Hire boats don't usually fly the red rag do they? Or have things changed over the years? T'was a different boat that actually went under Potter Bridge as well I think!
Another observation is that this was likely the days of Watneys Red Barrel and Norwich Bitter so to say "First class beer" is nothing short of an outright fib!

Are they edible? I encounter lots of mushrooms when I wander but don't have the courage to risk a fungal feast! They used to say keep away from any with a "warning" colour but this seemed a tad risky to me.
I'd like an "ology" in mushrooms please!

I have to say that my only encounter with "Elgoods Fine Ales" was a supping nightmare! It was vile and I would rather have supped bog water!
Of course there is always a chance that it has improved!

I'm not sure that its been completely down or completely up! For the last couple of days I get too many jrun server errors to be able to look at the site.

That's quite possible Mirage but more like early 80's after Atlanta took the Norman moulds.
The original Normans were all built to the 6' 10" beam in order to be able to navigate all waterways. Later variations were made in widebeam.

You are considering the wrong mark of the Norman 23 Strow! The one its a chop job of is like the Atlanta with the slight "V" to the raised area forward of the main cabin shape.
I said I've seen this boat before. I do know the odd bit about Normans and there was information given about it on my website forum at some stage. I'm sure I have other photos of her somewhere but can't find them at this time of night!
Quite a lot of clever mods were carried out on Normans!

I've seen that before. Supposedly it was a Norman 23 which someone "lifted the lid" to increase headroom so its a unique one off!
It is the right length and there are a few "Norman" characteristics left.

Two possibilities for me! Either alongside on the main river at Salhouse or Brundall Church moorings!

This is a cracking start to another magnificent literary contribution! Glad to see that you approved of the AF38. Well known to be my favourite style!
Thanks and keep it coming please!

Does that suggest that there might be a visitor mooring for private owners?

It would be "cheating" if I answered this one but Brundall is right of course. Think old victorian hotels and parkland!

Or Bramerton Common maybe?

That particular corner always stays in my mind because I often see Kingfishers on that sticky out bush!
Pure fluke really!

That riverside photo could almost be Norwich Yacht Station if you "blur" your eyes!

I think that may be down Cess Road or is it Lane. They are Marthams sheds with the old boat graveyard at one side!

I think that is one of the bends between Wroxham and Coltishall on the Bure. Not far from Belaugh if I'm not mistaken!

You wouldn't likely meet a chap called Paul on his way somewhere whilst tramping it would you?
Trevor

Not around those moorings just before Loddon Staithe perchance?

Hi Fred! It could be on the River Chet when it was a wee bit wider in places but I also fancy Surlingham Broad!
Trevor

Yup! That's what I spied!

I suspect it may be the "advertising"!

The power point at Hickling has always been a bit of a problem to access. I assume its still in Whispering Reeds yard? I never understood why it was put there! I realise there are no BA defined moorings as such so I can only assume it was purely for the expected electric boat.

There have been many discussions all over the web on all the forums about osmosis. Basic fact! Osmosis never sank a boat! Yes, Freemans seemingly picked up an unfortunate tag of suffering more than most but it is only in the most extreme cases where the very expensive remedial work is required. Given the age of these craft I would challenge anyone to find any marque of craft of a similar age without the slightest trace of osmosis. Look at Mr Truss's final comment, "For a caravan builder a very solid boat"!
Then examine the quality of the interior finish. These are generally very fine boats for their age. Ask Lord Paul!

Try these .....
Pawrtrum
Pozik (easy)
Brunnell
And, of course, Narich or Gnawrich !
A very senior local once told me of "Blah" and "Berksull" but I think he was maybe taking the proverbial!

The worst design ever!

In terms of the boats I have hired over the years I do have one very clear favourite for this title! The boat was "Rapide" from Alphacraft. Looks very smart and sleek but presented us with a whole host of problems. Described as a 4 - 6 berth, the two supposed double cabins are side by side st the rear and are miniscule. The double berths was two single beds that refused to stay together! The inside helm is set way back from the front in the saloon to be almost midships! The outside helm was and still is the most uncomfortable position I have ever experienced. The posture it demanded ensured chronic backache within the first 30 minutes of cruising. I'll not mention the daft seating arrangement around a fixed huge round table or the need for the shiniest silver pole in the middle of the cabin!
To top it all, we had to call out their engineer and his very words were that this is the worst design Alpha ever came up with!
