  1. hi,

been offline for a couple days, may be stating the obvious but ,our engine,s started to overheat when under load,ie @over 3000 rpm ,ours turned out to be blocked weed filters ,you couldn,t see though the glass that they were blocked ,but when i took the tops off they were choker,if the overheat was very quick it could have been a blocked raw water pickup which dropped off when the suction preassure decreased when engine on tickover?,

if you need an expert ,Doug Ashley is your man tel 01493 488000 or 07818040711,before you buy 500 pounds worth of parts,he may be able to pinpoint the problem for a couple of hours work,he,s very approachable and has worked on mercruiser since he was a boy.

    hope you get soeted soon

    cheers trev

  2. hi,

if yours are the d219 ,i,d just check the compresion of each,

the preassure s should be 348-377 psi(2400-2600 kpa)

the max preassure diff between cylinders is 72psi (500kpa)

ps, you don,t have your tappet clearances by any chance as they are same as miine?? :wave,

fittin a hose won,t show which head has gone, but there is a test you can do by sampling the coolant for fuel/oil but i can,t remember what it,s called.i have a check list at home for dealing with overheating mercs on pdf ,will try and dig it out tonight

  3. hi,

i need some help,i need to find out the valve clearances on my engine,s, and the method of checking them, and don,t really want to buy a manual,as these are also very difficult to get hold of,

the engine is a mercruiser d180ac turbo ,it,s a bit different as it has 5 cylinders,

i ve looked in most of the obvious places,

    cheers trev

  4. We also passed and waved to the crew of 'Le Grande Cru' out on the Waveney yesterday, they were heading north towards Breydon, having just past the entrance to Oulton dyke, so may also have had a salty bottom and were in need of a wet wipe lol :lol::lol:

was i in the loo!!! :o sorry i missed you!!

  5. hi,

up to about 3 years ago ,used to sea fish quiete a lot along north norfolk coast, mainly the catch was flat fish, with bass and dog fish, and the ocassional codlin g in winter,my all time favorite catch was a 12ib bass caught on Cromer pier,it was some fight from that height, and we landed it in a drop net,

From the boat i have caught sea trout......and i am not going to tell you the mark!!

  6. Oh dear,

The hot pipe from the top hose should go to the top of the califior,it,s the old saying you can,t push cold water uphill,if the inlet and out let are at the same level ,then ignore this it won,t matter.

don,t take a pipe off a hot engine!!!.

Probably as beieng said just airlocked

    cheers trev

  7. hi Adam,

i have a traker 500 chart plotter on the little ship, if yours is a navman...which i believe it is you are welcome to plug it into my ariel/boat ,as mine,s on a braket ,and try that...that,s assuming yours has an external ariel?,if it hasn,t and has a internal ariel, are you sure it has a clear view of the sky when you turn it on? and when your underway?,don,t ezactly know what you have?

    regards Trev
