon or crossing it, - with the attendant extra fuel use involved.

My own personal preference is to punch against the tide on the Bure, as punching on Breydon, the Yare, and the Waveney is much more difficult. I find going across Breydon from the Yare or Waveney on an ebb then punching up the Bure a better option, the same in reverse, punch the flood down the Bure, then take the flood across Breydon. My reasoning for doing so is you're only punching hard for the first 2-3 miles or so of the lower Bure, but do so on Breydon and the Yare and Waveney, the tides will be hard all the way upriver.

We are quite particular. Preferably a boat with bow thrusters as there is only ever the two of us on board so it just makes arriving and departing the moorings easier and more secure. I can do it without but prefer knowing I’ve got the backup.

But an absolute must for us is an island bed. My other half is 6’4 so any kind of fixed length bed that you can’t hang your feet off doesn’t work for us. This does considerably reduce the number of boats that we can hire. And it is why we are such fans of the ex-Swancraft fleet. Such great boats for two people hiring at a reasonable price. Just such a shame that they’re not based on the South anymore.

Might look at the Broom Captain eventually or the boats WRC are offering but they all come at a price. Plus I like the go anywhere air draft of the bathtubs.

    Hi Jean,

Try looking at Silver line, I think they have an alpha 29 ctr ckpt with an island bed in the fwd cabin. I think it's called Silver Myth or Mystique.

I've checked out a number of the yards on the south D46 and they don't seem to hire out in the winter. I had thought maybe Waveney River Centre would given that Ferry Marina have changed their ways. But no luck. I love the southern rivers and want to get back at some point but can't get a boat that suits us at a price that suits us.

Ah well ... I'm going to keep that Christmas boat hire on my wishlist. Ooops ... did I mention the C Word after 12th night? Where's Jay when I need him. :default_eusa_dance:

RE the boat that suits, what type of boat, there is still a lot of choice from 6 yards.
