Thanks for all your replies everyone.
Yesterday I fitted a couple of ball valves right next to the engine so I can shut off if anything untowards happens. I flushed the coil thru (into a bucket for safe disposal of course) both ways and that ran fine. Tried to bleed off with the engine running but there does not seem to be any flow - which sort of back up my thinking that the take offs are at the same point on the engine.
Good point about the soldered joints - these will be replaced!
I will have a hunt around to see if I can find some other ports.
best regards

Hi all
Long shot but does anyone have a diagram of the cooling circuit for a VP TAMD41A?
Since getting the boat we have never been able to generate hot water from the engine. The calorifier is quite new but I had a look at the way the coil is plumbed in and it look like both pipes go to the same side of the thermostat housing. I was expecting so see one of the pipes coming off the water pump so there would be some flow.
Any ideas please:
Thanks

I think it's more up Gav's street than mine - don't think I would fit in very well !!
Not fitting in is exactly what we need Luke! A breath of fresh air would not go ammiss
Anyhow I think Gav would be more suited to the diplomatic corps

We'll vote for you Luke

Hi, picture the scene... girls sitting on the back of the boat in our marina whilst I am (re)polishing. A Herbert woods hire boat comes in and try's to stern moor in the private space next door. As I look across I see the guy who was at the helm standing on the bank with this boat carrering away from him across the Marina with nobody onthe helm. He walks to the end of my pontoon on an attempt to stop the boat just as it crashes into my rib, pushes that tight to the davits, hits the barge on the other side of me and comes to rest on another boat in the corner .He says to me" it's ok I have insurance" I was not best pleased and replied its not ok in I am ashamed to say, rather colourful language. He told ne to watch my language as he had his young grandchildren on board, what! This is the guy that leaves his grandchildren on a boat with no helmsman and to top it all, as I pointed out to him, with no lifejackets on. Any one of the crashes the boat went into today could have easily had the kids off over the back. Eventually he got back on board and without even a " sorry" or stop to see if there was any damage buggered off.
I know we all started somewhere and are not immune to accidents.. But then there's accidents and idiocy!
Or I am just turning into an old git?

Suddenly I think my Rib needs a clean

Mark - Neil obviously has good taste and impeccable manners

Gav, I dont think they are rude, just very miserable. Would you want to be sitting on a riverbank having carted several hundredweight of gear in the hope of catching a small fish that you have to throw back in anyway

As i was doing this, i watched this stunning looking Birchwood coming in to moor, and then i recognised a certain young Wayne (Wayneakp) at the helm. I watched him bring Katacalouse in very nicely indeed.
I think it is really worth repeating that part Neil

Actually looks like a nice trip Paul

Better get some practice in then Wayne, it will boost their confidence (and yours) no end, or is it just the decision to come back for you they would struggle with.

Hiya
I have an inverter and it rarely gets used - if you intend visiting marinas /pubs then hair power I mean shore power is generally available for a modest fee. Even some of the free BA moorings have posts where a £1 card will usually last an ovenight stay.

And is that not what a good business is all about??
Personally I find my iphone the most useful "gadet" i have ever owned - regardless of the hype.
It is indeed sad that this man lost his fight against cancer. He was of course just one of many who pushed (and continue to push) the boundaries of technology to give us the ability to take for granted some of the things we can do today, almost everyday.
Next time we take a digtal photo and send it to someone, post or watch a video online, text your mate, use a sat nav, send an email, or indeed post and communicate on a forum it may be worth a thought how these people have changed the world in such a relatively short time.
Quite an achivement IMHO.
