Antares_9
I spend nearly a year researching, planning the fit and deciding on the most appropriate autopilot, make the decision to source one at the boat show and what do Raymarine do? They go and announce a new model to be launched at said boat show, that’s what they do. Still if it has no really significant advantages over the current gyro enhanced model I think I will stick with my decision, who knows it may mean some good deals on the “run out†models. senator
Have always been a great follower of the discontiuned bargain, problem I find is that next year they bring out a gadget that will even Iron the dog for you and it plugs straight in to all the models after the one you Brought. pks1702
Be interested to see the new one David but can't imagine it can be a whole lot better than the current model. Still something to be researched; and as you say deal to be had potentially on the 'old' model.
Antares_9
I think you're right Perry, the only thing I can imagine that would sway me is if the new one is NMEA2000 (seatalk 2) compatible so I can plug it in. Obvously the current model will interface with the C series on plain seatalk 2 so even that wouldn't be a huge bonus. :-D

Palmtree
Hi David, I think you are right to keep with your original plan, the older system will have been used and tested by many people. The new system might have extra bits but might not have all the bugs sorted. Ian
Guest Oiler
Hi, I have to agree with Ian. Nowadays it seems to be the norm to sell to the public (at a profit of course) what are essentially development or Beta models and wait for the returns and replace them later, cheaper than using a test lab. Let Joe public do the testing for them for free. If people do not return them with a complaint and throw them away, then they are "quids in". People have got too use to the disposable society I'm afraid. Rgs. Dick
Antares_9
Well, went with the current model (S2 Gyro) and got a really good deal, after looking at it on the Raymarine stand there is not much difference in the new model and they will not be available for a few months anyway. I agree about the oft used Beta testing by paying customers practice used by some suppliers but can't really believe Raymarine would do it with what is essentially a critical on board system. Palmtree
Hi, I am convinced that Raymarine will have tested the unit well, but some times things are used in a way the manufacturer did not expect. At work we had a order for our hose clips to be used for clamping a radio transmitter to a Walrus tusk, (not an application we had tested).
